The site is small but when we visited it was pretty quiet so no problem.
Overall the site is OK as is the pub, nothing special but OK.
We had two problems though.
1. The water supply comes from a tank which is filled by a natural spring. This means that the supply is limited to what is in the tank until the spring refills it. Not ideal when you turn up in your motorhome needing water.
2. There didn't seem to be a toilet disposal point. There might have been one under a locked cover but we didn't ask. We emptied out at a CCC site in Delamere on the way home instead.
The site and pub are OK

We have a camel trophy landrover with a rooftent, we were visiting the area and passed the pub at about 10pm looking for somewhere to stop, I recognised the pub name from surfing this website in the past.
Although it was late the landlord was very obliging and before long we had set up camp and were enjoying a well earned pint with the very friendly locals. There was entertainment on and the pub served complimentary sandwiches in which we were invited to partake. It is a bit in the middle of nowhere but that's part of the attraction for us, in the morning we looked out of the roof tent across the moors and watched a local shepherd working his dog to move sheep from one field to another. The toilets and showers are more than adequate, we will be using the site again this weekend if all goes to plan.

Stayed here for four nights with a mate (Monday to Friday) at the beginning of September. Being the only people on the campsite we had a brilliant few days away. The weather was very nice and the campsite was in a good location. The toilet block was basic but relatively clean, however I could see this not being sufficient if the campsite was busy.
We used this campsite as a base to travel to Alton towers (about a 45mins drive) and Blackpool (about 1hr 30) as well as local towns of Buxton and Bakewell. The pub was very nice and the darts board and pool table were particularly useful on the one evening that it was wet. Very friendly landlord in the pub.
The pub did not serve food during the week but that was not a problem to us. The nearest supermarket was probably the Tesco in Congleton, about a 15 minute drive away on the A54.
Overall a lovely little campsite, reasonably priced with some great views of the surrounding areas.

We visited as a group of 23 adults and children in tents and caravans and were disappointed.
It's tiny and even on a weekend in September, there were 34 tents and caravans so there's not much space. You aren't allowed to take your car on site but the car park and pub car park simply aren't big enough to cope so there was double parking and problems getting cars in and out.
The rules state no ball games, which our children respected but every other family/group seemed to ignore this rule and there were balls flying everywhere. Our children then decided to move to secluded corner to throw a ball round but got shouted at by owners. Our children played in the so-called beer garden at the back of the toilet block and again got shouted at by the owners for 'wrecking the place'. I should add our children were supervised by an adult at all times as some of them were toddlers.
The rules also state no noise after 11.30pm - to say this isn't enforced would be putting it mildly. At 4.30am we'd had enough. The owners don't come round at 11.30pm to ask people to quieten down and when we complained in the morning, we were told there was nothing they could do about it.
The same loud groups also allowed their dogs to run wild round the site, leaving piles of dog mess around the site. Again when we complained to the owners, they simply said there was nothing they could do about it.
The toilet blocks (portacabin) were were full of grass and mud (no mop and bucket to clean after yourself) and there was no soap for handwashing after going to the toilet and no hand drying facilities. The water supply failed several times during the weekend which meant toilets couldn't flush and you couldn't wash your hands.
The pub food is 'average' - we found a really lovely pub in Rushton with a fantastic children's play area, great food and lovely staff.
The plus point is the scenery is beautiful.

We arrived here and were surprised to find we had the field to ourselves.
The toilet facilities are a bit dilapidated, but were fairly clean. The field itself was in good condition and clean and tidy.
The showers are on a meter that takes £1 & £2 coins, but I noticed that there was loads of credit on them and a good wash only costs about 5p. Take a look before you feed them.
The approach into the field is up a steep slope with gravel that caused my car to lose grip. I had to take a short run at it to get up.
There were a few 'long termers' in the middle car park, but they went to work early and were quiet at night.
There was 1 electric hook up available, which cost £3.50 a night.
We didn't try the pub, food is only Fri - Sunday, but the owner did point us in the right direction to get a meal.
The owner is friendly and helpful and the scenery superb.
There isn't any play equipment for kids, but there was plenty of space for the kids to play football, with the field being empty.
Not sure where the nearest shop is, but we drove a short distance to Macclesfield where there is everything you could need.
We drank the water from the tank, which comes from a borehole, without any upsets.
We would visit again, but wouldn't stay for more than a couple days as we like more facilities for the kids.
The nearby cows mooed all night which certainly made us feel like we were in the country.

Stayed here when working in macclesfield for two weeks,
It's a good little site out in the Derbyshire dales, sat nav will take you to wrong place so I would check directions on this listing
The toilets are adequate for the small site, and the shower rooms are always warm.
The pub has a nice cosy atmosphere and when I was there in November a log fire was lit every day,
Try the mixed grill from the pub its not the cheapest but its like a farmyard on a plate!

We stayed for the August Bank Holiday weekend, the weather wasn't great.
Site was in a great location for views etc.
Shops were absent, but the pub was ok, with entertainment on the Saturday night. Food in pub seemed like pretty good pub grub.
As expected the site was small, but too many tents were allowed to pitch - in our opinion. The toilets/showers are as the other reviews, would be ok with up to say 20 units, but struggled to cope with the number on site, ran out of toilet roll on 2 out of 3 days that I noticed.
Parking was also a problem with the numbers, having to triple park, the field was boggy with the rain and full of tents so no parking next to tent.
Signs posted saying no noise after 11.30, though this wasn't enforced.
Was a little suspicious of drinking water from a tank, but with the numbers on site throughput will have been high, it was fine.
Would have liked hot water available for washing up, the facilities for WU were basic.
The price seemed like a bit of a rip off, but we're probably a little tainted with the weather and over crowding.
We would have liked the site if it wasn't so full, we'll consider going back 'off peak'. Spot was lovely so may return!

Booked this site in advance, even popped up there in advance. In a stunning location, VERY small site at the top of a hill behind The Wild Boar pub. Told the landlord when booking we would be arriving around 19.30. Arrived to find the site packed. The tents were pitched no more than two foot from each other and three deep.

Good site, its a small field behind an old country pub, the staff were friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers were good enough. No shops within walking distance so make sure you stock up, all in all a good weekend though if for nothing more the views around this place were stunning although a bit windy!

Although the pub itself has few redeeming features, on the plus side - and it's a huge, forgive-all-else plus - the camp site is in an unbeatable position, views all round and facilities are, um, ok. As long as you don't mind the occasional rumble of heavy lorries (it's situated yards away from the A54 Macclesfield - Buxton road) and the unpredictable nature of the facilities (will there be toilet paper? Will the hot water be cooler than a lobster pot?), this is an excellent base for exploring the best of the Cheshire countryside.
