We stayed for two nights at this site and had a fab time. It was blowing a gale when we got there and it was freezing. You can see for miles around but for that you have to address the no shelter from the wind factor.
There were sheep in all the fields round us which was great entertainment in itself watching the lambs.
The shower and toilet blocks where clean but cold and I thought the price for a shower a little steep.
The pub was great fun on Saturday night with the singer and all the staff where very friendly.
Dogs were very welcome. The ground was quite boggy after a soaking April but we managed to get on and off. In my will return file.

We stayed here for two nights this Xmas and found it to be one of the friendliest sites we have stayed on.
Our exhaust had fallen off and we had been unable to locate an open garage to have it repaired. On mentioning this fact to Allan in the fantastic bar, he phoned a young man called Dan, who duly arrived half an hour later, and in the dark, checked the fault out.
The following day he sourced the parts for us, and that night repaired it, the young man was a star!.
Allan and Val could not have done any more to ensure our stay was comfortable and trouble free, and we found the facilities to be of a high standard.
We will certainly return here again and would say it is a five star site.

Visited for one night in our camper, two people and a dog on a Saturday night, parked in the carpark as it was icey where the campers park, this wasn't a problem. Didn't use any on site facilities as it was a one night trip and used the camper toilet etc. Spent the night in the pub, owners, staff and locals really nice, had a meal, home made chips were gorgeous, the other half is a veggie, there was a few items for her and the chef went out of her way offering to make up something not on the menu. Pool room in the back for some games of pool, live music on a Saturday, a friendly singer, got busier later when the locals came in who were all friendly. Had our dog in the pub which wasn't a problem, and shes a big old english sheepdog! Wveryone loved her, they fetched her water, told us where the walks were.
Back to the camper about 1am, up at 9 cooking brekky, will definitely return, a really good night out!

Don't let the reviews put you off!
We just came back from this stunning campsite the setting is spectacularly beautiful. A great place because it looks completely in the wilds of no where but is in fact only about 5 miles to petrol and cash machines.
The owners were very friendly to us and spoilt our dog too. We were welcomed at the site and the owner came to see we had settled in ok. We had a meal at the pub which is very dog friendly inside and out. The meal was great home-made food, the cheesecake and the unicorn beer is definitely worth a try.
We went to the nearby reservoir for a walk which was beautiful. Another brilliant place to visit is the nearby ice cream farm about a mile from the site. The gala was on too which was a large event with lots locally going on.
The toilets and showers are clean and basic. £1 for showers but the campsite is very reasonably priced so still works out cheaper than most places.
The site itself has lovely grass, good ground for pegs. It is pretty windy but all the tents we saw did well. There are lots of footpaths for walking and nearby pubs.
If you want a Butlins holiday with a pool, games room and all the mod-cons don't come here. If you like the outdoors and beautiful views it is a good site.
For children you need to bring your own entertainment.
We would definitely come back and stay longer.

We arrived at this site with some apprehension, having read reports of wind and having suffered wind damage to our tent last year.
The site was well maintained and the ground was perfect for pitching where we were. Though there is a slight slope, the tent pegs went in easily and held. Undoubtedly there was a wind, probably a bit higher than on the Cheshire plane but not noticeably so. Anyway, we and the tent survived unharmed.
The toilet/showers were ’old style’ but clean and practical. My only comment would be there is no hot water for washing up and the sink is rather high (not suitable for short people).
The pub was nice with good beer and the owners were very helpful.
Great place to explore the area. We went to the Quarry Bank Mill, Lyme Park and Diddulph Grange and enjoyed them all.
A site I would definitely consider returning to.

Booked this site from a recommendation in a book for a couple of nights stay over Bank Holiday weekend. However I wish I had read the reviews before hand.
On arrival I found the staff unwelcoming. The site itself is sloping and exposed on three sides. The owner told us with his local knowledge that the breeze would blow over. It did, all day and all night.
The recommendation I read suggests there is a sheltered part of the site under trees, well there is but this was taken up by what appear to be permanently sited caravans.
Toilet facilities were poor, there is one toilet for men which meant some queueing in the morning. Dish wash facilities are outside sink with cold water. Showers additional £1.
We visited the pub in the evening and found it very uncomfortable with most welcome aspect being other campers we chatted to. The owners treat it as their home and therefore it makes for negative atmosphere as you are made to feel like an intrusion.
Don't try to find using Satnav it sends you the wrong way

We are in a small bike club (6 members on this particular trip) and decided to go camping to a local(ish) site to give the younger inexperienced members a taste of rally life and to get used to camping together.
We were made to feel like outsiders, mainly by the owners of the pub. Upon booking we were “sold” the site on the basis that they have entertainment and the particular weekend we were there they had a rock night. However, there was a 60th birthday party instead and we felt like we had gate crashed the party. There was one lovely regular who made us feel welcome and talked to us and a few of the locals eventually made the effort too, as did the owners but only towards the end of the night when they’d all had a few too many drinks.
The camping field is on a slight slope and although it didn’t rain when we went, it was still quite muddy from the previous weeks rain. However, the problem wasn’t the mud etc but the wind and exposure – which apparently can be like that all year round. Thankfully our tents were brilliant and stood up to the conditions.
Facilities are very basic and limited. Toilets and wash basins were functional although there were no paper towels to dry your hands even though there were dispensers on the wall. There was one shower per sex which we didn’t use but were aware that they were on a meter and there was one washing up sink outside with no hot water or shelter. At no time did we see anyone clean the toilets, proved by the fact that there was fungus growing on the floor inside the ladies.

We camped at this site overnight on a Monday. It was difficult to find as the satnav took us to the postcode which was a farm some half a mile from the site but fortunately we were able to get directions from a friendly farmer.
Upon arrival we were shown to the hardstanding camping area, this was on steeply sloping ground which was unsuitable for our motorhome and as the gates to the camping field were locked the owner offered us a pitch in the level pub carpark.
The facilities were basic but clean; 2 toilets and 1 shower for men and the same for women, however the showers cost £1 and the doors did not lock. The dish-washing point was a single outside sink with cold water only from a hosepipe!
The surrounding area was beautiful though and there were several footpaths close to the site from which to go walking.
The site was very quiet with only 2 other tents and a handful of what looked like permanent caravans on the hardstanding area which were occupied mainly by construction workers who arrived around 5pm and left early the next day in their work vans.
Overall we wouldn't recommend the site for longer than a night or two due to the limited facilities. Oh - and the pub only serves food Friday Saturday and Sunday!

Just had one night at this little gem of a campsite. The views are wonderful and the pub at the front is so friendly. Saturday night they have entertainment and everyone joins in the fun. Great spot, will definitely go again. Facilities are good and the owners leave you to enjoy yourselves. Just read someone elses review and forgot they did come round with free sandwiches in the pub later on, marvellous

Wanted to go camping for one night for my birthday, and had a fantastic time.
The owner was great, Really happy and welcoming, he was completely relaxed didn't bother us all night, apart from walking round every now and then to check we where ok. Loved the view when we woke up in the morning all hills for miles.
If your looking for a good, cheapy friendly place then this is it.
