Very laid back site. We arrived at 1pm. Reception closed, notice on board telling us to find a pitch and sign in in the morning. The pitches are all hard standing and fully serviced, but the ground underneath is soft with ruts and holes under the gravel and we had a lot of trouble leveling the caravan. By the time we left the caravan had in fact sunk a little.
The toilets, laundry and food preparation areas are kept clean. The showers are in small wet rooms, however I found them a bit on the chilly side and the shower was not hot enough to tempt me a second time. Thank goodness for on board facilities!
The site is beautifully laid out with a lake in the field at the top of the hill. There are grass pitches which are not open until later in the year. They have beautiful views and all day sunshine, but I would imagine suffer a buffeting from the wind. There is plenty of bird life around, including a flock of Guinea Fowl, and we had daily visits from ducks and Moorhens.
Didn't try and restaurant as the prices looked a little high. It is a shame they don't offer either breakfast or afternoon teas.
St. Ives is a lovely little town with a market on Monday and Friday and the park and ride into Cambridge is well worth the money.
Met two of the 'summer' wardens who were setting up their caravan ready for Easter. They were lovely and I'm sure will make everyone very welcome and as we left work was beginning to get the site into shape for the season.

We stayed here for 4 nights towards the end of October and chose this site as it was in the area we wanted and, while a bit remote, had an on-site restaurant.
Booking was easy and the lady was very pleasant, as she was when we arrived on site. We had choice of pitches and were given an information sheet which indicated Tapas was being served in the bar on certain nights. From this we determined that the restaurant was not going to be open during our stay. This was not indicated to us on either booking or arrival - a major disappointment as far as we were concerned. The golf club down the road does meals but we were unable to get in as they were fully booked. We had a surprisingly good meal at the Mad Cat down in Pidley at a very reasonable price and a Chinese takeaway from Somersham.
Other than that she site facilities are excellent with three shower/toilet/wash basin cubicles in each of the mens and ladies plus toilet cubicles. The pitches are a rarity being large and fully serviced with electricity, water and grey waste.
Overall a nice quiet site with good facilities but, remember to confirm the availability of on-site food!

What a lovely site! First visit. Left it a bit late booking for August bank holiday, but found room for our caravan and our friend's tent at Stroud Hill. They said we would be on the terrace, but we had not been before and did not know that the terrace is quite high and set away from the loos etc (you don't really get a sense of perspective from the website pics). I mentioned that our friends had mobility issues at the time of booking, and left it at that. However, two weeks or so before we we due to visit Stroud Hill, the owner range me to say they had a serviced pitched available in the main caravan area with grass behind it for the tent (near the bridge to the dog walk - which still didn't mean much to be honest), and would we like that? It was a lot nearer the loos, so I said 'yes please, thank you for calling me'. Customer service - how nice for someone to take the initiative and actually think in advance about us!
We eventually arrived and the pitch had been coned off for us so no-one else would take it by accident. It was lovely and the grass area behind was huge. The whole site is beautifully looked after, and the loos and 3 showers (with loo, basin and wet room with plenty of room to dress in each) were spotless. I'd booked a meal in the restaurant for the first night as we were able to take the dog in with us, and the food and service were fantastic. (It's a bit surreal to come from the restaurant into the loos though, and hear someone showering:) We also ate at the Mad Cat one night which was very nice. Fab dog walks around the site, which has golf courses all around it. Loads of birds too. We asked about disabled car parking in Ely and were given a map with hand-drawn arrows for the best parking as it was market day. Also visited St. Ives, which is a lovely little town. Nice little shop on site too for the basics. Can't fault this site, and would certainly go again. Thank you, all at Stroud Hill!

First visit to this site but not the last.
The site is laid out well with hardstanding pitches at the bottom of the hill and grass pitches at the top all serviced with E/h, water and waste desposal, chemical desposal is by the main entrance as is rubbish/recycling. The T/shower blocks are kept very clean, showers more like a wet room lots of space with own sink and toilet, each has a large squeeze to dry the floor, a plastic chair would be a good addition to help when getting dressed.
The shop on site is limited to basic items. The resuarant/bar serves very very good food (almost fine dining), a meal for two came to £70 including drinks which we thought was not bad for the quality of the food, a 3 course Sunday lunch including drinks came to £40 but worth every penny.
Restaurant open Wed-Sat + Sunday lunch.
Located ideally to go and explore either by car or foot, as weather not good we used the car, foot paths to wet and muddy due to very heavey rain. St Ives well worth a visit as are some of the local villages.
Almost forgot if you enjoy fishing there is a well stocked lake at the top of the hill.
Not to forget the very helpful and friendly wardens, thanks for all your help during our 5 day stay.
We will be coming back.

All the reviews are right a lovely site. Lovely helpful wardens. There was a slight muddle over our booking but it worked in our favour as we ended up on the grass on top of the hill with ehu. Will ask for that when we stay again. Facilities are stunning. The only thing to improve them would be a chair in the shower to help when getting dressed. We didn't get to eat in the barn restaurant so we will save that for next time. Great places to visit like Wicken Fen & get a Park & Ride from St Ives to get into Cambridge what a lovely town.

Needed a break from the 'rat race' so booked Stroud Hill Park at the last minute.
We followed the signs for the site and ended up going down a single track road and thought, 'Oh dear, what have we done'. But on entry to the site it is wonderful!
All hard standings are at the lower end of the site and the grassed area is at the top. The reception, toilet block, pot wash, laundry facilities, bar and split-level restaurant are in the timbered complex next to the entrance.
Our pitch was directly opposite the toilet block door; ideal for the good lady as she has various disabilities and obtained a key to the disabled toilet/shower (which she says is excellent.
The men's toilet has 4 urinals, two toilets and 4 hand basins. The 3 showers are a wet cubical with toilet and corner hand basin. Each one is provided with a squeegee for pushing the water into the drain. The control for the shower is a proximity sensor - no temperature variation or flow control! Beware of bending over when drying one's self and one's backside is close to the sensor! Yes, one gets wet again!
We booked for Sunday lunch and were very pleased with the food and service. A two course meal for two including a huge bottle of lager (660ml) for just £40. Excellent value we think.
In the lower restaurant and bar area dogs are allowed which saves them being shut in the caravan or motorhome. Also, there is a type of dog walk. It is a mown strip of grass just under the top edge of the grassed pitches. However, there are no signs to indicate this and there is no dog pooh bin anywhere on site. The main bin/skip is at the site entrance.
Very helpful wardens and restaurant staff.
Would we go there again? Of course we intend to. There is no reason not to.

First visit to this lovely site. Also first time to an adult only site. Staff very helpful. The toilet/showers were very clean as was the rest of the site. My husband loved the fishing lake and was pleased that he caught plenty of fish. Only shame the bar is not open all week but we will return to this site.

Hi, Just returned from a 4 night stay at this adults only site. Extremely peaceful and we struck very lucky with the weather. All pitches are fully serviced and mainly level - we used our Milenco leveller just to ensure shower tray drainage.
The site is very well maintained and the facilities block is clean, warm and well lit. We didn't use the on site restaurant as it was not open Monday to Thursday - menu looked tempting though.
Site is 0. 75 miles down a lane from village but there are footpaths to shorten trip to local pub for grub - Mad Cat Inn.
There is an excellent Park and Ride system from nearby St Ives to Cambridge. We also visited Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen Nature Reserve.
Overall, a very pleasant break. Would recommend.

This was our first outing in our caravan. This was a great site and we were made most welcome on arrival. The site is well laid out and the hardstandings are all excellent, with most being flat. All have access to their own water, drainage and electric.
The facilities block was kept clean at all times and was excellent.
We will certainly return in the future.

We've just returned from Stroud Hill Park after spending the August bank holiday weekend there.
We initially found this site through Tranquil Touring Parks but discovered it also offered grass pitches for tents.
The site is well located - it's no more than half an hour to most of the major tourist attractions of the area, especially Cambridge.
It's a very pretty site with a lovely large timber framed building in the centre which houses the restaurant and bar, the reception, a shop and the toilets and showers.
The grass pitches for tents are at the top of the site and the tent field has it's own water supply. The camping field overlooks the fishing lake and was flat, well kept and pleasantly stone and tree root free which made pitching nice and easy.
The toilets and showers are excellent. The showers are wet rooms which contain both a toilet and a sink as well as the shower and there is plenty of space to leave your clothes by the door so they don't get wet. Everything was always immaculately clean and well stocked.
There is also a washing area which houses a washing machine, tumble drier and an iron with ironing board. Use of the washer or drier is £2 and based on an honesty system. There is also a food and vegetable preparation area which was always clean and very well looked after.
We didn't make use of the bar and restaurant as there were far too many interesting pubs to visit in the local area. Two worth visiting are the King of the Belgians in Huntingdon and the Abbot's Elm in Abbots Ripton. The latter is quite expensive but has amazing food.
Over all, we had a great time visiting Cambridge and wandering around the footpaths of the Fens and were always pleased to return to such a well organised, quiet and clean site with excellent facilities.
