Returned from our visit to Stroud Hill Park in Pidley and it was lovely.
Toilets great clean & warm at all times.
Great fishing lake for the husband relaxing site great for just sitting out and enjoying the sun . Lots of great walks across the fens.
All the staff from Julie and James who look after the park to the chefs and waitress's in the beautiful restaurant which was a lovely surprise,
Yes it more expensive than other sites but you really do get what you pay for - just hope that on my travels I get to find more hidden treasures like this .

Nice site although very expensive.
Good toilet/showers but really need more showers for size of site. Be aware that if you are a tent with out electric the field is some distance from the toilets and its a very steep hill to climb on the way back.
Nice restaurant especially for Sunday lunch although again not cheap!
Staff very helpful.

Recently returned from a few nights at Stroud Hill and luckily just missed the rain. A few pitches were flooded for a day or two so some thought needs to go in to ensuring this shouldn't happen - perhaps more planting to soak up the rain?
The loos are lovely, but only 3 showers and had to wait once or twice. The loos are also shared by the restaurant users, a bit disconcerting when you are bundled up in a towel and a diner comes in to use the facilities. I do think that another toilet/shower/wash-up block should be built for top field. It is a long way up and down the hill for tent campers and users of the top grass pitches. Also there are only 3 bins for the whole site near the entrance, again more would be beneficial around the site as they were very often full and smelly.
The lake is lovely and well stocked and there are some nice walks around. About a 20 minute walk through the fields to the local pub where you can get a basic meal. The restaurant on site is very good and I don't think it is too pricey, about £50 for two including a couple of drinks. It is nice to be able to stay somewhere and not have far too go for a good meal.
We will definitely return and look forward to it.

We stayed for a week. Lovely site and good fishing. Toilets were very good too. Had the misfortune of pitching our caravan in one of 3 pitches which are prone to flooding we were not told about, so our awning and everything in it was under 3 inches of water which stayed for 3 days no help from staff at all just told we could move. Also awful smell coming from drains.
Nice dog walking area as well.

Superb loo block and very quiet and that's about the only positives we have. The site was nearly empty and those folks who remained were not at all happy. There was quite simply a dreadful smell emanating either from their drains or the stinking festering ditch at the back of the pitches. If you sat in the restaurant, the smell was there as well. Quite awful. Some of the bottom pitches flooded and really should not be used. Other pitches were sloping. The restaurant was quite pricey eg ploughmans at lunchtime was £6.75. We didn't eat there but the food is apparently very good.

We stayed at Stroud hill park for the weekend a few weeks ago. I felt that it was the best campsite I have visited so far for various reasons:
1) The staff were very warm and welcoming
2) Had a lovely meal at the restaurant, everything was fresh and homemade. The food is a little more than you would normally pay but you do get what you pay for
3) The toilets and showers were incredibly clean and I liked the idea of a wet room
4) The area is very nice, we visited Ely and walked along the river - a lovely city. There is a spar that is a short drive away that was well stocked
5) It was so peaceful and our tent was right next to the fishing lake so a lovely location
The only minor criticism that I have is that perhaps the site would benefit from a toilet block in the top field where we camped, it is a bit of a walk to the toilet block, particularly when it's the middle of the night! Despite this we are returning next week with my parents and I would definitely recomment this site.

We will soon be returning to an old favourite. Stroud hill park. Due to personal poor health we have not back but when we returned to touringthen this site was the first one we wanted to go to. Pitches, facillities and owners all present in a positive light. Making you want to go back again and again.

We stayed here for 2 nights camping but only ended up staying 1 night due to the weather - raining and extremely windy plus the campers next to us were heavy snorers so all in all not an enjoyable stay for us. Seems like this site is ideal if you have a caravan or motor home but not for campers as the camping field is at the top of a hill and is a little bit isolated. As the camping field has no shelter it is very windy.
To get to the toilet block it was a long walk and down a steep hill. However the toilets facilities were extremely good - very clean and modern. The washing up area was also very good.
We didn't eat in the onsite restaurant as it was very, very expensive however looked very clean, modern and inviting.
Overall, I think this would be a good pit-stop for campers and we would return one day when it's less windy. It was also excellent that is was adults only but beware they do allow dogs which it seemed like everyone had one.

This was our second visit to the site.
This site realy has to be seen to be believed.
We did read a previous review that gave the opinion that campers were now an annoyance to the owners, now that they had been given various awards, for both the restaurant and the campsite.
We DID NOT find this in any way, in fact the owners were extremely helpful and put themselves out to make sure each visitor was made welcome.
The local pub was a 10 minute walk away, good home cooked food and good beer and likewise very welcoming to visitors.
I can whole heartedly recommend this site 100%.

Further to my previous review of May 2006, this visit could not have been more different, what a disappointment.
We arrived in the dark and were told to walk up the site to see what pitches were left - last time the owners knew exactly who was on which pitch and which ones were free. My major moan is that we drove a considerable distance to this site because of the restaurant facility. When we went to book a table on the Saturday morning we were told the restaurant was fully booked and had been for some time. We had not been advised of this a few days earlier when we booked - however we had been invited to join the Wine & Tapas afternoon at an extortionate cost.
Speaking to other campers all were in agreement that when the site was new, campers were welcomed with open arms. It appears that now the owners have made their mark with the locals, us campers are the poor relations and quite honestly are treated more like an inconvenience.
