Back again. Since last visit, all toilet blocks have been renovated. The disabled in the main block, mentioned in a previous review, has had a completely new facia and door fitted. The famous or infamous 'old block' has had new fittings throughout, and a paint job which owes some allegiance to Monet and his garden, all very picturesque. Have it on good information, that steps have been taken to alleviate the odours from the sceptic tank in high summer.
During visit, weather was not good, and a lot of rain meant some waterlogged pitches, motorhomes beware of what looks flat also collects water and can be trouble in the morning, although Michel the gardener is an expert at recovery.
Wifi free at the cafe, although the cafe was not in service as such, this may have been due to early season, time will tell.
Restaurant food was good, and service up to scratch even when pressed with a couple of CC and C&CC rallies present. Prices are commensurate with local cafes, and quality is if anything improving (compliments to Freddo the chef)
Music night was not on, again perhaps early season, but anyone who has the urge to perform would be more than welcomed.
Pool temp is still low, which is a pity, cos the pool is great, but it does need some very warm weather to make it attractive.
Big word of praise for Nicole on reception who goes a mile beyond to help when asked.
Otherwise mixture as before. Lovely site, great area for a pleasant holiday, pity about the weather.

This site was an overnighter for us, what a shame we could have stayed here a week.
The area is lovely and so is the site, Nicole helped us book and was there to welcome us plus served in the bar, which is set in the châteaux.
Lots to do pool looked good as did the lake play park and mini animals for the kids to see.
Shop was friendly and had all you could need.
Be careful trying to find it from Pont L'evec as its tricky.
A wonderful site and we will be back for longer.
Only one hint the water needs to go up a few degrees it was not hot showers just warm, clean though !

Arrived Sunday afternoon, got to choose were we pitched, chose a lovely spot near the lake. All staff extremely helpful and friendly. Tried the restaurant one night, again very friendly, food was very good value, steaks were delicious with a choose of sauces. Some good walks nearby, ask for map at reception. Nearby town of pont l'evéque is very picturesque with some really good butchers and bread shops also a medium size intermarche.
For days out try,
Cider farm visit organised by site
Caen:castle, abbey aux hommes( resting place of william the conqueror).
Bayueax: home of the tapestry
The D'day beaches and pegasus bridge.
We will be back next year

We arrived at Le Brevedent after a 4hr journey from the Loire Valley only to be ignored by the staff on duty. We finally got to speak with someone who told us that everyone was on lunch and that we would need to come back later. A guy gave us a brochure and quickly scribbled on the pitch number and marked others that we might want to consider. We had booked a lake side pitch some 10 months in advance and I could not believe the size of it when we arrived. The only way we could have got our caravan on it was if the caravan had been banana shaped through the tree in the middle. We walked round the lake to consider the other pitches and there where either water logged or had a car parked on them, with tyre ruts all over them.
There were two pitches on the lake that had not been marked off and we decided that we would look at them. The one in the corner would have been adequate, but we were told it was not available. The one next to it, which was available, would have fitted our caravan on but the awning would have literally been on the edge of the lake and our waste and water hog would have been in the road.
We looked at the other pitches available and all of them were on top of your neighbour. Normandy had suffered a lot of rain before our arrival and everyone was walking about in wellington boots and the toilets and showers were covered in mud through this. The vast majority of people on the site were English and we only counted three French vehicles on the site. This site had been fully paid for in advance and both my wife and I decided that to stay on this site would spoil what had been a beautiful holiday and we decided to immediately move on. We explained our reasons to the staff who were very non receptive. This was the start of our 5th week in France and we had stayed on municipal sites for half the price with better facilities and staff on offer.
Would I recommend this site – No, too many British, a poor reception and facilities. The site looked jaded and the chateau looked in need of repair. I had booked this site for the fishing but the lake was very shallow and a lot smaller than portrayed in the brochure.

This is our fourth holiday at Le Brevedent and we will definitely be returning next year. The site is a mix of approximately 75% young families staying for their holiday and 25% people using it as an overnight stopover. The site is ideal for families with young children up to around 10 or 12 years old. After this age they will be wanting better facilities and entertainment which isn't what Le Brevedent is about. It is a quiet, friendly campsite where you will soon make friends and feel totally safe letting your children out of your site playing. The pitches are all open and so it encourages the friendly feel to place. You wont see people erecting lots of windbreaks to shield them away from their neighbours. If you want to be grumpy and hidden away from people then don't go to this site.
The pitches are generally all of a good size. I have seen reviews complaining about the small pitches, but we haven't seen any of these. Even if you thought your pitch was too small I know that Raphael would bend over backwards to move you to a more suitable pitch.
There are three toilet/shower blocks. Two of them are modern and are perfect for young families as they have family shower/bathrooms. The third toilet block is clearly dated, but I understand that it is being replaced for next year.
The outdoor swimming pools are both new and again are perfect for young families.
The restaurant serves good food, although when we were there we had some niggling issues with bad service.
There are ducks and chickens roaming freely about the site and they even have a mini guinea pig farm.
Raphael organises a music night once a week and so any amateur musicians are encouraged to join in. This is the only night of the week when there is any noise and even this is finished by about 10. 00 latest. The rest of the nights there is simply an intimate bar in the main house.
The local area is beautiful. The countryside and architecture is the best in France. The local village is only 3minutes drive away and is perfect for coffees, newspapers, bread etc. Slightly further away is Cormeilles which is a bigger town with every shop you will need. Other places you have to visit are the Zoo (which is only 10minutes away and is brilliant compared to the sometimes tiny, cruel English zoos). Honfleur is a beautiful town/harbour and Trouville is perfect for spending days on he beach (both are about 20minutes away)
All in all I can't recommend this site highly enough. The fact that so many people return there year after year says it all.

Been many times to this site. Interesting development this year was number of tents vs caravans. Maybe due to credit squeeze or publicity from Cool Camping. Result, combined with mixed weather, and a lot of rain, was a lot of muddy pitches, and toilet blocks under more stress than when there are caravans with own facilities. Consequence, probably more than usual negative reports. Toilets are showing their age, and a bit too much outstanding maintenance required. Size of pitches means tents can only go in same place as last occupant, therefore no grass. Cess pit unfortunately in high season is still very whiffy, and pity the campers adjacent.
So not the classic 4/5 star site, but if you like beautiful surroundings in a rural environment, and a friendly communal atmosphere. A mixed climate with often some warm sunshine, and a bit of rain. Loads to see and do in the vicinity. Mega shopping within 12 kms. Beaches 20 mins. The chance to meet and make friends with a whole bunch of like minded campers, (who essentially are a bit easy going), and preferrably have a liking of music, then this may be just the site for you.
Oh and re the pool, it is great, the water temp can't be that bad, cos we were in every day, but in high season strangely, it is full of kids enjoying themselves.

Oh dear, my beloved Le Brevedent, I can't believe people are so picky! Just returned from our 5th visit and rebooked for next year the day we arrived. Meeting up with other couples/families who return like us year after year. Agree, the toilets need some refurbishment unless you walk up to the new block. Rafael and staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Yes some pitches are small, as we discovered on our first visit; but a quick word with Rafael before pitching up and he had found us a bigger one. We often see people walking around looking at the pitches on offer before they decide. Fresh bread and croissants delivered every day are to to die for; basics in the shop but the supermarkets in Lisieux and Pont L'Eveque are close by. This is France so yes, reception does close for lunch as does every thing else in France. Have never had any problem with noise at night, by 11pm the place is in silence apart from the owl hooting. Fishing is either good or bad ie you catch something or you don't! The lake is very muddy and needs a little bit of TLC. Have used the restaurant a few times, the staff again are friendly and efficient and most speak some english; the food isn't Michelin but edible. Lots of historical things to see, especially if you are interested in WWII and the D Day landings.

Just got back from this site after spending 5 weeks in France travelling the west coast and thought it would be nice to have the last 3 nights at 'le brevedant' before coming home on the tunnel. On arrival I was shown to my pitch by the lake over looked by mobil homes on a hill. It rained heavily and flooded the pitch. After setting up I took a look round. All the pitches are small and so close to each other. Lake side pitches were the best but forget it if you've got a big caravan. The toilet blocks were dated. The swimming pool was cold and not very big. The whole site was full and was pushed to its limits. Kids club was like a 'free for all'. And there was toys and books and toy house just all over the place in the front garden by the bar. (not like the brochure shows you). It was so noisy at night with being so close to each other. My kids are 10/12/and4 and they pitched a couple next to us on the last night who insisted on talking (very loud) till half 1. We just didn't get much sleep any night.

We stayed for one night in July 2011 in our camper van on the way to the ferry from Caen back to Portsmouth.
It was close enough to the port that we didn’t need to rush in the morning. Actually, it was a much better site than “just” a ferry port stopover. We were provided, on arrival, with a sheet of local walks. We managed to do one of them and if we had been staying would certainly have worked our way through more. The countryside was beautiful. That was just one example of the fantastic attention to customer service during our stay.
The on-site restaurant was superb, we really enjoyed our meal there and it was a brilliant end to our holiday. The staff in the restaurant were English but the food was French, and excellent. It was also very reasonably priced.
The toilet block nearest to where we pitched was outdated but there are newer ones around. We chose our own pitch – if you do the same, bear in mind which toilet block you are going to be using from that pitch. There is a lovely lake at the bottom of the site – we’d have tried to find a pitch near there if we’d been staying longer.
There’s also an on-site shop with groceries that does bread and pastries in the morning.
The pitches are well-groomed. I have seen it suggested that the pitches are all sloping. Ours was level and as far as I could see, as many are level as are not (and sloping ones are not steep).

Spent a week on this site with our Conway Countryman.
A smallish site but with restaurant, cafe and nice play facilities. Very helpful staff. Shop for basics bread delivered every morning. Chickens and ducks roam freely. We had nice pitch between lake and swimming pool (recently refurbished) Shower blocks are basic but clean. This site is well placed for visiting Normandy beaches, Bayeaux etc. Interesting talk about history of chateau on Sunday night. We had an excellent stay and would return. Good for couples and families with young children.
