We visited 3 sites this summer - this is a review 3 of 3
This was the 3rd site we visited on our final leg of our trip back home to Le Havre (about 45 mins away) - The site was really easy to find with sat nav via the postcode
We drove through a beautiful village to get to the site which so gorgeous with little bistros, tabacs, church etc.We were instantly happy we chose this site.
The site didn't have a security barrier but we felt immediately as ease and that the site was secure - this is really important to us as we have 2 small children but we let the kids roam here.
The reception area was well manned and most of the staff were either English (Students) or spoke really good English which surprised us. The campers were mainly English people and so this gave it that ever so slightly 'Butlins' feel (really, ever so slightly!) but then you looked around at this amazing campsite, the lake, the Châteaux and the orchards, and the woods and all was forgiven.!
Reception had lots of information about the surrounding areas and they were more than helpful and even took us to our pitch. The shop froze your ice packs for free in the freezer and it sold basic items such as fresh bread, milk, wine, food, washing powder etc. Which was nice not to have to drive to the supermarket each day if you didn't want to go out. It has 1 washing machine and 1 dryer and a few washing up sinks, 2 telephone booths, cafe, bar etc.
Quick mention of the 2 shower toilet blocks. The new blocks are lovely, bright and modern with family shower cubicles.Even tiny baby baths! the older block was a bit old fashioned but did the job - walk to the new block if you want a bit of luxury - this is camping!
The pitches are individually marked with plot numbers - you pitched either around the lake, the châteaux or in the Orchard area. It was jam packed as it is peak time (for summer holidays I suppose) but we were really lucky with out pitch as we are on the edge , almost near the lake and so had only 1 neighbour behind us and a little bridge with the well/ waterfall infront - suppose we were lucky, but we did wondered if we had been given another pitch would we have felt a little squashed??!
However
We had THE best time here and felt that it was a perfect end to our holiday - the site, although it is really busy and active was really relaxed and the kids had the best time - I would say that this is definitely for families and had 2 swimming pools, ping pong tables, 2 great parks, canoeing round the lake for 4 Euros, a play area with mini play houses, trucks, dolls prams and a small kids club for a few hours a day. The site was quiet at night and everyone seemed tucked up in bed before midnight.
We said we would 100% stay here again , maybe 2-3 days on our way home to Le Havre. It is a really nice campsite which, if you have children, you won't be disappointed.

A very pleasant site with lots of things to do, a large lake with boats to use, a nice pool, tennis, table tennis, mini golf and volly ball. The restraunt is very good with a good choice and reasonably priced. The toilets and showers let it down, one block is ok but you have to queue, the other block you can get in without waiting but is not very clean and is like something out of the 1960's. Would stay again if we knew the toilets had been brought up to date. A very nice village a 10 min drive away its just like the setting for Hello Hello

Others have covered the various points about the site, facilities and shop very well, so not much to report on that except to say that there is a marked difference between the older and newer toilet blocks. Go for the new ones if you require luxuries such as full liquid soap containers and paper towels, and showers where you can adjust the temperature easily.
Electricity is via 3-pin French sockets, but the site has adaptors for standard UK leads for a deposit of 10 euros. Actually, they didn't ask us for a deposit, nor did they want payment when we arrived - we must have looked honest!
The shop is very, very expensive - a basic range of things at prices 3-4 times what you would pay in a supermarket. However, the nearest supermarket is several miles away, so you have to weigh up high prices against the cost of fuel to get you to one and the fact that you'd probably end up filling a trolley and spending far more money. Bring a supply of drinks and food with you and try to justify buying ice creams at 2 to 3 euros each. Having said that, the pains au chocolat are divine, and almost worth 1 euro and hundreds of calories each!
The French were an ethnic minority! There were mainly British and Dutch visitors. Don't worry if you can't speak French; we hardly needed it.
We had a lovely pitch right by the lake, so I was able to fish ten feet from the tent door. A note for anglers: if you're used to overstocked waters where you bang fish out all day, you're in for a shock. I saw seven fish caught in four days, and I caught five of them, all carp between three and five pounds (aren't I clever??!). They are very shy biters, hardly moving a bite indicator before letting go of the bait and swirling off in a great cloud of mud, and I eventually found the best method was this: cast out your leger 5-20 yards and tighten up the line, using no bite indicator. Slacken off the clutch a lot. I forgot to do that once, and a fish snapped 8lb line before I even picked the rod up. These are wildies: long, lean, beautiful fish built for acceleration, not the ubiquitous fish-farm-bred dumpy creatures you can give swimming lessons to. Either hold the rod ALL the time or tie it to something strong, or you'll lose it when the fish feel the resistance, hook themselves and head for the far bank at Formula 1 speeds! I used a bungie strap between the reel and a strong tent peg, but the scientific amongst us could probably use a much more refined solution.
All in all, a smallish, friendly site in a beautiful setting. We didn't stir from the site - we were quite a happy to stay and relax there. Just one omission is a games room for when it's wet. The outdoor games/activity facilities are fine, but we had torrential rain a few times to make up for the blistering heat of the first couple of days. This was our first foray in a tent for 20 years. We've used a caravan for many years in the UK, but for coming to France it was cheaper to buy a reasonable tent than to pay the extra for the caravan on the ferry.
We'll be back soon, I hope.

Only stayed one night en route for Caen next day. Had choice of pitch from about 8 which was good. Some of the pitches looked rather small, these seemed to be mainly Eurocamp pitches, with no room for car on them. Pool small and closed early considering the hot weather(7pm). Older wash block rather run down but 2 others were good with large cubicles including wash basin and shower. Rather unfriendly staff at restaurant when ordering frites, other staff helpful. 2 good playground areas and lovely pitches around the lake. In high season would think the pool would be crowded. Area around very pretty, lovely villages for a wander round. After Gorges de Chambon (another Castels and Camping site) it felt less welcoming and more cramped, but pleasant enough .

What can I say, what a lovely campsite! This was our first experience of camping in France, the first time we'd taken the caravan.
Got to the campsite at midnight, Raphael the grandson of the lady who owns the site helped us park up temporarily near the hunting lodge and then rejoined his buddies for a beer. Needless to say, once the kids were settled in we joined him and his buddies for a beer!
Next morning, we were directed to our pitch right next to the fishing lake, we were a little concerned that it was a bit boggy (they had been deluged in the same way as most of Southern Britain). No problem, sand was laid down.
And.Relax!
Beautiful setting next to the lake with a bank of trees in the background, 17th century hunting lodge as the focus of the site, ablutions nice and clean and tidy, small shop on site. A rural idyll.
Freshly baked croissants purchased for breakfast, freshly baked baguette with camembert and vin rouge for lunch, fishing rod deployed, both kids off with instantly made friends, this felt like paradise!
The site has a restaurant which is reasonably priced and by all accounts very nice (we didn't actually get a chance to try it). Nearest supermarket I found was in Cormeilles, a pretty little market town about 4 or 5 miles away.
Worth a drive through the countryside to see very picturesque and typically Norman half timbered properties, Blangy-le-Chateau is a nice little village just down the road. Only downside is that the roads round and about didn't really lend themselves to cycling (especially with smallish kids)
Barbecues with friends we made on site were a highlight for us, sweet fests with the friends they made on site (in their specially constructed den) were the highlight for our boys.
I picked this site because I thought it would be a good base to go to Monet's garden, Rouen, the landing beaches, Bayeux etc. Because it's right in the middle. I forgot that France is bloody huge, it's in the middle all right but miles away from all of it! In fairness, Deauville, Treuville and Honfleur are within easy distance.
The hunting lodge and grounds have been owned by the same family of French nobles since Norman times, they were occupied by the Germans in WW2, Madame Curry who is now the owner and who was a young girl during the war, gives a fascinating and heartwarming history of the family, the lodge, their chateaux and the war years, in one of the reception rooms of the lodge, not to be missed. There is a very musical bent to the site, with anyone who is inclined allowed to 'entertain'.
We fell in love with Le Brevedent and will go back once we've been to all the other sites in France that look so good!

This site really is a gem with super access from the motorway, we used it to break up our holiday en-route to Brittany.
This Les Castels site lives up to what you expect, its in the grounds of a lovely chateau with terraced pitches leading down to a very pleasant lake, there a few statics but not too many.
The staff were really welcoming, and we also had the pleasure of being invited to hear Madame Bony tell the history of the Chateau and her family (Even my 16year old was intrigued!)
The weather, as other reviewers have commented was wet and as a result some of the pitches were waterlogged, but the staff used a sensible rotation method to allow them to drain and had a tractor on standby to get people off and on the road.
One criticism I would have is really the takeaway on site, the pizza's were ok, but the rest of the offering really wasn't what you expect for Les Castels.
The toilets could also do with some renovation, and no soap was loaded into the dispensers (the three days we stayed) but having said that they were clean.
The lake is super and you can hire Canoes really cheaply. My kids spent about 2 hours on the canoes for 2 euros.
All in all a smashing place to tour Normandy, and even Paris itself, we went to Paris for the day from Liseaux (1hr 30 away).

We had a friendly greeting & were efficiently shown to our pitch which after a 6 hour journey was just what we wanted.
Our pitch was of a decent size, but because of the rain a bit muddy. I shouldn't complain as the Eurocamp staff were digging ditches around some of their tents & strapping extra tarpaulins over their roofs. The electric supply to our pitch (reverse-polarity & 2 pin connection) was barely on for 2 or 3 days which was infuriating, but at least we got a refund when we settled our bill. The toilet block nearest to us was the oldest of the three on the site but despite the dreadful weather was kept remarkably clean. We only used the shop for baguettes & croissants as it seemed very expensive, instead we stocked up at E.Leclerc in Lisieux & the HyperU in Touques.
I must add to the praise of Laura from the Kids Club, on limited resources she kept our kids fully entertained. The pool was warm & clean
During our time we visited Lisieux, Bayeaux, Arromanche & Honfleur. We had a great meal out at the restaurant in Moyaux a few minutes drive away.
As I may have mentioned it was a bit wet for our visit to Le Brevedent & this has undoubtedly been reflected in my review.

Have just returned from this site and were really impressed. We just happened across it without booking and had the last pitch. It was remarkably peaceful although it was full and had a lovely laid back feel. There was also lots to do for children with a small kids club, great play area (fantastic trees for climbing) and various activities - my son loved the pony trekking and canoes. The restaurant was lovely, as was the bar in the chateau. The surrounding area was great with loads of lovely places to visit and the coast isn't too far (Honfleur and Trouville are worth a visit). But we enjoyed a couple of days lounging on site, the kids had plenty to do. The only down side was that the pool was on the chilly side (although supposedly heated) and the pitch we were on was on the small side, but we hadn't booked. There were some great pitches around the lake, worth knowing if you want to book. All round a great site which we would definitely visit again. If you want a relaxing, laid back, rural and peaceful campsite with a good family feel then this is the one.

We have just spent nine nights in Le Brevedent and it was fantastic. We stayed in the orchard and we had a very spacious pitch, and we have a huge tent but there was plenty of room. I wasn't too keen on the older style sanitation block to shower or use the toilets in, but that was ok because there are 2 others to chose from, one of which has cubicles with a shower, sink and some even with a baby bath in them. The dish washing facilities were great and the hot water was boiling! I am terrified of mice and rats, but during our stay I only saw two mice and three water voles, and the latter were actually in the small river and not the lake, and infact they were surprisingly cute! The bar in the chateau is friendly and welcoming and the drinks are reasonably priced 2euros 50 for a beer or coke. There are loads of board games in there. The talk by Mme Bony on Sundays nights is fascinating and not to be missed, she is a wonderful story teller and the history of the house is amazing. Also the musical evenings are great fun, and well worth a visit. The shop is well stocked and there is a delivery from the boulangerie every morning at half 8 and the bread is delicious and there is plenty of choice. The staff are amazing. Mme Bony's sons now run the campsite along with their mother Mme Gurrey and they do an excellent job, they are very welcoming and you are made to feel like you are part of the family. I have to put a specail mention in about the kids club, My three boys aged 8, 7 and 6 loved it and adored Laura who ran it, so much so that they even swapped email addresses with her when they left as they loved her so much. She made plenty of entertainment for them from pool games to a Harry Potter day. My husband fished several times in the lake and caught a massive fish.I think it was a carp! It is very shallow as said before, and the boys and my husband loved canoeing on the lake. Badminton, table tennis and golf equipment are available for free from reception to use on the courts. There are two childrens playgrounds, one which is better for younger children. We didn't use the restaurant as we barbecued every nigt but it was great to have the facilty available. Reception is packed with local information and you can buy cards to which give you time for internet access which is also available in reception. As a family we loved this site, I wasn't overly impressed with the Eurocamp facilites, but this is nothing to do with the site.
There is a supermarket Champion in Cormeilles which is about 10 minutes drive and about five minutes away there is Blangy-Le-Chateau where there is a paper shop, butchers, small convenience store and a wonderful patisserie.
If it wasn't for the fact that we want to go to Brittany next year then I would gladly go back to Le Brevedent.

We chose this camp site because it was part of the 'Les Castels' chain which we have used many times before and have always been very impressed with. We stayed on 4 different Les Castels sites this summer and this was by far the worst. Trying to be objective, we did stay here during all that awful rain at the beginning of July which may have been the problem but we were far from impressed with the site. We were given a pitch in the orchard area and it was extremely small. By the time we put up our trailer tent and awning there was a gap of just over 2 metres between us and our neighbour which I did not feel was acceptable. The pitch itself was badly drained and the people who had been on the pitch before us had clearly had difficulty getting their car off because there were deep ruts along one side of the pitch which made it very uneven. The grass had not been cut for about 3 weeks because of the rain and everything was overgrown and scruffy looking. There was also a terrible stink of drains which could be smelt from about 10-12 pitches in our area. The very nice English couple pitched beside us kept reassuring us that the site was not normally like this. Apparently they have been coming to this site every year for the past 7 years and have never seen it as bad as it was this year. The toilet blocks stank and the floors were constantly swimming with water and mud. We ate in the restaurant once and were not at all impressed with the food. It tasted like it had been made about 4 days before and heated up in the microwave! The small shop on site had a decent range of goods but was extremely expensive. The pool area was nice though and the site is in a good area for visiting the attractions of Normandy. All in all, we were very glad we were only staying here for a few days as a stop before heading further south. If we had been spending our whole holiday here I would have been very disappointed. However, I do want to be objective and reiterate that many of the problems we faced with drain smells, boggy ground and dirty toilet floors may have been down to the awful rain. However, the size of the pitches can't be blamed on the rain and some of them, particularly those in the orchard area were very very small.
