Visited the site on the 21st and 22nd August. A very warm welcome when I arrived and was quickly shown to my pitch. Facilities are spotless the site is very well looked. The kids play area is great and my 4 year old had hrs of fun on it. The site is in a great location if you like walking or biking with many nice walks/rides close. The site shop sells the basics you may need bread, bacon etc and there is always a smiling face serving you. Overall a fantastic 2 night stay. We will be going back and taking friends with us.

Just Back From Conkers camping and caravan Park

We came all the way from scotland and arrived later than planned. However when we arrived we were met by two friendly faces They helped us park our van and pointed out all the facilities on site. The next day I went to site office and was greeted very warmly by the staff and dealt with the business at hand. The facilities were very good and the toilets were spotless. Site was very clean and tidy My Wife and I enjoyed a few walks in the surrounding area. We were there for four days and had great time

All the staff were great and very helpful.

Some of the direction to camp could have been clearer final destination on satnav gave me picture of hedge

Would recommend it to anyone.

Site welcoming poor by female member of staff. Very very off putting.

Pitches great but you need good tent pegs for awning.

Grass is covered in clover so beware you could get stung by bees and someone who has anaphylactic shock must be careful. My poor grandson got stung as did others.

Shower block fine but shower uses push button for water.

Toilets are ok and clean.

Might come again not too sure.

We were a bit worried by some of the reports we had read about this site, but it was the nearest to where we wanted to go. We decided to book for one night only. But when we got there, the staff and the site was first class. Very friendly, very clean and well run. We ended staying five nights. Some of the comments I have read, I think that some folk expect five star accommodation. If they want that, then stay at home or book into a five star hotel. Wake up you knockers, this is a campsite. It's very, very clean and very well run with very friendly and helpful staff. Far superior to many I have visited. The only downside is that the shower/toilet block is a bit small for the size of the site and if you want to be picky, TV reception/mobile phone is poor but if you can't live without that, give up camping/caravanning.

I would certainly recommend this site to real campers.

Just back from a fabulous Bank Holiday weekend at Conkers. We arrived on the Friday and at that point it was starting to get busy. The site is quite exposed and as it was very windy it was challenging putting the tent up.

The main shower block was nice and clean but the showers are teeny and with 2 small children it was nigh on impossible to get us all showered. Also there are only a few showers so there was quite often a queue. We did try to get in the family washroom but there was always a queue. I did have a look in there on one occasion and it looked a little bit grubby and tired if I'm honest. The washing up area was lovely and clean but it only had 3 sinks and there was quite often a queue. 3 sinks is just not enough for a site of this size.

There is a children's play area which looked quite new and was well maintained. There was also a dedicated area for ball games as there was supposed to be no ball games between pitches but annoyingly this did not seem to be enforced and my car was hit on several occasions.

There is also a no noise between 11pm and 8am policy but again this did not seem to be enforced as some tents near us had children out playing and shrieking and adults 'talking' very loudly until well after midnight. I was particularly annoyed by this as my children were in bed and I kept them quiet until almost 9am the next morning (no mean feat I can assure you with a 3 and 6 year old) and still got glared at by the same people who had been making the noise!

All in all a nice site but it could do with the rules being enforced a little more.

We visited this site over the early May Bank holiday 2013. It is a modern site with good access. The site is flat, level and is well cared for. There is a children's’ play area and dog walking area away from the pitches along with other areas of greenery.

The pitch sizes are fine although it did feel a little crammed in over the busy Bank holiday weekend. The person who showed us to our pitch was extremely helpful and also very particular over where we pitched and the direction we faced etc – it felt a little too regimented. With this initial approach and clearly defined site rules I was therefore more than a little surprised when I saw youngsters from a number of families who were camping together building a campfire between pitches. I mentioned this to the main warden who passed if off as just brushwood. The rules clearly stated no campfires so why was it allowed? This was also not just brushwood but a decent size fire which then was not been properly tended to and left us feeling uneasy about safety.

Toilets and washing up facilities were clean and well kept, but as previous reviews have stated there is not enough of them when the site is busy.

The location is good with immediate access to pathways and walks. Campers get a discount at Conkers which was useful; this was a nice family day out although I did feel it was overpriced even with the discount. There are other National Forest visitor sites nearby to which entry is free (or with just a car parking charge) and these are excellent if you get the good weather we had. The nearby pub (The Navigation) is also fine for a drink or two in the beer garden on a sunny afternoon and there is a good range of play equipment and animals for the youngsters to look at. It didn’t seem the type of place I would particularly want to dine at. If you are willing to drive there are a number of places towards Swadlincote including The 50s American Diner. Whilst not located in the most scenic part of the area it is a genuine dining car with a good atmosphere and American sized portions.

I always think you probably see the worst of a site over a Bank Holiday as they are generally at their busiest. If we had visited a week later we probably wouldn’t have felt as hemmed in and probably wouldn’t have had a group building fires. Having said this I still don’t think this is the best C&CC site. If I wanted to visit the area again I would certainly consider coming back, but I would not return purely to visit the campsite.

Good big open site. Very friendly staff. We arrived when snow and ice were on the ground. The staff went to great lengths to keep us safe underfoot by putting salt/sand down. The shower block was warm and clean. Despite the cold conditions we still managed to get out for walks to the nearby visitor centre that has a restaurant too. We hope to return later in the year, hopefully it will have warmed up by then!

A soulless flat open site with no landscaping or any natural features to enhance what is basically a field with toilets.

Facilities are spotless and there is no complaint there, water is piping hot and may be too hot for children, but as stated previously the showers are ridiculously small and are not fit for purpose.

When raining it does become boggy and puddles abound everywhere.

Location is failry good and you are within reach of quite a lot of places to visit.

However we will never return to the site based purely on the staff

We went to conkers for a long weekend. arrived on site at lunch time. there had been a fair amount of rain the day before so the grass was still, wet but nothing to give any problems,

1st impression was the couple that run the site can not do enough for you, also when ever you go to the toilet/shower block they are spotless, one of the best I have seen (a credit to them) also the site itself is always tidy and clean.

In my opinion one of the best sites that I have ever stopped on.

We will be back again.

A credit to them thank you

Used this site as a stop over for one night.

The ground was very, very wet and having arrived 10mins after a very heavy down pour there was standing water everywhere. However, the site warden kindly walked us around and suggested some areas that would drain faster than others. In the end he told us to just pitch where ever we could find a dry spot. We were the only tent on the field on what would normally be a full site at the weekend. The warden did say there were several areas that got very boggy so I think this site can be prone to being wet (no surprise really being as it is on an old mine area).

The ground was mostly soft with a few hard spots that we managed to move the pegs around and avoid. You may find in dryer weather that you might need a few rock pegs.

The toilet/shower facilities were spotless. I know the site was not full but even then there was no mud or dirt on the floor as you walked into the facilities. There was a lack of space to put stuff in the showers as there was just one stall to sit on/put your stuff on and a couple of pegs. The showers were push button and nice and warm. Not so keen on the shower curtain as they do have a tendency to get in the way and you had to keep making sure it hadn't dropped outside the shower tray letting water out onto the drying area floor. The whole shower area (shower/drying area) was not huge but enough for what you needed to do in there. Can't comment on queuing time for showers as the site was almost empty so not an issue. There is no socket for hair dryers but there was a hair dryer you could use for 20p which was a good powerful one. There were coded entry locks on the doors but these were out of action whilst we were there.

We didn't use the washing up area or laundry but they both looked okay.

There is a small play area for children in the corner of the tent field but no dedicated ball area (that we saw anyway).

Trees within the site are still establishing. The surrounding trees/bushes do provide some screening but I can imagine when it is windy there is little shelter from it it as the area is still quite open.

The Conkers National Forest Centre is next door and it is worth checking before you go what events are being held there. There was a folk festival going on the weekend we stayed. When we arrived in the afternoon music could be heard but not excessively. We went out for the evening and came back just before 11pm to find a concert going on (very loud music and cheering crowds). However, this did stop at 11pm. But then there was the traffic noise as well as some music and loud voices until about 2am as everyone left the site. After that stopped it was a really quiet site, so on a weekend without any events noise would not be an issue. It wasn't a major problem for us but thought it was worth mentioning to be aware of.

Overall a good site and we would go back and use it again (hopefully when it is dryer).
