We visited this CCC club site this April and had asked for a hardstanding pitch close to the toilet block. The friendly staff kept us a pitch near where we had requested also we meeting with our brothering law and we given pitch next to them. We found this site up to the high standard which we find on all CCC sites and we mainly stay on their sites as we are members.
Our family came to visit with the grandchildren and we visited the Conkers centre, which is only 5 minutes walk from the site, we were very disappointed with Conkers centre to us it was no more that a glorified country park at an expensive price.
We enjoyed our time at Conkers CCC site and this was our first visit to this site and hope to go again soon.

We chose Conkers for our first ever outing as it was fairly close to home.
The site itself still has that slightly barren feeling as it is still in its infancy and therefore trees and shrubs have yet to mature.
On arrival we explained to the warden that we were on our virgin run and they couldn't have been more helpful came over and helped OH reverse onto the pitch and even gave us a few little tips for future trips!
The toilet and showering facilities were immaculately clean and showers were hot. Well placed waste and water stands and the chemical disposal area was spotless!
We ventured over to the Youth Hostel for a drink and would have liked to have eaten there on our second night but the were hosting a private function. We opted instead for a Chinese and had it delivered to the site from a nice place called Kims Kitchen in Swadlincote.
My one criticism of the site is that its a shame that they haven't built a play area as there is ample space to site it in the ball games area.
Whilst there we visited Conkers which is fab and if you are a C&CC member children get in free for every full paying adult.
So all in all a great place for our first trip though we wouldn't use it again as it a bit too close to home and other than Conkers there wasn't a lot else to do in the area

This is our third visit to Conkers C&CC site and each time we have caravanned with friends. The wardens have always gone out of their way to make us feel welcome and have always managed to pitch us together as a group.
The toilet facilities remain spotless. We have used hardstanding an grass pitches her (this time, grass) and my experience is that you do get more room with a hardstanding. I'm sure the wardens are well within their 6m distance between units, but I still felt just a little cramped.
Ground is a bit hard - might be worth trying rock pegs even on the grass, and certainly on the hardstandings. This is the third year Pete and Dawn have been wardens here, so sadly, they will soon be moved to another site - I just hope that the next wardens will be as friendly and as helpful as they have been.
The children's play are is very basic and is really only an area for ball games - there is room for development here. Grass pitches are still not clearly marked out (except for hardstandings), but perhaps the wardens value the flexibility to change pitching plans.
Asda, Sainsbury, Morrisons and Co-Op supermarkets available in Tamworth (on junction down on the M42 - Junction 10) and a Tesco Supermarket is available at the junction with the A42 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Two fish and chip shops available in Overseal.
There is a lack of decent pub food in the immediate area - probably the best is the Cricketts at Acresford (and probably the only place available locally at lunchtime) - we had a really excellent meal here on the Sunday evening. Cheap basic food is available at the Youth Hostel house at the entrance to the site (also licenced).
The Conkers Centre is worth a visit and there are several National Trust and English Heritage sites close at hand to visit (Calke Abbey NT; Ashby Castle EH).
Easy to get into Birmingham if need be (about 40 min on M42-M6).

Visited for a week over the Easter school hols (but not Easter weekend itself). Wardens are fabulous! Facilities spotless. Very spacious pitches. Meticulously mowed - every blinking day! Couldn't get wifi access where we were ptiched so if you want/need it then check before you pitch as some parts of the site (like where we were) are not in range - TV signal was a bit hit & miss on our pitch too.
Popped our heads into the YHA next door and it looked really good - brand new - bar/meals etc. - kept saying we'd go over and have a drink there (and use their internet) but never got round to it.
Had lovely chips from the chip van that visited the site on the Friday evening - but queued for 50 mins to get 3 portions of chips and by the time we got them the rest of our meal was dried up as we'd timed the BBQ, we thought, to perfection but didn't expect to have to wait 50 mins! And the site wasn't even full!
Conkers next door was nice - but a tad expensive for what it was even with the C&CC discount. Altons Towers and Swadlincote Ski Slope were winners with the kids though. I loved the massive car boot sale on the Sunday morning at Measham - about 6 miles away - although it starts early so not much good if you like a lie-in!

This was our first time on a camping and caravanning site and what an eye opener. Firstly as soon as we entered the site we were made welcome by pete,he took us to our pitch explained the rules and took time to make sure you felt relaxed. The site itself is superb and a real credit to the work that the wardens do. Its spotlessly tidy and has superb facilities. On a friday night a chip van goes onto the site for 2 hours and the food is great( although very popular so you do have to wait a while) but just down the road from the site there are 2 chip shops if you choose to venture out. Also on site is the superb youth hostel which doubles as a cafe/bistro and bar till 9pm very nice and brand new addition
Just over the road is conkers so something for everybody there.
All in all its a top site and only 30minutes from where I live so we will def return very soon.

Spent a sunny September weekend here, lots of vans, but very few tents, and only a couple of other small tents. Having the youth hostel next door is nice for tenters, the bar has local ales and the breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately, the lights from the YHA are rather bright at night.
The site is very new and open, but will look better as the trees and shrubs grow. Site facilities excellent, as good as you'd expect from a C&CC site.
Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a nice town nearby with an interesting castle, there are a couple of nice walks there.
All in all, an interesting weekend in an area we don't know very well, would go again, but in a few years time. Well worth taking bikes.

First time we have used this site, although we live quite local, very impressed. Friendly wardens, clean, well spaced units despite being full. Brilliant dog walk, an enclosed area where you can let dogs free, our dog is a bit weary of other dogs and he loved it. Plenty of walks around we did not go to the Conkers Park we just sat back people watched and enjoyed the rest.We would definitely go again

This was our first visit to a C&CC site which, as non-members, wasn't exactly a cheap weekend. However we were aware of this at the time of booking and to be fair the warden offered to refund us the costs we would have saved if were members if we joined that weekend.
First off, the wardens, Dawn and Pete. Both extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. Checking in was painless and Pete was soon leading us to the area where we could pitch. As we were part of a group of four families he explained the club rule about no less than 6m between each tent and once we'd got our tent set up he paced 6m as a guide for the next one to be set up. One thing I would mention at this point is that he will enforce this 6m, albeit in a friendly manner, so don't go thinking you can pitch any closer once his back his turned! I did think he could make his life a bit easier by actually marking the 6m separation with a tent peg or similar as his 'scuff' marks on the grass weren't that clear. However as long as you pitch where he says then you can't go wrong.
Kids wandered over to the ball games area whilst we were setting up. This is a little disappointing given the family tag to this site as it basically accounts to a set of goalposts and a free-standing basketball hoop. There's no play area as such so little kids may get bored very quickly. I know that the main attraction of this site is the fact that the Conkers park itself contains massive play areas and assault courses for all ages of kids but that's 10 minutes walk away and you're not going to let your kids wander off to visit that on their own!
The site itself is relatively new and this shows by the lack of established trees and hedges around. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue but as the surrounding countryside is pan-flat and there's no immediate shelter from trees etc in neighbouring fields, the end result is the wind howls across this site! We found this out to our cost on the Saturday when, after a night of what we thought were already strong gusts had been battering the tent all night, the speed increased significantly to the point that all four tents suffered either broken / bent poles or rips. We had pitched as recommended and the tents had already taken a lot of battering with no problems but the wind just got stronger and stronger. With no natural shelter around the site the tents had to take the full-force and inevitably they suffered in the end.
The toilets and shower-blocks are literally spotless and a credit to the wardens. The site wasn't very busy when we went but there seemed to be plenty of showers and toilets to go round and even separate a separate family shower room. There's good lighting as well which comes in handy at night when you're trekking over to the toilets! Don't worry, it's not football field floodlighting though, just small lights which illuminate just enough for you not to have to take a torch with you.
The Conkers park is just 10 minutes walk away through the trees and if you're a C&CC member you get a free child place for every adult (saves you about £10).
A fish and chip van visits the site early in the evening. We used the one back in the village called Overseal (about a mile away) as the van had gone by the time we'd finished setting up. The village chippy was excellent though and portion size was huge and great value for money. Make sure you ask for salt and vinegar on your chips if you want it though as they will presume you don't unless mentioned.
Summary:
Pros
*Excellent wardens, very friendly and nothing too much trouble.
*Spotless toilets and shower facilities. We would imagine the other facilities are the same i.E dish washing hut, laundry hut etc.
*Basic store on-site for sundry items of food/drink. Try the freshly baked bread!
*Conkers park 10-minute walk away - really good for the kids.
*Chip van on site most evenings, or village chippy a 10 minute walk away.
Cons
*Very exposed site with no natural shelter. Trees and shrubs just not established yet so expect a battering if the weather gets windy.
*Ball game area should not be confused with play-area. There is nothing else other than a goal-post and basketball hoop.
*Can get expensive if you're not a C&CC member.
Overall we liked the site and would return next year but when the weather was guaranteed to be better! We would also join the C&CC club as well, which would make the site a lot more affordable.

Lovely clean site, well maintained, best toilet facilities we've stayed at. However, we wont be going back. The site was expensive considering that anything worth visiting (Conkers, Twycross Zoo etc) isnt free, and we weren't even there in the summer months; it was September.

Lovely clean toilets and shower block. Lots of rules that must be obeyed. Rigorously enforced especially on the children. Cycle routes right next to site, Morrisons 5 min drive away. Great site if you have a dog and caravan. Would not really recommend for young families. Children's play area small cordoned off area in corner of site. Close to Alton Towers. Didn't visit Conkers park around corner because of previous reviews. Local chinese delivers to site which was handy as the chip shop van was not at the site the week we were there. 1950's Diner worth a visit for a drink sited on nice industrial estate only 5 mins away. May return when retired and have a dog.
