We stayed at Grange Farm for 3 nights over the August Bank Holiday. We loved the 180 degree sea view (yup it was windy on the cliff edge, so be prepared to double-peg, but it's well worth it!) and the direct access to Brighstone beach a couple of hundred yards down a track.

The beach was great when we were there - no rubbish or seaweed, just flat sand below the high-tide level and good breakers for our 7-9 year old body-boarding enthusiasts.

We pitched in the furthest away field - no marked pitches in that field which is only open at peak times I think - and although it did fill up over the weekend and there was a degree of jostling for a cliff-edge position, there was still plenty of open space.

The main field - with marked out pitches - had more of a regimented feel but the tents certainly weren't on top of each other and the facilities seemed adequate for the busy time - plenty of hot water and never had to queue for a shower.

The staff were lovely, it really was service with a smile even on what must have been one of their busiest weekends. Other plus points - an excellent playground (our boys are usually good for 1/2 an hour on a climbing frame but would have happily played all day on the huge variety of climbing/swinging things and places to make a den) and the delicious freshly-baked pain au chocolate and baguettes from the shop.

Brighstone village is only a 10 minute walk - across the road and along a pleasant bridleway - and is well worth visiting for its well-stocked village store. It's very picturesque, so there are plenty of photo opportunities too.

The best walks though are along the coastal path in both directions - easy flat-ish walking, (more) stunning views and the bizarre experience of the coastal path taking you right through the middle of a 1960s time-warp holiday village, some of which appears to have been lost during cliff crumble although the rest still appears to be open for business.

Nowhere seems particularly far from anywhere else on the Isle of Wight, but we liked the fact that the location of Grange Farm is 'remote' by local standards, but is still only 20 minutes or so from Ventnor and Shanklin for when only a resort will do.

All in all, can heartily recommend this campsite - we'll definitely be returning.

We spent a week at this campsite, as many other reviews have mentioned it is on the edge of a cliff and can be prone to wind.

We were very lucky with the weather and only had one windy/rainy night - but did it blow a gale! We camped with three other families, so in all there were 5 tents and 17 people, the owner opened up a field for us so we could be pitched together.

Near us we had portaloo's which were very handy but it was a nightmare getting the toilet roll out of the holders !

The facilities are clean and tidy, the showers are a little bit dingy and dated but there is a good selection of showers, including family shower rooms. We also used the washing machines and tumble dryer which were reasonably priced.

The play area is fantastic along with the other animals. The shop is well stocked with camping gear and essentials, including local produce.

There is also a burger van which has a great selection of food on offer again, very reasonably priced. All in all a very good campsite.

What a great site! Just back from a week at the start of school holidays.

On arrival the check in was very smooth and extremely friendly. We were informed that you select your own pitch and as I had asked for one near to the playground they even offered to move their own motorhome if I couldn't find a suitable pitch.

We ended up with a fantastic pitch in the corner of the field, with ample space and the bonus of a wooden picnic table, overlooking kids playarea.

The site as many have reported can get windy!, but the location looking out to sea is fantastic.

Whilst the site was fairly busy it never seem over crowded. I never had to wait for a shower and whilst the showers may be a bit dated, they were always clean and had hot water.

The on site shop stocked all the food and camping basics and had fresh bread and pastries. It also stocked a great range of 'pocket money' toys for the kids. Only comment is that it doesn't open to 9am, which for us was a bit late for getting breakfast goods. There is also anon site fish & chip van, which was open all day and pretty reasonable. (If they put out a breakfast menu I'm sure they would be busier).

In the local village, about 15 min walk across fields, there is a great Village Store, Pub and Post Office for anything you can't get on site (alcohol mainly).

If you a venturing out I would also recommend the Horse & Groom at Ningwood.

The whole site is very family friendly and the playground and animals kept the kids (9 & 5) occupied for hours. It may not be as good for teens as there is no club house, but that was a plus for us. It is all kept clean and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

We didn't use the beach as we opted for the beach at Brook about a mile up the road.

We will definitely use this site again, whilst the kids are young.

Just back from 3 nights at this site. It helped that the weather was good. The site is literally at the top of the cliffs overlooking its own beach. A lovely setting, but prone to wind.

When we arrived the wind was quite strong so setting up was challenging. We also found that the ground was very hard and there seemed to be quite a lot of stones under the surface. Two of the four fields were closed, which meant that the two open fields were quite crowded.

There is ample provision of electric hookups, toilet blocks and drinking water and fire points in those fields. There is at least one chemical toilet disposal point.

There is a good children's play area on site, which seemed to be busy most of the time, and easy access to a sandy beach. The shop seemed to be well stocked, though we only bought ice cream. There was a mobile fish and chip van too. Booking and checking in procedure was straightforward and all the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Generally the facilities were pretty good and we only had to queue for a few minutes at the washing up point once.

The village is a short walk away (uphill) and has a couple of places to eat and a good shop that stock a whole range of food and other useful items. The Three Bishops was OK for food but the menu was uninspired and they seemed to use the microwave rather a lot.

A few negative points though. First: the hardness of the ground. We may have been unlucky as we were visiting after several very dry weeks, but we did bend a lot of pegs.

Second: The facilities were adequate and clean, but a bit tired and dingy. It would have been nice to have soap in the toilets. I suspect also that when the site is full and all the fields in use, the facilities would be pushed to the limit.

Third: It was very crowded. We had to go round the whole site to find a spare pitch, others who arrived after us ended up pitching in odd corners and alongside the road, not ideal. With so many visitors it might have been nice to open at least part of one of the other fields just to spread the load. We would have preferred to have gone into one of them and been less crowded even if further from the facilities.

We were lucky and, apart from a few hours on the first day, had little or no wind and the weather was sunny and dry. We would go back, it's a nice site and plenty to do on site and locally. We (self and 2 teenage boys) didn't go into the farmyard area so can't comment on that.

We stayed here for the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May. The staff were very friendly and helpful both when we booked and when we arrived. The site is set in a beautiful position on the cliff edge at Brighstone Bay. The only downside to this is that it can be incredibly windy but on the upside it is stunning with walks over the cliff tops and along the beach accessible from the site.

There are plenty of toilets dotted around the site and all are clean and regularly tidied up. There are also plenty of showers with hot water, a family shower room and also a bath if needed. In addition to this there is a laundry and plenty of washing up sinks.

There is a well stocked shop with everything you could need.

Facilities for children include a fantastic, imaginative play area and many animals that can be visited including alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, chickens, pigs, horses, a donkey, ducks and other wildfowl.

One thing that impressed me was that during a particularly windy day whilst we were out the campsite staff patrolled around and made sure that our tent was secure as some of the guy ropes had become detached. Great service!

 Fantastic campsite!

Owner very friendly and genuinely very helpful.

Fantastic play area for kids, our kids who are 3 and 6 loved it, plus they have lots of animals for the kids to look at our boys loved it.

Right next to the beach, and fabulous coastal walks right on your doorstep. Plus campsite do a very cheap ferry deal, they saved us about £50 off the ferry.

We have been to the Isle of Wight at least 10 times and use to stay at the coast guard cottages that over looks the campsite. It was our first ever camping trip and it was fantastic, loved the campsite.

Would definitely recommend the site to anyone. Best beaches on the isle of wight are Sandown and Shanklin.

This was a fantastic campsite (and hence we're leaving our first ever review). We will definitely be returning here, but I wanted to add a few comments.

This campsite has the most friendly owners and site workers. There is a shop/office that's open from 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday, even when the site is quiet (9am-4pm Sunday), and every single person we spoke to was unfailing helpful and cheerful.

There's an ice pack exchange service, and the shop was very well stocked (bacon, milk, tins of everything, kites, toys, sweets, cheese, tofu burgers, you name it,) and you can even order freshly baked croissants and French bread. When we arrived, we were told we could pitch anywhere we liked, which was quite novel!

Be aware; this site is very very very windy especially if you pitch near the edge of the cliff! We didn't go especially near the edge, but still faced winds of 40mph. Our pop up tent (quechua 4.2) survived and did us proud (despite popping down on us once or twice), but we saw that a fellow camper's windbreak actually sliced through their tent. We went and bought windbreaks whilst on the Isle of Wight, and I suspect that all sites on the south of the island face the wind issue.

There was constant hot water on site (with signs that advised that if it were to run out, to please inform somebody as they could switch to a different tank). Was very impressed by that, as at most places, it just runs out.

We made use of the 'family bathroom', which the owner was very clear is not for 'families only', but is available for use by all. It's really handy to have a large bathroom, with lots of space to hang things and a chair etc, meaning that the usual dancing ritual of trying to hang, balance, dry and dress could be avoided.

They also have a bath, although nobody appeared to be using it during our stay! The facilities were kept exceedingly clean, although I felt the toilet/shower blocks could probably do with some updating (but I think that about every campsite).

The only downside was the 'push button' technology, since the water only lasts about 8 seconds before having to be re-pushed. However, since the water was constantly very warm, it's more an observance than a complaint.

Also, there was an additional portable loo style block nearer to our tent that was unfortunately not always open, which was a bit of a pain as it takes about 5 minutes to reach the main loos if you pitch nearer to the edge of the cliff (these are minor quibbles, but I always like lots of detail.)

The site really does have lots of animals (horses, donkeys, even llamas) which are great to visit, and the children's playground is second to none. We don't have children, but were impressed by multiple swings, slides, tractors, Thomas the Tank engines, and all sorts of play equipment made from bits of old farm machinery.

Since the children's equipment is well away from the rest of the site, it meant that noise was kept away from the tents as well. A big plus.

One thing to note that we were unaware of is the bikers' festival. Every single May Bank Holiday, there is a bikers' festival in the adjoining field (two fields away). It wasn't a problem, but music from their rock concert did drift over, and they kept going until midnight for two or three nights. We were mostly asleep and it didn't keep us up, but it might bother more sensitive souls.

The site is fantastic because it's so near the beach. You can just wander down the road and you're on the beach and by the sea. Also, it appears to be on several walking routes, so plenty of ramblers just wandered through the end. The site seemed to be occupied by families, singles and couples, and is probably one of the most beautiful sites we've ever stayed at.

This is one of the best sites we have ever stopped on. We spent the first week in August there. You can choose your own pitch which is something I really like on sites. We choose to pitch near the cliff edge.

The site is in a rural location with a beautiful little village a short walk away. It is quite windy on the site due to the location and we did have high winds on a couple of evenings but this did not present a problem other than we were unable to BBQ. I would recommend a decent quality tent and heavy duty pegs as we did see some tents damaged.

The site owners were friendly and helpful, the site shop is well stocked. There is a fantastic children's play area which is large and has space for lots of children. The farm is great, my kids loved looking at the animals and wondering round which we had to do at least once a day.

The showers and toilets were clean at all times (including a 5am trip to the loo where I found they had just been mopped!) Family shower rooms and a bath are available. There were indoor and out door washing up facilities and a couple of portacabin type toilets so that you didn't need to walk to the main block.

There is a direct path down to a pebble/sand beach and plenty of fossil hunting in the area.

A take away van stopped on the site a couple of evenings which was well notified during the day.

We loved our time at this site and will be returning in the next couple of weeks although may avoid the cliff edge due to April weather.

An amazing campsite was our first impression. Very friendly and helpful owners and staff. The facilities are all brilliant, lots of showers, launderette and great play area.

The shop was the best stocked we had ever seen, from food to toys and lots of handy camping equipment/spares. It is a very large site with lots of choices of pitch i.e near the play area, or a more open field near cliff edge or across the main road is a more sheltered couple of fields with stunning views of countryside and sea.

The only downside of it's location is the wind. We chose to pitch in the field by the cliff, but quite a way back as we were warned by the owner that it is a bit risky to pitch to near the cliff. We were unlucky when we went as there were three days of freak winds gusting up to 50 mph.

Our tent eventually collapsed (see review coleman 8 coastline deluxe) and we moved to the field across the road, but the damage was done and when it rained the tent leaked and we cut our visit short. The owners were very helpful in changing our ferry booking so that we could leave asap.

Despite this I would still recommend and revisit the site just be aware of the weather when you pitch and have a good quality tent and I would recommend delta pegs.

Great location on the quieter more rural side of the island, still with lots to do and see. Not to far to the bigger towns either. Overall a great campsite.

We have just returned from Grange Farm and wanted to write a review for the site (our FIRST one!)

There was a very friendly welcome and we could choose our pitch. We chose one opposite the playground which our two children loved (ages 4 and 7). There is a small farm with larger animals in an adjacent field. With a secluded beach 3 minutes walk away, there was plenty for children to do.

The facilities were clean and adequate for the August Bank Holiday weekend. Even for this time of year, it was busy but it never felt crowded as we have done in other sites.

The site shop was well stocked with food and camping equipment and even sold freshly cooked baguettes and croissants for breakfast!

It was a brilliant site and we WILL be returning next year!
