Wow! This is a great campsite with great views of the setting sun. Especially when you pitch your tent by the cliff edge. But be warned it can get very windy, very windy indeed! However, the campsite management are very helpful and even came to warn us one day about the wind, and then came back to check on our tent while we were out and tied it down even further for us. The ground is hard - you will certainly need a mallet and storm pegs. The first fields with electric hook-ups seemed quite tightly packed. The outer fields were much better.
There are good facilities - for the kids there are several play areas and animals for them to meet [all contained down one end of the campsite], for the adults there are decent, free showers [but they can get busy and can you can have a very long wait], laundry, washing-up facilities, coffee/tea vending machine, on site shop with great fresh bread and you could even have a bath! The fields which are further away have their own portacabin style toilets, water and cold-water washing up sinks.
You also have direct access to the dog-friendly beach. It's a rocky beach like many on the IoW and the waves were quite ferocious, not necessarily somewhere where small children could paddle though. We would definitely return but maybe not pitch so close to the cliff edge.

Just returned from this great camp site on the pretty southern stretch of the Island after a long weekend break. The owners make you feel welcome the moment you arrive, you can pick your own pitch (so arrive early for the best ones!), and the fact that the site has a farm is great for kids and adults alike!
There are lovely walks a stone's throw from the site and a pretty village with a good pub serving food about 10 mins away. The shop is well stocked, showers are adequate and washing up/laundry facilities good.
It is right on the sea though so be prepared for some winds coming straight off the sea! Views from the site are also lovely. Would definitely return.

Lovely friendly campsite with grest showers toilets, overlooking the sea and a short walk over the fields to the pub in Brightsone that serves great food. Highly recommended for families and couples.
The campsite has a play area for children and various animals on site. Going back again tomorrow as its our favourite campsite on the Island.
Clean beach and great place to swim. Can be a bit windy as on a cliff but if you are in a camper no problems.

I'll start with the positives:
Grange Farm is a very child friendly site with an excellent playground and farm to keep children entertained. The site is large and can cater for many units. The owners let you pick your own spot to pitch on.
Owner's comments: Large site, we do not think of ourselves as a large site we are a 60 pitch site with an option to open extra fields over busy periods to spread people out (to give extra room)
Toilet block facilities are not the best I've visited but are ok. The far end of the site overlooks the sea on a cliff edge, and if pitched there you can hear the waves rolling into the shoreline, very relaxing at night to fall asleep to.
Owner's comments: We are only a high end 3 star site, we are always trying to get 4 stars by upgrading toilets and showers (adding things like private wash cubicles etc)
The ground is nice and soft for you to hammer those tent pegs in which is always helpful. There is a pathway to walk down to the beach. On site shop was well stocked with all essentials. The area is lovely with lots of coastal views and walks.
The village of Brighstone is close by and has a lovely cafe with a terrace to sit out on for afternoon tea.
Ok and now for the negatives:
As we arrived at the start of the school holidays the site was busy, very busy! We struggled to find a suitable pitch and nearly gave up after the third tour round of the site. The tents were packed in like sardines. Literally guy ropes from one tent crossing over guy ropes from their neighbours. It seemed like our only option was to squeeze into a small gap we eventually found and hope the tent would fit. It did fit, just.
Owner's comments: I'm guessing they arrived on the Saturday or Sunday of the Whitsun May bank Holiday. The Portsmouth Ferry onto the Isle of Wight broke down in the morning (by hitting something out at sea) this delayed all the ferries right over the the peak Whitsun weekend all running 2 and a half hours behind. We had one lady who booked on the 8 pm ferry arriving at the ferry port 7.30pm, and not getting to us until after midnight. This meant that people were just pitching anywhere, normally we book people in and show them where to pitch (ie we had standard tents all in between the electrics etc) This only affected the Whitsun weekend everything went back to normal after the Monday / Tuesday
I did mention how child friendly this site was in my positives, but this was a negative for us as the kids tended to use any available space to play in. So we often got a ball kicked into our tent, or while sitting out in our 'limited space', you tended to become ball girl. We tried a BBQ one day and the little ones who were playing football and using the side of our tent as one of the goalposts were very interested in knowing if we had any sausages left.
Owner's comments: We are normally very proud to tell people we spread them right out, we have many fields we can open to really get people away from each other. We normally open a large field next to our main field that over looks the sea, so that people that like to spread out really can, we didn't over this weekend due to winds of 45 mph gust were forecast (ie if we had have opened the field we would have lost a lot of tents due to the wind) Instead we opened another field at the back (not over looking the sea) what happened was people arriving late just found a gap and pitched in it, this leaving the back field near empty and the edge of the cliff field pitch to pitch over this one weekend.
It was quite hard to relax on this site and we tended to go out early and return late. As the site was very busy the toilets ran out of loo roll and paper towels very quickly so had to take tissues with us just in case.
Owner's comments: We clean the toilets lots of times thoughout the day, and do many checks - we did not get any complaints in any way whatsoever over this weekend of no toilet roll / loud children or balls being kicked into tents (ball games are only kept to the playground or an extra field we had open for kites / ball games etc)
Be careful which taps you use to get clean water as there were cold water taps and chemical disposal points at the end of each camping row. This caused some confusion as there were no signs to indicate which was drinking water and which point was for chemical waste. We often saw children using the same hose people were cleaning out the toilets with to clean there dishes and fill there water bottles.
Owner's comments: New for this year we have added one extra chemical disposal point right next to the bins (we thought this would be a plus point!) That gives us two chemical disposal points, one is next to the main toilets, and the new one next to the bins, we do however have water points on the end of the campsite rows for peoples ease of use
I feel the site owners could look at maybe marking pitching areas out so as to define camping pitches and spaces. Also clearer signs on the taps. They need to check facilities more regularly at busy times.
Owner's comments: We normally do mark out our pitches for July and august school holidays, with the ferries being delayed and lots of people arriving late, it did cause a bit of confusion over he weekend. In hindsight we should have had the extra field open over looking the sea, and would have done had we known we would have had so many late arrivers pitching up in the first space they found while entering the field. As for the taps, all our taps are drinking water apart from the new chemical disposal point that you have to open a hatch on to get to the waste. We have remade some of the bases on the taps on the end of the row new for this year, and I have re-made some new signs for a couple that were missing on site.
We really work hard to make people happy on site, we had a very busy weekend with lots of people pitching in the wrong place, it makes people really unhappy to move them after they have put a tent up in the wrong place, maybe in hindsight we should have done that, however when walking around the site everyone seemed to be happy and we had no complaints from anyone
In the middle of August we open a massive field up behind us, and there are hardly any tents in this field (big open spaces) There are not many campsites that can offer this facility, if ever these people return to the island I would be proud to show them how spaced out the camping pitches can be.

The owners greet you with a smile, and are full of local information, the shop is full of lots of goodies, from food to camping gear.
The site itself is quite big, the Showers / Toilets etc to one side, where there is a collection of small animals. The other side is big flat field with small fence's with pitch markings, some with a electric points.
Over the bank holiday weekend this field filled up but the showers & Toilets coped very well indeed. Always hot water & no queues for the loos, and always clean.
We had Great time, less than 5 mins from the sea, with breath taking views all round. We would recommend this camp site 100%.

Stopped off here for a night while walking around the isle of wight. They seemed very flexible and able to take people at short notice.
It had adequate wash blocks and a small shop. Staff there were friendly and helpful. Not at all expensive to stay.
Great view across the sea and village of Brighstone is a short walk away with various pubs. It's a peaceful campsite, probably best for people looking for a quiet getaway.

A lovely campsite with very friendly staff. The campsite shop was very well stocked and the toilets / showers were always clean. The pub was about a 10 minute walk away across fields, and there was a lovely restaurant / tea rooms which served a fantastic breakfast although we didn't get to try the fantastic looking cakes on display.
However there were a couple of niggles about the campsite. The showers had temperature regulators on them - the maximum temperature would be fine in the summer but on a cold April evening we found them a bit too chilly, (especially with aching muscles after a long cycle ride.)
The campsite is also very near the main road where motorcyclists seem to race up and down (which wasn't a problem at night, but could be quite noisy in the morning and late afternoon.)

There is nothing we can say about this camp site that is negative. Only positive, right from the warm welcome, the friendly staff / owners, the strange selection of 'farm animals' (two water buffallo included) through to the friendly farewell when we left. We hadn't read the booking form properly and didn't realise that we could have booked the ferry and the stay all through the camp site. We know now for the next time we come back, and I think we will come back.
We had a fantastic week, the sun shone most of the time although a little windy but we had picked the middle field, slightly set back from the cliff top. It was, considering the schools were back, quite busy. Great to be able to take the dog and the beach is only a short walk down a steep slope, not so easy going back up! One downside I suppose is the stoney beach, sand appeared once tide went down.
The toilet / shower facilities were always clean, there is a good laundry with washer / driers / ironing board, washing up facilities, even a bath! Very good.
We can highly recommend the site, we didn't get to try the fresh bread but would do so should be get back to the IoW in the future. You are staying in an uncommercialised area on the west coast of the island but the bigger towns are only a short drive away. Be aware that if you go to the Needles, the parking fee is £4, ok if you want to spend the day but quite expensive for a quick look round. We headed to Totland instead, parked for free, had great chips, and lovely promenade walks along the front.
Lovely place to stay

We visited Grange Farm for 7 nights with two children under 5. There is a shop on site which is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need but was a bit surprised it didn't open until 9am - camping with young children usually means a much earlier start than this.
The toilet and shower facilities were good, very occasionally they would run out of tissue for drying hands but this was a minor detail, the showers were lovely and a nice point is that they are free flowing (lots of campsites have the press buttons ones).
Children loved the playground and the animals. Views are beautiful around the site and nice walk down to the 'beach' there is supposed to be some sand but we only saw the pebbles. Down side of the site is that is it so so windy - be prepared, our tent held up to 40mph winds which we were very pleased with.
The village has a local shop and pub, did not try the pub but the shop was very well stocked.
The Isle of Wight itself is a fantastic place with lots to do. Black gang chine was a particular favourite with the children and is very close to this camp site. A lovely touch with the site is on certain nights there is a pizza van that makes fresh pizzas to order - they are very reasonable and very yummy ! All said we had a great time and would return.

We stayed at Grange Farm for 2 weeks in August and had a great time. The site was busy when we arrived, but the owners were very helpful in finding us two pitches close together for us and our friends in their caravan. We have a very large tent (Vango Diable 900 XL) which took up nearly two pitches, but this was not a problem.
The field is divided by wooden post and rail fences - you can't see this on the website photos which were taken some time ago (we last visited in 2004 and the fences weren't there then) and the EHUs are on the fences along the outside of the fields along with the water taps. The beach is
The kids loved the animals and being able to go around the farm - they were able to help hunt for eggs and feed some of the animals, although only with the owner's supervision, obviously.
The showers and loos were cleaned daily and once we found the other ladies loos at the far end of the block we didn't have to queue for them at peak times. Lots of free hot water for the showers and some of them have shower heads on hoses which is useful if you are taller / shorter than average or have small children. Be warned, long queues for the showers from about 7.30 in the morning to about 9.30, we found the best time was late morning or just before bedtime at about 10.30.
We were extremely lucky in the weather, having two weeks of almost unbroken sunshine and all our children (8 between us, from age 11 to 16) had a great time on the beach and in the sea. The beach is about 100yds away down a steep slope (hard work coming back up after a tiring day lying in the sun on the beach!)and is shingly at high tide but has sandy areas at low tide. The tide doesn't go out a very long way, but plenty far enough to give large enough areas of sand for playing, digging and to put beach shelters etc up. The beach does tend to get rather a lot of litter washed up from the shipping lanes, but the campsite owners come and litter-pick their part of the beach once a day (very impressed!)and it's mainly plastic bottles and bits of rope rather than anything more unpleasant.
Wetsuits were a great buy from the shop, which has a really good range of almost everything you could need at very reasonable prices, food and camping supplies (including airbeds for those nights with a 'sinking feeling'!). The site was really quiet from about 10pm, all the kids in bed or family groups talking quietly and no noisy groups or disturbances at all.
Local area - Brighstone village is pretty and has both a newsagents and a well stocked village shop, and there is a good Co-op supermarket in Freshwater along with the nearest petrolstation, also a fabulous fish and chip shop! The Three Bishops pub in Brighstone was fantastic, great food and service, nice garden and heated patio, fed 11 of us without batting an eyelid and we only had to wait 20 minutes for our food. Don't bother with the Wight Mouse near Chale, though, despite all the rave reviews in magazines the food was mediocre at best and the service was appalling - we waited over an hour for our food, the tables were dirty and most of the waiting staff seemed to be half-asleep.
We visited the Dinosaur Farm just down the road which the kids really enjoyed. It's a bit run down and the new owner is trying to get lottery funding to do the premises up, but the staff were knowledgeable and the fossils are seriously impressive. Ignore the shabby buildings, and at £9.50 for a family of 4 it's a bargain if your kids like fossils. Ours were particularly impressed with the sand tray where you can hunt for fossilised sharks teeth and you can keep the best half dozen that you find. Kept me amused for ages!
St Catherine's Lighthouse was really good with a very interesting tour (remember to check their opening times, not open every day and you can't drive down, bit of a trek back up the hill), Isle of Wight Glass in Ventnor was also good although beware of the VERY unmade road on the way down. The Needles Park is ghastly, total tourist trap and £4 to park - you have to pay to park here even if you want to visit the National Trust Old/New Battery up on the cliffs. The chairlift at the Needles down to Alum Bay is the only good bit, but at £4 per person for a return trip is very expensive.
Amazon World is also well worth a visit - lots of interesting animals and habitats to see and a good adventure playground outside for the kids to run the itches out of their feet while you sit and enjoy your ice-cream. Also, (and I'm very proud of this) I stroked a boa constrictor which was brought out in the animal encounters bit!
Ventnor has some nice bits (Botanical Gardens are lovely) but the town itself is quite run-down and has the worst road system I've ever come across; the road signs disappear once you're in the town and finding your way out again can be quite a challenge! We were also caught out on the way home back to the ferry at East Cowes - when coming back through Newport you need to follow the road signs towards Ryde, not Cowes otherwise you end up on the wrong side of the river for the ferry and have to either turn around and drive all the way back to Newport or pay to cross the chain bridge to the right side of the river! We thought we were just being dim, but our friends did exactly the same thing with their caravan - be warned, the chain bridge does not take caravans and they had to do a 3 point turn in a narrow road to turn around, something I understand is to be avoided if at all possible!
I love the Isle of Wight and Grange Farm is an excellent site for family camping. We had a wonderful time, and the staff at Grange Farm should be congratulated for the efficient, helpful and kind way they run their campsite. We'll definitely be going back!
