The van all have a sea view we were on the back row but had a good view over the loch lots of boats and cruisers going past the road was noisy but as the road is above the site it couldn't be helped got used to it after a while
There is a bar that does meals but didn't use
There was 2 shower blocks only used the one near reception had 3 toilets and sinks in ladies and 1 shower which for a big site was not good but nice and clean and water was hot but had the annoyng push button for water
The hobbits were interesting with good views over the loch

Stayed for 5 nights in July 2012. Lovely site with fantastic views over Loch Ness especially from a loch side pitch.
Site kept nice and tidy. Only down side is the shower block - very poor showers as, if more than one person having a shower water has no pressure and runs down the back wall. We used the shower in our motorhome.
Lovely walk into Invermoriston where the hotel serves lovely meals - a little expensive but very nice food. Small shop in Invermoriston but very limited on supplies probably the nearest big shops are Port Augustus.
Food on site is okay. Overall a good site and I will be back just needs toilet/shower blocks updated.

The site is fairly new (taking over from another site a little further out the road to Fortwilliam).
It's a short stroll into the town of Fort Augustus, which is a pleasant enough place to visit. There's not much in it, but activity around the flight of locks is interesting, and certainly not the sort of thing you'll find in the middle of many towns.
The site has about 40 hard-standing pitches with electric around the outside of a large field, with plenty of space in the middle for more touring units.
It also has a separate field for tents for walkers and cyclists, and as it turnedout canoe-ists!
It also houses a hostel, the the site caters well for a range of tourists.
Very plush facilities, though the tiled floor looks like it could be very slippery when wet.

We stayed here with our touring caravan for 1 week and had we not pre-booked the week we probably wouldn't have stayed that long. All pitches are hardstanding and it is on the shorefront of loch ness which was beautiful. A small campsite with 2 toilet blocks. It also has a small bar which isnt open all year.
We went with our dogs and this park, although it allows dogs, is not dog-friendly. There is a small beach just off the site which dogs aren't allowed on, they are not allowed in the small bar area and there are no dog walks available directly from the site. We had to take the car whenever we had to walk the dogs! During our stay, no attempt was made to fix the dish washing facility where there was no hot water at all during our stay and we had to wash our dishes in our caravan. The showers, although newish, were not maintained or cleaned to a good standard. The plughole kept pushing up hair etc. As it was not draining and we were standing in a puddle with other peoples hair! Also, no washing machines were available during our stay as it wasn't working and although we were offered that the owner's wife would do our washing if we required, at a cost, we really did not fancy handing over our smalls so we just waited till our next site to do the washing. When we complained to the owner about this he was extremely rude and raised his voice when we and fellow campers complained about the same issues.
A bit of advice, if you are given a space on the shorefront and you have a touring van, only attempt this if you have a motormover as we didn't and we got stuck! The brother of the owner and another staff member gave us a push out thankfully and they were very polite and helpful. The pitches are on a slight slope towards the loch so suit a campervan or caravan with a motormover. Also, you will need blocks to prop up the van due to the slope.
We enjoyed the scenery and the peacefulness but due to the other problems experienced, we will not be returning. The nightly cost, I cannot remember but it wasn't cheap and definitely wasn't worth it.
We would not recommend if you have dogs and in general would not recommend this site for a long stay, overnight stay would be ok.

Our first visit to this site. Struggled finding the site to begin with. As previously mentioned, the sign does not say 'Cumberland's campsite' so we ended up having to drive a mile or so to turn round and then ask a local.
Lovely little site. The reception was closed so we found a pitch and got set up (we had our pick of the pitches as there was only 1 other tent there).
Toilet block is very nice, new and clean. There were only 3 showers though, which I can see being a bit of a problem when the campsite is full.
We went into town (a 5 minute walk) and had a mooch around. Watched a boat being taken up the locks. Coincidentally it was a fishing boat from Pittenweem, only a few miles or so up the coast from our home town! Fort Augustus is pretty much just a tourist town though, so be prepared for lots of them!
When we came back the reception was open and we paid our fee. To be honest, at first we thought they had charged us incorrectly. £16 a night for 2 people in a 2/3 man tent seems a bit excessive. Especially considering the time of year. We did end up spending 2 nights at this campsite, costing us £32 in total. I don't think we would return because of this. Usually campsites charge by tent size not per person. By this theory, if there had been 3 of us in the tent it would have cost us £24 for a night! Something doesn't seem right there!
Apart from that it is a lovely site. Perhaps as it is new they will iron out some of the problems and re-evaluate the pricing.

Spent one night here on the way home and was not impressed!
Firstly, there are no signs for Cumberlands on the main road! It would be helpful if the site was properly signposted and/or some mention was made on the website that it's attached to Stravaiger's Lodge.
The lady who got us checked in at reception was friendly enough - when I asked how close our allocated pitch was to the toilet block (I was travelling with someone with limited mobility) she moved us to (and these were her exact words) 'pitch 28 or 29 - whichever one you think is best'.
We initially chose pitch 29 (a grass pitch with EHU) as it was the closest to the toilets, only to be chased off by the man who rides around in the golf buggy! He didn't want our campervan on the grass (fair enough, but we were told to pick our pitch) and then made a point of watching my every manoeuvre while I moved. Not amused and did not appreciate being made to feel as if I was breaking the rules.
The regular 'patrols' by the guy in the golf buggy are a tad excessive in my opinion.
The pitches are level and a good size but the campsite is essentially just a big field and totally lacks atmosphere.
The toilet block was clean.
We paid £3 for wifi that didn't work - reception was awful and made it completely worthless.
The site is handy for walking into Fort Augustus and there are a few ok-ish restaurants nearby.
It's a nice site but overpriced.

Stayed one night on this site. Pitches are large with water and electric.
No water waste disposal at pitches only one point near entrance to site and is the same hole in the ground (literally a piped hole in the ground)as chemical toilet disposal.
Very unhygienic in my opinion. The village, five minutes walk is very, very expensive and clearly designed to extract as much money as possible from tourists.
It is interesting watching the boats navigate the locks but in my opinion not worth the cost of staying on this site.
I would not return

We received a warm and friendly reception upon arrival. The caravan area is behind Stravaigers Lodge.
The first field behind the lodge is for campers without cars and the second field is for caravans, motorhomes and tents with a car. The pich was gravel and quite big.
We had our own water tap on our pitch. There is no shop on site but it is only a 5 minute walk into Fort Augustus.
The toilet and shower block is immaculate. The showers are huge and clean and there is underground heating. The best showers we have come across so far (and this is our 29th site on a round UK tour).
Fort Augustus has lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. The Caledonian canal with its locks are quite a tourist attraction.
It is fascinating to watch when they open the locks to let the boats through.
There is quite a nice walk along the canal towpath to Kytra Lock.

One can see that money has been spent on this two year old site. We had not pre booked and arrived mid afternoon. The young lady at reception was not very helpful and was not interested in making us welcome.
The tents are on the large grass area in the centre with the hard standings around the outside. The toilet/shower facilities are located at the entrance and were not cleaned in the time there!
My wife felt a little vulnerable walking to and from the facilities block. With a modern tiled floor, (slippery when wet) and when having a shower, the shower water was throughout the cubicle and coming through from the cubicle next door, as a result, there was nowhere dry to get dressed!
We didn't see any play area for children.
There was one man riding around in his golf buggy checking each pitch as people left. My wife and I enjoyed our morning coffee watching him drive around from one vacated pitch to the next with out getting out of his buggy.
Nice location and a lot of money spent, but the owners need to stay a night in a tent or caravan them selves to realise the short comings of this site. Attention to detail just not there!

This site is basically a field, there's no warm atmosphere here like you get on other sites. When we arrived we were made to sound stupid when we pointed out the sign at the entrance has the wrong name on it.
The woman on reception was dour. She was quite happy to take our money though! there's a man who constantly drives round on a golf buggy, it made us feel like we were being checking up on
The toilets were clean as were the showers but not enough pressure in them to work sufficiently, no signs that we could see for where to put your rubbish but found a bin when we were leaving.
I think most people just use this site as a stop off point then head elsewhere as most people that had arrived the day after us had packed up and moved on on the day we left.
We were intending staying here for a week and touring the area but after 2 days we left, would I stay here again? no
