Of a 6-week tour of the UK, staying at around 20 sites, this has to be one of our favourites. Chosen initially for its location and its adult-only facility, we found lots more in its favour. Impeccably kept, we loved the small size and friendly welcome; the wardens advised us on dog-friendly walks nearby (there's also an on-site dog walk). Good value for money at £19 per night inc. Hook-up, 2 dogs and free Wi-Fi. Excellent toilet blocks and laundry facilities.

The area (our first visit here) is stunning, the walk to Wimberball Lake beautiful. It's behind a pub but still very quiet, exactly what we were looking for.

Just got back from spending a few nights at this very quiet site. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic views across the Somerset countryside.

The pub at the end of the drive is well worth a visit, a typical country pub that has a good selection of beers A few things to think about before you go.

If you need an electric hook-up take a long lead we were 50m away from the electric point. The free Wi-Fi is very weak it is just like the old dial up internet.

Finally the tent pitches all seem to be on sloping ground.

All in all though it is a very pleasant site.

Our 2nd visit to this site, we did a one nighter at Lowtrow Cross last year.

New warden greeted us as we arrived and showed us to our pitch, I had previously requested in an email if my sister and her husband could have the adjoining pitch next to us for a weekend getaway and they kindly permitted us to do this and put us in a lovely spot up in the corner of the tent field overlooking the valley.

Site very quiet, only one other tent in the tent field so absolute bliss for us for a quiet weekend. I actually prefer the tent field to the main touring area (we were there in our motorhome last year) and the top half of the tent field is level with some EHU. We had HUGE pitches, biggest tent pitches I have seen for some time!

Toilets/showers- again spotless whenever you visited from early morning to late at night. Warden/owner kindly put fan heater on in ladies to 'take the chill off' in the mornings as despite the weather being glorious for March the mornings were nippy!

The pub down the lane was closed the whole time we were there. Raleighs Cross Inn is not too far away - this pub does lovely food. Haddon Hill just up the road is ideal for walking the dog as you're straight onto Exmoor. We drove into Minehead for supplies (brother in law broke his camping chair!) - not too far, roads windy but scenic drive.

If you're into astronomy the night skies on a clear night are fantastic, in fact we had some fellow campers there with a telescope the weekend we were there.

If you're looking for a quiet site in a scenic location but within a drive of the coast you won't go wrong with Lowtrow. Very well looked after park and excellent value for money (£16 a pitch all in with free wi-fi). Not commercialised, not overly big, birdsong & nature, just perfect. We will return again soon.

We have just come back from staying three nights at lowtrow cross campsite, the other reviews are right the site is a little gem.

Kevin and Tina are very friendly anything you need just ask and they will help. There is a shop on site it sales milk, eggs, bread, butter, and other items that you might have forgot.

We stayed in the tent field with EHU the view was brilliant from our tent. We could see nothing but country side. I saw a sparrow hawk coming out of the trees, we had a hedgehog down the side of the tent during the night.

My husband and myself saw the plough in the sky as we walked from the toilets on our first night. I thought this was amazing as I have never seen this before.

The site is lovely and quiet.

The toilets were kept clean, there was a hair dryer, hand soap, and a blow dry hand dryer in the ladies.

My husband said the mens toilets were kept clean, had hand soap and hand dryer the same as the ladies.

The pub on the edge of the site is lovely not bad priced. There is Windball lake five minutes drive away. The views are amazing you will also see the exmoore ponies.

Lyton and lynmouth is a place to visit, also Dunster Castle is well worth a visit for the gardens and inside the castle.

We would return again with pleasure.

Weve just returned from a long weekend here and had a fabulous relaxing time. A wonderful campsite - great wardens, fantastic location, good pub next door, dog friendly, great views, spotlessly clean. This has become our campsite of 2011 and we will definitely be returning.

This is adult only camping at its best - unpretentious, quiet, friendly and a good mix of campers and caravans. A Proper camping site as opposed to tents being an add on to a caravan/static home site which some other adult only campsites tend to do.

The area is wonderful for walking and exploring both Somerset and Exmoor, with some lovely villages nearby - we loved Dunster and Tarr Steps - with lovely river walks (albeit very muddy after the rain - but the dog loved it!).

Thank you.

Carol, Kev and Arnie.

Just spent a week here. A lovely Adults only site set in the midst of rolling Somerset scenery. Just 16 hardstanding caravan pitches, of which at least half are seasonal, as well as a small number of tent pitches in an adjacent field.

Tina and Kevin, the managers, are great, very welcoming and ever helpful. Kevin keeps a close eye on the small 'honesty' shop on site which can provide many of the provisions that you will need. There is also a book exchange facility. Be warned - the site is mobile phone 'blind'!

Pub adjacent to site serves up a good meal - although not cheap (£42 for two of us). Worth trying the Raleigh's Cross Inn some 4 1/2 miles along the B3190. Tuesday is steak night - very good value!

Exmoor is really lovely - rolling hills, seascapes, quaint towns and villages, and lots of wildlife. Several herds of wild ponies near the site, birds of prey overhead and a vast variety of wild plant life to appreciate.

The market town of Dulverton (7 miles) offers a variety of small shops, cafe's and a good farm shop, whilst Minehead has all the trappings of the seaside resort - as well as two large supermarkets. It is also the terminus of the West Somerset Railway - a 20 mile steam train ride along the coast and then inland through pleasant countryside. Definitely recommended!

Many other places and attractions to see. Like us you will want to come back!

Had a great two night weekend stay. Site is really clean, tidy and well kept. The toilet/shower block was spotlessly clean at all times.

There are lovely rural views from the sight and the added bonus of the pub being almost attached to the site! The pub allows dogs. We ate early so we were out before it go too busy; the food was really nice. Some of the menu was pricey, some was good value, really depends on what you fancy.

The campsite reception has a good variety of local leaflets and maps for local walks and attractions.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this site and we hope to return soon.

Really nice site tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Views were stunning and it was lovely and quiet, thanks to the adult only policy.

Wonderful staff who even helped us to put up our awning! Thank you Tina & Kevan!

As it is a sloping site it did take some big blocks of wood to level the van, but once level it was fine.

Very poor for phone and internet reception and was always an issue if you need it.

Pub right next to site served fabulous food and well worth a visit. Shops were a little distance but in a nearby village was a Co-op and an award winning butcher who had amazing produce and shows why we should all use local suppliers.

Facilities were excellent, great showers and plenty of room, spotless and you could see the care taken in cleaning.

Freezer facility for your shopping which I find really useful and cannot understand why more sites do not offer this?

We arrived on a wet Monday lunchtime for a brief stay (we were touring the area in our motorhome). Site set in peaceful, rural area with local Inn serving food at the end of the drive. Easy access to the site from the South (via Bampton).

Warm welcome from the wardens who couldn't do enough for you. Site small but very tidy and well looked after and ideal for a tranquil holiday.

We would have liked to have chosen our pitch but were told where to pitch up, sadly it was looking out towards a pair of statics which would not have been our pick had we been given the choice. Further up the park and on the tent pitches you have a much better view across open countryside.

Shower block was spotless, lovely touch of pump soap by the sinks and really decent hairdryer in the ladies(20p charge). Laundry room and small on site shop - handy for the basics.

Dog friendly, lovely mown paths through the adjoining field which our two enjoyed.

As the previous reviewer mentioned regarding the statics - these are very well priced (even in peak summer periods) so we would recommend these to people who are looking for a rural retreat but within access of the coast.

We would return to this site, especially in nicer weather (we had rain) so that we could stroll to the pub and enjoy a beer or two in the pub garden.

A lovely, peaceful site in a rural setting. Good views of the surrounding hills from the campsite. The farmer in the field at the foot of the site had a novel way of rounding up his sheep, we noticed - he parked up his vehicle, sounded the horn a few times - and they all came running!

There is a tiny little shop on site selling everything necessary, including rather expensive but absolutely delicious locally-made beefburgers - and the offer of a cup of tea on arrival is a nice touch, which always goes down well with us, especially after a long drive.

Friendly, helpful and informative wardens - nothing was too much trouble. The shop is well-stocked with information leaflets, and local walking maps are provided on loan, too.

The showers and toilets were spotlessly clean every time we used them, and there was a communal freezer and laundry room. It was fairly quiet at night.

The free wi-fi dipped in and out of range, unfortunately - it was never connected for long enough to pick up very much on the mobile, but then it's like that on most of the campsites we've visited.

Plenty of space around our tent - though there weren't too many tents in the camping field, we found the pitches would be large enough even if the site was busy. The dog walking area on site is fairly compact, with plenty of paths weaving and criss-crossing through it - and really long tall grass beside the paths, which is great fun for small dogs like ours, as they think they're somewhere different every time

The pub at the entrance to the site served very tasty food; the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly.

We were camped beside the aforementioned ditch for two nights and we had no problems arising from it. We'd certainly visit this site again.
