A lovely site in a lovely location. We were pitched in the tent field with an EHU - nice views looking down the field. Great little dog walk, nicely mown paths so you don't get wet feet!
Perfect area for walking - we did the walk to Wimbleball Lake which is beautiful and other walks along the country lanes from the site. Facilities are spotless and although it was bank holiday no queuing for the showers.
Lovely wardens - chatty and friendly and helpful.

How lovely to be welcomed back like old friends when we returned to Lowtrow Cross last week for our second visit of the year.
The warden, Tina and her husband Kevin are wonderful, full of local advice and ready to help with any possible problem you might have. There are lovely views from the touring field, we had the electric hook up on pitch 4.
The toilets are immaculate, showers nice and hot, although you do have to keep pushing the button to keep the water flowing. There is a small honesty shop on site with all the basics and a bit more. We would love them to be able to get papers delivered too, then there would be no need to go anywhere!
We've been to Lowtrow on two bank holidays now and it never feels crowded. Having the pub at the top of the drive is a bonus, the food is lovely, don't be put off by all the reserved signs on the tables, just ask for a table!
There are so many places within easy reach, our favourite is Hadden Hill, with wild ponies and amazing views. All in all, highly recommended.

What a lovely site ! It really is in the middle of nowhere, very peaceful, very rural, but easy to get to lovely places to walk and cycle and enjoy the beauty of Exmoor.
The site itself is small, with 2 distinct areas, caravans in one, tents in the other. The tent field has EHU along the top edge, non EHU pitches are on the rest of the field.
You are shown to your pitch, you don't just set up where you like. It does mean you are in straight lines which was a shame as there was masses of space available in the field and all the tents were together, but well spaced out. This could have been because there had been a lot of rain and the wardens wanted to keep cars of the grass.
The field does slope, the EHU pitches are pretty flat but the others slope down the hill. Its not too bad but noticeable. Tables are unsteady and we slid down the airbed at night. But it is a small price to pay for the beautiful views. I wish it was possible to post a picture with a review !
The facilities are spotlessly clean. The showers are free, hot, powerful and have ample hooks and a stool and a curtain to pull across to keep dry things dry. Very well thought out ! There is a proper hairdryer (20p)
There are also a laundry room, small shop and washing up area.
The site is dog friendly, the bottom of the camping field is a mown dog walk, which was well used.
The pub next door to the site is very friendly and relaxed. The food was excellent, so was the beer! They allow dogs in the pub.
I agree with others that the site wardens are superb. Friendly, welcoming, helpful but unobtrusive and extremely hard working. They live in a caravan on the site, so are always pottering about, cleaning and chatting.
When we were there the site was only about half full. It was very quiet, both during the day and at night. Its not a site for groups or late night revels. Everyone was there for a peaceful get away from it all, and showed great respect for fellow campers.
We will be back !

Visited the site earlier this year and found it to be an ideal base for visiting the surounding area.
We arrived a little later than expected but the owners were waiting with a welcoming smile. They kept the facilities excellent in spotlessly clean and there was plenty of hot water.
The on site store was well stocked with the basics and use of the freezer and microwave was very handy. The pitch was good with a very slight slope and stone free.
The site is very quite and has great views over the valley when the sun sets. Worth mentioning is the pub by the sites entrance, great food and friendly staff.
Looking forward to our next visit.

My first camping experience was at Lowtrow Cross in July this year having never camped before myself, my husband and our dog had a fantastic 10 day holiday staying at this campsite. The facilities are excellent, showers are spotless and plenty of hot water. The camp wardens were very helpful and very thoughtfully checked that the tent went up ok on our first day, they were always on hand to give advive and knowledge of local area and amenities. The site is well laid out with spacious pitches and wonderful views over farmland. Very peaceful during the day and a very quiet site at night. The pub which is just outside the site has a good selection of local beers and great food and is dog friendly.
Will definitely be returning.

We hadn’t been camping for over 20 years, so when I suggested it to my good lady, she was a little unsure! We have had all the wet camping days with the kids and although I was ready to give it a try, Mrs C wasn’t over happy! We had done our camping, moved on to caravans and then started to book apartments in the south of France about eight years ago!
Looking for sites, we decided that we didn’t want to have a site with a club or play areas so naturally we chose an “Adults Only” site. And enter stage right, Lowtrow Cross Caravan & Camping Site. And what a beautiful site it is. The caravan section is well laid out and includes the shop and shower/toilet facilities. But… As I said we were trying camping again, so we were in the tent field with an electric hook-up.
The field is slightly sloping and has a well made gravel road across the top. Just above this are the Hook-up tent pitches where we pitched. It is flatter, but from the views of other campers, the slight slope is not a problem. At the bottom of the tent field is the dog walking area, but in all the time we were there (one week) we never heard any barking more than twice! The cows/bulls make more noise!
The views are fantastic and although the weather was damp some of the time, it is a wonderful place to stay. There is plenty to do if you are the sort of camper/caravanner that would holiday on Exmoor. Walking and cycling along with some excellent attractions of the “normal” kind! The West Somerset Railway is fantastic and places like Dunster and Minehead are good to visit.
OK, left them till last, but the real jewel in the well deserved crown for Lowtrow are undoubtedly Tina and Kevin! These two are perhaps the best wardens of any site we have visited! Very helpful and friendly, they are also a fountain of knowledge on local places to walk and visit! We arrived in the rain, Kevin made us a cuppa and out came the sun! Thanks to both of you for your help on our first outing!
One last thing… The Lowtrow Cross Inn is attached to the site by way of the drive! The food is fantastic and seems to get site people in every night. Makes for a friendly time and well worth a visit while you are there.

A superb site. Small but perfectly formed as they say.
The shower block was spotless and the food prep / washing area likewise.
I found the staff to be helpful, friendly and more than happy advise on the local area.
The shop was well stocked with essentials at a reasonable price.
The weather was not the best but the tent field held up well. The trench that has been mentioned earlier as an issue wasn’t and I was pitched next to it.
I would be happy recommend this site for those visiting Exmoor.
Having a quiet country pub at the end of the drive was just a bonus.
Would I go back? Yes.

Absolutely gorgeous site. My husband booked for 6 days to do a Transport course in the nearby area and I joined him half way through. Site spotless, very picturesque. Very friendly owner and wardens. Honesty shop was a bonus as it stocked everything you could need. The showers were spotless and heated which we were grateful for as we went in April when it was still cold in the morning and night.
The pub on site was a lovely old traditional country pub and the locals made my husband feel very welcome when he was there alone. The food was extremely pricey though.
I would love to go again. They deserve to be full all year round. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was our second stay at the site and we were blessed with fantastic weather. As has already been mentioned, this is a small, friendly and well run site. The caravan field is the more landscaped, but nearer the adjacent road.
We were in the tent field with a hook up. Our pitch was level although the non ehu pitches do slope slightly. The views are spectacular. The owners are very friendly and the small shop has some basic goods at very fair prices (much appreciated. Facilities are excellent and are kept spotlessly clean. Showers are hot and free!
The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful. If you like walking Wimbleball Lake offers quite a testing 9 mile circular route partly through bluebell woods (be aware, there aren't many seats on the way round). Parking can be found at the activity centre where you can get a snack and cuppa. Dunster is a short drive away from the site with its upmarket tourist shops and excellent National Trust castle.
The adjacent pub is OK but a bit gloomy for us with the weather so warm.
Just two areas for improvement, in our view:
The grass in the caravan field was cut by a rather noisy petrol mower for about 3 hours on the Friday late afternoon, whilst everyone was trying to enjoy the tranquillity! Of course, this is an essential task but perhaps better suited to the middle of the day, when the majority of campers are out and about.
Secondly, the little drainage ditch next to the tent field was a little smelly occasionally and we wondered whether this might be more of a problem during a prolonged spell of hot weather?
All in all though a great little site in a fabulous location.
