A small peaceful site with very good adequate facilities kept very clean, with a small onsite shop selling the basics, also having a freezer was very useful. We were met by a very friendly lady (Helen), who showed us around and explained some of the local attractions.
A pub is situated at the entrance to the site making it easy to locate and very easy to get around the area from here (mind some of the narrow lanes though). All in all we really enjoyed our stay here even if it was more than a little wet!

Really pretty and immaculate site.  Facilities are excellent and the pub which is virtually on site, serves super ales and even better food! (essential to book for food)
Little on site shop was great (with an honesty box). Laundry and wash room facilities were spotless.

Really would highly recommend this site!

The site itself is very nice, very clean and the lady who runs it very helpful. TV reception is bad, but each HU has a lead point for the telly- did not use it, I assume you can hire the leads. Toilets and bins done daily. Walking in the area is great. However, the pub outside is not a pleasant place. We went in there for a pint, and the atmosphere was not very pleasant. A group of locals seemed to send out resentful thought waves, especially after I asked for my pint to be topped up- it needed a good topping as well, and at their prices, they must have lost about 20p!

Hi, we have just come home from a wet week at Lowtrow.
First of all, and VERY important, don't be guided on the last leg of the journey by your sat nav, ours took us off the main road and along some very nasty single track roads, definitely to be avoided!
The site itself is lovely, very small but with generous pitch sizes. Quite a steep slope, I had to put blocks under my jockey wheel and front corner steadies.
For dog owners there is a paddock to walk around, but if you cross the road outside the pub and take the the uphill fork, single track road, about 25 yards on the right hand side there is a gap in the hedge. Go through there and you come out in a meadow, follow it uphill and you are in another meadow, then another and so on. I was told these are owned by the League Against Cruel Sports, and never have animals in so safe to let your dogs off the lead.
Back to the site, the toilet and shower blocks are clean but the heating was turned off so showering was bracing to say the least!
The owners are friendly, the shop is small and normally un-attended. You put your money for your purchases in a tin.
TV reception through the site aerial is good, if you don't have a cable they will lend you one free of charge.
The pub is right outside the entrance, the food there is very good but make sure you book at weekends!

Superb, well kept site.  Well laid out and spacious. Extremely clean toilet blocks.  Fantastic pub, serving good meals on the entrance to the site.  Good walks in the area.  Lovely countryside. For anyone looking for a peaceful location to relax, then this is the site for you.
We will definitely going back.

After reading the reviews we were quite excited about this site. It was only our second time camping and we were really looking forward to meeting new people and being in the unspoilt countryside.

When we arrived we were disappointed that there were no other campers apart from one tent and one caravan. The owner explained there had been a mass exodus following easter.

We had the field to ourselves, the toilet block and showers were spotlessly clean, a credit to the owners. The shop was in the reception and could have done with a few more items however the pub next door was a god send.

The food was of a high standard but the prices were as if you were in London, a bit disproportionate.

Due to the lack of other guests and the fact our gears on our bikes were broken on arrival we decided to only spend the one night.

This site is for those that want to get away from it all. We did but not that much.

A very nice site. Well laid out and friendly. Would recommend this site to anybody who wants a site for adults only. The site is well laid out and the facilities are good. It is very quiet and the owners are very helpful but leave you alone if you don't need anything The local area has some excellent scenery and for walkers its an ideal place to explore Exmore from.

What a gem of a site this is! I am so pleased I didn't read some of the other reviews first, it might have put me off and we would have missed out on a great place to stay, I have already booked another week for us later in the year.

The site is exactly as it says in the brochure, very relaxing in a beautiful and unspoilt area, we chilled out the minute we arrived. The shower block was not ultra modern but perfectly adequate and always spotlessly clean and there was plenty of hot water at any time of the day. The site is small and informal but well maintained by the owners who were friendly and extremely helpful, particularly when it came to places where we could walk our dogs, who definitely give it their wag of approval.

We liked the thoughtful touches, use of a microwave, very useful when camping and the freezer was a godsend, they was even a can opener in case anyone forgot their own. I thought the shop, although small was very well stocked for the size of the campsite, the ice creams were welcome in the heat, the local eggs were really nice and they even had disposable barbecues for sale which was a bonus for us as we hadn't brought ours with us, not expecting a heatwave.

We found the site peaceful and will definitely recommend it to our friends wanting to 'get away from it all' there were some tractors and 4 x 4's but it is rural Somerset and you expect them in the middle of farming country, but to be honest we hardly noticed them.

Finally, we found it really useful having a pub next door and although they do not allow dogs inside it didn't really matter as ours were exhausted by the evening, after their 9 mile walk around lake and more than happy to sleep in the car for a couple of hours while we had a very nice meal in the pub.

We can't wait for our next visit and just hope the weather is as good.

Excellent site, top location, very well looked after pitchs I did not find the slope to be a problem, shower block was OK and nice to see freezer and microwave provided and a self service shop with plenty of goodies.

Main thing to recommend this site is the peace and quiet, Adults only definatly works with everybody on the site for teh same reasons.

Food in the Pub is of a high restuarant standard and is priced accordingly as such it is good value for money, but not cheap.

 June 2005
We booked this adult only site because we wanted peace and quiet with no footballs, frisbees and the like. The other campers were very quiet and obviously looking for a peaceful time as well.

We were camped (in a tent) next to a road which seemed to have an abundance of tractors and 4x4 vehicles travelling in both directions. This spoilt the peace and quiet somewhat.

We had good TV reception with an indoor aerial but for some reason picked up welsh programs. My husband's Orange mobile had a signal but my O2 didn't. We turned the mobiles off anyway but it was nice to know we could ring out in an emergency. We were, after all, in the middle of nowhere!

The shower block and toilets were scrupulously clean, which more than made up for the 'push button' showers. Soap and hand dryers were provided. The water was nice and hot and shower temperature was adjustable. My husband found the shower cubicles rather small while I thought they were fine but that isn't surprising considering the difference in our sizes. :-)

The 'shop' was actually a cupboard full of basic provisions, and a freezer with milk etc. A cash box was provided for campers to pay for any provisions they took. Campers could use the freezer and a microwave was also provided.

The site is not flat, in fact it is entirely on a slope and we were lucky to find a small flat area where we were able to pitch the bedroom part of our tent.

The pub food was delicious but very expensive and we only went once. The pub was also full of very noisy locals, so a quiet meal was out of the question. Apparently, the people camped next to us had used the pub two nights previously and were allowed to take their well behaved dog in with them. The next night a sign appeared outside the pub stating that no dogs were allowed. One of the reasons they booked the site was because they were told that they could take their dog into the pub. There were a couple of other people on the site who were also annoyed about this sudden change. No problem for us though - no dog.

We might go back there, but only if we could be guaranteed the same pitch where we could have the bedroom on the level part of the site
