This is a fantastic campsite with beautiful views of Ramsey Island and sea as well as lovely sunsets.
Having received a warm reception from the site owner we had plenty of room to choose our pitch, as long as you are within the guidelines given to you then you should not have a problem in pitching.
Despite not having Electric hookup we found that we didn't really need it and enjoyed the more rustic camping. The toilet and showers were clean and tidy and the old toilet block seemed to have a charm about it.
If the National trust/Pembrokeshire National Park let the owner realise the potential of this site then the 'potacabins' could be replaced by a nice Barn conversion!.
The mobile shop didn't have a large range of goods but it all adds to the charm of this site.
Our children enjoyed the open space and with some lovely walks close by as well as the lovely St Davids this is a great base to use.
We would thoroughly recommend this campsite and hope to come back again.

We stopped here for two nights whilst attending a family event in St Davids. The site is lovely: two big fields which are fairly level, lots of space, great, great views towards the sea and St Davids head. We had driven 200 miles to get here and felt calm within seconds of arriving.
Highlights: loos and showers were spotless and portable cabin ones free with lots of hot water, owners very relaxed and friendly, 20 minute walk into St Davids along a beautiful footpath.
Any drawbacks were really of our own doing: locking ourselves out of our campervan (small child assisted us with this one) and having to go home so quickly.

This site is well positioned for the coastal path and the town of St Davids.
There is a foot path from the site to the town takes about 30 mins
The fields are well cared for and the toilet facilities are of a good standard and plentiful.
The best of all is the magnificent view from the site in the morning light with no light pollution at night and all this for only £6 a night. Will return in the autumn
The site is easy to find and the people that run the site really do care about you

First time camping with a group of girlies and offsprings would it hit all my expectations? YES! The farm site was lovely with a real family atmosphere and we pitched opposite the sea giving a stunning view to wake up to, plus an unbelievable wind - holding up at tent in the early hours of the morning just added to the whole camping experience! Great position next to the harbour with endless crab races to be had, proper old fashioned adventures waiting to happen.
Facilities fine, splashed out extra 20p for showering with a door and hooks, well worth it. All toilets etc constantly being cleaned, and lady owner helpful.
The visits of the milkman / bbqman / bakerman / fruit veg man - actually only one man was a bonus, no need to hit the supermarket unless absolutely necessary, vey chatty and helpful, even knowing the local curry house telephone number!
A great place to step out of the real world for a week.

Just returned from 5 days stay here. Was supposed to be 8 but we couldn't take the wind any longer!
This site is in a beautiful location, overlooking the sea and a lovely inlet which was great for crabbing and kayaking. It's also right on the coast path.
There are 5 big fields and lots of space. But this site was very windy and quite honestly it felt like a bit of an ordeal and not much like a holiday! Long walk to the toilet block which was basic, and no washing machines / dryers ( and as far as we could tell there was no launderette in St David's). Owner's comments: We cannot do anything about the position of the toiler block the National Park will simply not allow us to have one in the field nearest the coast path, but we encourage our customers to bring toilet tents as we do not charge per tent only per person. We try very hard to keep our prices low and if you want washing machines and tumble dryers then you must choose the more expensive campsites. There ARE laundry facilities in St Davids which we would have recommended, but we are always willing to do laundry for customers in an emergency.
MJ's dairies visit each am /pm with milk, bread etc and a smile. Lovely location but this site is very exposed.
We spent the whole week eating inside, it was just too bleak to be out.

This campsite blew us away! It felt right from the left turn up the lane to the reception area. It was great to arrive at a campsite with lots of space and an option to pitch where you wanted (as long as you were 6m away from nearest unrelated tent). The views of the whole of the area were fantastic especially out to Skomer Island. With prolific crabbing a 5 minute walk away my children (well all of us actually) were easily amused each evening (I would recommend sand eels over bacon).
The site comprising of 5 fields and a total of 24 acres was clean and many signs for dogs to be kept on leads were obeyed by virtually all of the campers present. The site was quiet by 11 each night and one group were moved on the moring we arrived due to not adhering to this. The campsite owner is very friendly but is not a person to be crossed and this ensures that the campsite is perfect for a quiet family time and not ruined by raucous groups. The facilities were basic and fine and none of us (1 Dad, 2 daughters under 4 and Mum) had to queue for more than 5 minutes in a 14 day stay. The winds (as stated elsewhere in other reviews) were gusting up to 45 mph and whilst not making for a couple of easy nights sleep did more than enhance my book 'Endurance' about Shakleton's struggles!
One other fantastic bonus was Mark and his morning and evening MK dairy van round. Once his horn had beeped there was a range of products from pain au chocolait to galaxy muffins, bags of salad to prime sirloin steak, organic rolls to hot baked potatoes as well as the obvious dairy products (he even offered to bring as papar if it was needed). Along with sales were occasionally dubious weather forecasts, tourist information and general good chats.
The local area has more than adequate facilities, St Davids has a good supermarket, Bellmont House is very reasonable for camping essentials, crabbing bait, fishing kit, touristy stuff.Cambrian Inn Solva served great food and were incredibly accomodating, further afield for rainy younger children days we went to Folly Farm and Blue Lagoon both good value for money and allowed us a good day out (albeit commercial and in need of a deep breath on entry).
This is a basic but beautiful campsite with fantastic natural facilities all aroud. If you want more toilets, bigger showers, shops play areas etc. Then maybe it is not the site for you, it is the basic nature with no frills that keeps it fantastic. We will be back for sure, perhaps in a more sheltered spot.

This was our second visit to Porthclais was last there two years ago and it was nice to know that things hadn't changed much except there are now portacabins added as toilet and shower blocks. It's a good job too as there were much more people there than there was last time. The toilets and showers were OK but at times got dirty due to a bad couple of days weather. The usual high winds made pitching a tent difficult but we achieved this eventually and fortunately for us our tent (Outwell Arizona XL) stayed up throughout our 5 night stay.
As usual St David's continues to impress with it's laid back vibe and there are plenty of places to visit as have been mentioned on previous reviews.
I would like to take the opportunity while I'm here to thank the man who threw a wet towel over our back up cooker on the morning we were decamping saving the propane cylinder going up as our table collapsed causing a brief moment of panic. Will be going back again - no doubt.

Porthclais Farm is a lovely campsite with stunning views.
My booking was handled very efficiently and we were welcomed with a smile. Ice packs can be hired for 20p which was exceptionally reasonable.
We loved the fact that the site is so open and there are no pitches marked out - this gives it a very relaxed atmosphere.
The dairy service provided by MJ Dairies in the morning and evenings was superb - by far the most buttery croissants we have ever tasted! He was also very positive about the coming weather after a windy night!
The walk along the footpath into St Davids took about 15 minutes and the Farmer's Arms is the best place to go for a drink in the early evening sun. Newgale and Whitesands Beaches are well worth driving to for some surf.
We are looking forward to returning next year.

Just returned from 4 nights at Porthclais. Our first visit here, but would definitely return. I am quite a fussy camper so it must be ok!
Good points: A nice, easy walk into St Davids, where we visited the cathedral and had cakes etc. In the refectory. Recommended. Close to Porthclais Harbour which the children (10 & 7) loved for crabbing. Easy driving distance of Whitesands Beach, which did get very busy. Good for body-boarding. Mobile van with a very friendly man called Mark calls at the site morning and evening, invaluable. Lovely jacket potatoes hot from the oven. Plenty of toilets and I saw them being cleaned many times, so I have to disagree with the last review re dirty showers. Field nearest the toilets and the one behind are flat. Loads of room for children to play with kites etc.
Bad points: If pitched in the further fields would have quite a walk to the facilities. Some people were driving up. Won't freeze your ice-packs, have to use theirs and pay 20p per freeze. Not too keen on the showers in the portakabin (not communal as stated previously) there is a door that separates men and ladies, but still not very private. Owner's comments: ALL our showers now have private changing and all are individual mains electric showers; the shower block has been upgraded for this year as have the toilet facilities. BUT if you want the Ritz then you must go elsewhere. We try to keep prices as low as possible and provide basic clean facilities for those who really enjoy fresh air and good old fashioned camping.
All in all a good site, we would return and it is in a beautiful part of the country.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Porthclais. We were blessed with sun all week and only minor wind (compared to other reviews!) We loved the fact that we were situated right on the coast path and made the most of this most of the week. St Davids itself is rather expensive but for a special treat Cwtch restaurant is gorgeous! MJ's dairies ( a man in a van selling breakfast supplies etc) was a brilliant service and we used it most mornings to buy our milk, bread and bacon.
Maybe it would be a better idea to put the large groups of campers in the same field and have a quiet camping field. Some of us burn the candle at opposite ends!
I only used the 20p showers in the toilet block, which were hot and lasted long enough. I didn't like the idea of the more 'open' showers in the portacabin. The showers and toilets were mostly clean, although I did choose my time to shower carefully, once they had just been cleaned! They are very relaxed about adding days on to your stay, I suppose they have to be because of the weather.
The washing up facilities were limited to only 3 sinks which seemed a bit insufficient for such a large site.
It was also possible to hire freezer blocks for £1 and get them re-frozen for 20p. They wouldn't however re-freeze your own blocks.
All in all a fab site and we will most definitely be returning!
