A great site for minimal car use. There is a footpath to St Davids and direct access to the coast path for walking and to fish at Porthclais harbour from the jetty. Also could walk to the next bay for beach and swimming (though a 20 min trek). Lots of space even at a busy time. Kids were flying kites. The fishing was especially fun - I surprised everyone by catching my first 4 fish in one go! Clean facilities though a bit of a queue at busy times. Useful supermarket in St Davids and lots of cafes and shops for browsing. A drama festival in August each year gives extra entertainment.

This campsite has great potential and I would highly recommend it. Facilities are to be upgraded soon but are adequate at the moment. Place to wash wetsuits was handy. We took small children even though close to cliffs site well fenced and very safe. Absolutely stunning views and close walks nearby.
There were some noisy campers but the campsite owner was quick to nip this in the bud early in the evening.
All in all a good family site.
We didn't take our boat this time but would consider this site in the future since would work out well.

We stayed here 20th-27th August 2008. There's lots of good things about this site, so here goes:
Great location. Right on the coastal path & next door to Porth Clais harbour which has a local bus stop for the very cheap 'Celtic Coaster' service which connects St.David's & main attractions in the area. It's just under a mile walk to St.David's (via road), or slightly longer by coast path or path through the fields. 2 hours beautiful coastal walk to St.Justinians (where you can get excellent boat trips around Ramsey Island).
Note: The Farmers Arms in St.Davids is a great pub. Good food, 3 real ales, friendly staff & locals & an excellent beer garden with Cathedral views.
Back to the campsite now.
Loads of space & nearly all flat fields. Choice of either pitching far away in a distant corner or nearer the facilities.
Really handy freezing block service (£1 deposit & 20p per re-freeze).
I think we may have been unlucky, but do watch out for the wind. Make sure your tent is up to it, or it'll end up in bits in the bins like the ones we saw the following morning. We survived, but in hindsight pitching against one of the many walls dividing the fields may have helped (but those prime spots had been taken - it was peak season).
The facilities. There could be more of them, but they were cleaned daily. August Bank Holiday saw big queues, but I guess this may have been peak demand? I heard rumours that a new block is planned for next year, which will really help.

Just come back from Porthclais and had a brilliant time, the site was great, the weather [best not too mention it]. This was our first proper family camping holiday and would definitely return. Toilets and showers good though quite a walk from lower fields. Did get very windy but our lack of experience and my desire for a sea view meant we didn't pitch close enough to the hedge, will know next time.

Our booking was a last minute job so were grateful to find anywhere at short notice. We weren't expecting to find a great campsite. We were wrong - this place was amazing - the views from the campsite are out of this world. We stayed for 4 days had a fantastic time. Site has great access to Pembrokeshire coast national park and only few mins walk to St Davids.
The site was extremely clean and tidy. The owners were really helpful. We loved the fact that most of the campers kept loads of space between tents (minimum 6 metres). Washroom areas were spotless during the trip.
I would definitely stay here again. The best campsite I have ever been out and would strongly recommend to anyone visiting west Wales.
St David's = 15 mins walk
Whitesands beach = 10 mins drive
Newgale beach = 15 mins drive
Solva = 10 mins drive
OK but as previous users have said, make sure your tent is firmly pegged-in. It is pretty windy in the front field.

This site has a great setting on the cliff side overlooking the sea - very beautiful!
It's right on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (within the Pembrokeshire National Park), so great for walkers - and we saw lots of interesting wildlife. St David's is a mile or so away - a very easy flat bike ride - although be prepared for hills if you want to go further afield!
The site is very laid back - no marked out pitches or any similar fussiness. This was reflected in the clientèle - whilst there were lots of kids about, and a wide range of ages, we experienced no noise problems, and had a very relaxing time.
The main toilet/shower block is showing its age, and flip-flops are recommended for showering - they cost 20p in this main block. In the height of the season, they also use an additional portaloo block for the ladies and portaloo shower blocks for both ladies and gents - although we found that whilst they were very clean, both water pressure and temperature were erratic and unpredictable.
Although St David's is technically a city, it is more like a very small town. It's picturesque with a few cafes, a couple of pubs and a good sized grocery store. There's a good tourist information shop very close to the city centre - and we found the staff very helpful.
If they manage to crack the little niggle about the toilet and shower facilities, this will be a highly recommended site!
Owner's comment: We have now solved the problems with the showers and each shower is now an individual electric shower!

I really love this quiet campsite. It is such a shame that some idiots try to spoil the quiet for others. Thankfully the owners stand no messing and sort out problem campers very quickly and fairly. This site has been updated with fabulous hot free showers that are open between 7am and dusk. There are other showers for 20p after that time. Margaret does a brill job in keeping the showers and toilets clean. The owners are so helpful my son really appreciated the phone charging facility. This is one of the best campsites i have stayed on. There is even a guy who comes round every morning selling all the basics milk eggs bacon etc.

Stayed here for 12 nights in June, windy spot but then it was a particularly windy 12 days so probably not usually such a problem. They do allow large groups but even the group of 16 year old boys there for a week were no problem at all. Site mainly used by walkers and surfers.
The very best thing about this site is the amazing cleanliness of the facilities. Margaret who is responsible for the cleaning of the shower/toilet blocks does a fantastic job, she thoroughly cleans all areas twice a day, she is even there before most people are thinking of climbing out of their sleeping bags! Thanks Margaret.
Site owner visits twice a day, facilities for hiring freezer blocks (£1 dep 20p per freezing)and disposable barbeque stands. Mobile phone/camera battery recharging also available. Plenty of free showers from 7am til dusk, 20p showers available thereafter. 30p tokens available to use electric point for hairdryer in ladies block.
Plenty of water taps but no electrical hook up that we noticed. Lovely site.

We spent 4 nights here. The weather was mixed but lots of sunshine in between the gales and rain. Make sure your tent can handle wind!
The showers and toilets were ample and beautifully clean - but the free showers were only open 7am until dusk. 2 Dishwashing sinks provided and 2 drinking water points. These are a long way off if you camp in the bottom field but the scenery is breathtaking as you walk back to your tent.
You are asked to leave at least 20 metres between tents - so no overcrowded feel.
We found the owner very pleasant and helpful. A group camped in the wrong field, let their dogs loose to foul the campsite and played music until 2.15 in the morning and she dealt with them firmly and politely, though they were not happy to be advised of campsite etiquette.
It is a quiet, beautiful site and most respect and enjoy only the sounds of nature. Don't come if you want to party into the night.
We kayak and the porthclais estuary is just down the road; Solva only minutes away. We had a great time.

Porthclais is THE best campsite in the world.
Classic site where you have to make your own fun, ie, no pool, no shop, no arcades, etc, just loads of open space for your kids to run around. Don`t forget your crablines for crab hunting sessions when the tide is coming in at the harbour wall. I`ve been at this site for the last 30 yrs and the only thing that has changed is the new shower and toilet blocks.
