Once in a while you meet some really special people, this happened to us when my wife and I booked 2 nights at Westgate
Carr farm.
We have just returned to camping after many years absence, so we thought we would book a couple of nights somewhere not too far away and a small family site not one of the big sites.
This turned out to be one of my better decisions.
When we arrived we were met by Karen one of the owners, she was very friendly and welcoming, we were shown where our pitch was so we parked up the camper and started to put up the awning, now I am not the healthiest of people and was puffing a little then to my surprise Karen asked her son Josh to help us with the awning which he did very quickly, we were very grateful, thank you Josh.
Nothing is too much trouble for Karen David and Josh plus Josh's sister who's name I don't know.
The site is spotlessly clean the toilets and showers are new and super clean.
The farm itself has some wonderful animals like Alpaca Donkeys Peacocks chickens fresh eggs and some geese etc.
There are some lovely walks and plenty of piece and quiet.
Stayed 2 nights and on the second night at teatime a lady drove into the site with homemade pie and mash mushy peas gravy and then a pudding for afters, this food was all homemade and was delicious.
Thank you Karen Dave Josh and your sister for making our comeback to camping so special, you have a beautiful farm and camp site and you certainly know how to run it with all of your hard work and dedication. You made us both feel special and we can't wait for our 7 night return in May that we Booked on leaving.
See you all soon, Colin &. Pat

Stayed at this site on many occasions over the last 4 years, the last visit being 2nd-5th September 2016. The site has large level pitches with electric hook up new shower block and dish washing area. The owners are very friendly and always willing to help you, the site is a pleasant walk down a country lane from Pickering about 25 mins, the site is very quite with only occasional farm traffic going past, on the farm there are Alpaca's, Donkey`s, Peacocks, Horses, and Chickens fresh eggs available. We love this site and our grand daughter loves to come and stay when possible

Had a fantastic 2 weeks here at Westgate, it has become our regular site and love visiting. We cant speak more highly of Karen and Dave the site owners along with the Children or not so young children now Josh and Hannah. They are all there on hand whenever needed and help make the stay even more enjoyable. If your looking for a quiet friendly stay with easy access to local North yorkshire villages this is the one. If we could give it higher than 10/10 we would do but since we cant then its 10's across the board. Our only regret is that we wont be back now until next year now boohoo :(

Had a three night stay at this site and must say we were very happy with the layout and the amenities although the new toilet block is still to be finished. Two porta loos are available and are kept in a clean condition and new pot washing up area is complete.
Lovely circular walk around the site, again well tended/grass cut and no litter about. Fresh eggs for sale at the farm house and peacocks, hens, geese, horses, donkeys and alpacas to say hello to.
We will return, thanks Karen & David for a great stay X

I have never posted a review for anything before but felt I just had to say how brilliant Westgate Carr Farm is. Being new to caravanning we wanted to try somewhere in the country but still close to a small town so that we had all the usual amenities if we needed them. Westgate fits the bill perfectly. Just a mile or so from the centre of Pickering but you have countryside in every direction for as far as the eye can see. The country walk around their fields and down by the Costa Beck is so calming that my wife has to keep telling me to keep up with her and the dog ! Karen, Dave and their children are so friendly and welcoming, with nothing too much trouble. We like it so much we now keep our caravan here on a pitch and store arrangement so we can just drive up and they have already set it up on a pitch for us. Fantastic. We can’t wait to go back again.

Site is accessed down 1 mile single track lane with passing places but very quiet road so no problems. Easy 30 min walk into Pickering. Friendly welcome. Good sized field for campers but we were put on hardstanding area next to farmyard as owner had to let tents on the field - not so pleasant sitting outside on concrete but not much we could do about that. We had booked in expectation of all facilities being up and running but sadly they weren't. One male and one female toilet in edge of field - always clean but towel gets rather wet with lots of use. Single family shower available for whole campsite though there will be more when full block opens. Cost for shower is £1 for 6 mins but also have push button on tap control so thought this was a bit overkill. Chickens free ranging and eggs for sale if wanted - be aware that does mean chicken poop everywhere. Donkeys in field immediately adjacent and they are very loud when they bray - we live in the country so are used to farm noise but at 5. 30 am every morning it was not a peaceful start to the day (along with the cockerels, geese and peacocks!). So in summary it is in a good location, facilities will be good once finished but I do wonder how many repeat visitors they will get once you have been woken up so early every morning.

We've just spent two nights at Westgate Carr Farm and will recommend it to everyone. It's so peaceful, beautiful scenery and lovely animals. We fed apples to the donkeys and had eggs for lunch straight from the hen house. Delicious. At dusk, Hubby went for a stroll and saw an owl, Fox, Swan and a hedgehog without specifically looking. Dave and Karen are lovely, friendly people who are happy to help. The shower and toilets were spotless which is always a bonus. Our boys came away happy with a peacock feather each! If you're looking for a beautiful, friendly, quiet place, this couldn't be better. Thanks to Dave and Karen for making us feel so welcome.

What a gem of a site, we stayed for three nights. This was our first ever outing with a caravan & we are so pleased we choose to come here. Karen quickly responded to our enquiries that we made via email re booking etc and on arrival we were given a warm welcome by Dave the owner. So glad we didn't let the fact the shower block was not completed yet put us off. Rebooked for a week later on in the year but will be visiting for weekends well before. Love the fact that this site is so quiet & peaceful and love all the animals and a baby donkey was born whilst we were there. Two supermarkets close by to get some shopping so no need to take everything with you. Although we didn't buy any you can get fresh eggs from their hens. Will deffo be trying them next time.

Just returned from a two night stay at Westgate Carr fm, We received a lovely welcome from Dave, Karen and family. As the previous review said we were left to pick our own pitch and also said we could go in forward to have the view of the Alpacas, Donkeys, sheep and the scenery through the front window. Also as previously said the dog walking area is second to none even if you have no dog it’s well worth a walk round. There is male and female Toilet and washbasin in a cabin which is always clean. Dave told us he is just waiting for the floor to dry in the new toilet and shower block so he can tile the floor, looks a well thought out design. It’s a good location and very peaceful. We will return soon

Really lovely site, ideal for campers that enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, set at the end of a mile long lane (plenty of passing places)you turn into the site to be greeted by a collection of chickens ducks peacocks plus a herd of alpacas. After looking in at reception we were allowed to choose our own pitch. At the moment this is a site under new management who are working really hard to complete New refurbishment. We New before we booked that their wasn't any showers ready but the toilets and washand basins were spotless. If you can accept this it is well worth a visit. The dog walk was the best I've ever been on border on one side by a fast flowing trout stream the other by open fields, we saw plenty of wild life pheasants. Ducks rabbits hares buzzards otters if your lucky enough. At the moment a undiscovered gem of a site, deft a return visit
