Facilities excellent with extremely clean toilet/shower block and lots of hot water although it is a bit of a trek if you are at the bottom end of the site (a smaller block in this area would be welcome). Another disadvantage of being at the bottom end of the site is that you are open to the elements and not protected from the wind by the trees growing on the rest of the site (try to avoid pitches T1, T2 & T3 plus those opposite). One consolation is that these pitches are quite large and, apart from the 'open' tent pitch area, most pitches are substantial.
Plentiful electric hookups (we had 2 on our pitch!). Reception staff very helpful as were the staff in the bar and shop. The children's playground was impressive with something for every age group.
Both Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are within easy walking distance and there is a decent pub just up from the cove. The Castle Inn in West Lulworth is well worth a visit with good food and real ale direct from the barrel.
From the site there is a nice 2 mile walk across the countryside to East Chaldon where you will find the Sailors Return which serves very good food & drink. Bus services are limited but are very cheap (£1.30 single to Dorchester, 11 miles away!) & if you book over 1 hour in advance they will pick up at campsite entrance. Would not hesitate to recommend or visit this site again.

We (2 adults) stayed here for a weekend in June (Friday & Saturday nights).
The location is excellent, a very short walk to the beach and reasonably easy to find from the directions given on the website.
We camped in the wooded area which is very picturesque, however we did find the birds very noisy and messy, so might try the open area next time!
The onsite pub was nice, we had good food and local beer on the Saturday night, plus live music. The shop was a bit expensive but that's to be expected.
Facilities were excellent, no queues for toilets or showers, both of which were very neat and clean. Dishwashing facilities were good, and there was even a freezer for ice packs!
All in all a very enjoyable stay, definitely recommended.

Just returned from a three night break at DD- only intended to stay for two nights, but after our first night decided to extend the break. What a great place! It was pretty quiet when we were there, we decided to pitch in the open field. The wooded area seemed more busy and felt a bit cramped, it's a slim strip of wooded grass, with a gravel track running through the centre. The open field is quite large and surrounded with a hedge, with static caravans on the other side.
The toilets and washing up facilities are at the top of the field, but there are no showers here. You need to go out of the bottom of the field and round the corner to find those, which is not too much of a walk. They are a bit out of date though, although they are free, so I didn't mind. Just a loose curtain in front, with a shower head mounted in the ceiling of the cubicle. Not really anywhere to hang anything, once you are in there, so I just used the shower curtain pole.
The shop is really good, though a bit pricey, as you would expect, and the bar is not too bad either. We had a meal there one night and thought it was just typical cheap pub grub.
The location is stunning. You can walk down to Durdle door and man of war beaches from the park, but it is one heck of a walk back up, so be prepared. It's all on man made steps cut into the cliff, which do get steep and narrow in places, but no one seemed to mind me taking it nice and slow! We even saw some brave souls carrying push chairs up and down them! You can also walk over the hill to Lulworth cove, which is lovely, and get yourself a nice cream tea!
All in all, we walked a lot, ate a lot, sun bathed a lot, swam a bit and had a superb time. Will be going back!

Stayed here over a very hot long weekend at the end of May 2009. First impressions favourable other than the price of the stay (£20 per night for a tent!) The 'wooded area' is a thin strip of very shaded trees with a track running through it. Unfortunately there are no marked pitches for tents anywhere. The result is that people then pitch/park as inconsiderately as possible to prevent others pitching nearby (chaos)
We eventually went to the open camping area, where despite the 'no ballgames' rule in the blurb, we were plagued by the football and yelling of a large group of kids, as their parents observed from behind their beer cans.
At 04.00 the next day the several hundred resident crows who survive on discarded food, started their noise. This racket will continue unabated during daylight hours and unless you have a soundproof tent, you will be awake at the same time as the crows.
The shop is very overpriced and limited choice is available. I didn't go to the bar but in fairness it looked ok.
The showers that I used reminded me of the facilities in 'Bad Lads Army.' No amount of white paint can disguise reinforced concrete blockhouses!
The area is very attractive as is the coastline, however the lack of any competition nearby limits improvement.
Nice area. Disappointing site

First time here for nearly twenty years, site has changed 100%. Great location very helpful and pleasant staff plenty of toilets and showers which were free, washing up area very spacious with plenty of sinks. Durdle door just a short walk from the site and lulworth cove about 5mins drive from camp. Beautiful area with plenty of coastal walks etc. Will definitely return next year .

My Brother and I stayed at this site for a Kayaking weekend. It is located above man o war beach and Durdle Door. If you have good weather it is an ideal location for the beaches without needing the car. There is a nice club house serving food, small shop and very helpful reception. There are 3 touring fields, 1 for tents only in a wooded area, an open field for tents and vans and the sea view (which we had). The sea view pitches are described as gently sloping! This is a bit inaccurate and you will need a ram for your near side wheel in order to level your van up. Be warned that the sea view pitches actually face a public car park which could pose a bit of a security issue for you. Also the traffic for the car park travels through the camp site and, on a nice day, gets very busy.
The shower blocks leave a little to be desired and even though one was described as the 'new' shower block they looked quite old and tired. There are lots to do in the local area as it is near to monkey world, The Tank Museum, Weymouth and Portland Bill. I will definitely book a long weekend with the family next year but I will buy a wheel ramp and probably use the shower in the van. The view from the van was superb on a clear day. If kayaking is your thing there are lots of small rocky bays and caves to explore along the coast line.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found this site to be one of our favourites. Right on top of Durdle Door and although a steep walk back up the hill, well worth it for the view! Would have loved to have booked a sea pitch, but way too windy and we had already lost one awning a few nights previous! We didnt sample the restaurant or shop so cant give you an opinion on those as we used local grocers and butchers to get our essentials. However we did go to the onsite pub and try the Kingston Press Cider on tap. Very nice, but very strong!
Met a load of people at the pub, some touring and some who have statics and found everyone to be really friendly. Great campsite and would love to visit next time the weather was on our side! The big dryers came in very handy as we had some damp washing that I couldnt get dry, a token was £1 for 16 mins drying and got everything nice and dry on setting 2. The only real downside was the showers were super hot and wouldnt seem to turn down no matter what way I turned the dial, and I even tried another one. So be careful!

Stayed here for 3 days during our kids Easter holidays (different to Dorset this year). Unfortunately very windy during our stay. We managed 2 nights on a pitch overlooking the sea but it was very exposed and we had to move in near the trees for the third night after one of our awning poles broke. A shame as the views are fantastic.
A fairly steep trek down to Durdle door but well worth it. We also did the walk over the hill to Lulworth Cove - again well worth it.
The facilities were good as was the shop. We bought a whole roasted chicken from the bar one night which was great!
Our kids enjoyed the very extensive play area although this wasn't very near the touring area.
Very pretty area with plenty to do. Good for walking and exploring the Jurassic coast.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this site. Its in a superb location for the beach if you don't mind a bit of a trek down the steep path - I personally like it as its serves as a kind of natural selection in that Chav's with beer and stereos don't like to walk far!
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The bar food was excellent which surprised us as on the face of it its a fairly basic looking bar. We went out one night to the Sailors Return nearby which claims to have been in the Egon Ronay Guide (1994! That should have been a clue, so it was good 14 years ago) and were very disappointed with quality of service and food - we ordered well done steak and got rare. Anyhow, my point is that the onsite bar did superb food served up by friendly happy staff.
We camped under the trees which was fine although those neared the loos had clearly been bombarded as per earlier comments. The fact that the wooded area is also a public footpath didn't bother us as everyone using it seemed friendly enough and we didn't really notice as to whether they were campers or not.
We visited Lulworth Castle which is a couple of miles down the road and were really impressed. We have two toddlers and they really enjoyed it. The jousting show was a lot of fun.
A lovely site, highly recommended.

Second time I've stayed here and with good reason. The price of a pitch is reasonable at £16 and the facilities are of a good (though not high) standard. The bar on site is a welcome addition, especially when the weather closes in. The prices are OK and the food is excellent, they even do pizza to take away if you're having withdrawal symptoms.
Shop is well stocked, with fresh local produce delivered each morning. Staff however, were scruffy students and took no interest or evident pleasure in their job. This was a shame as last year the adult staff were very friendly and the shop received more custom from us as a result.
Pitching under the trees is to be avoided. We did last time and the tent by the end of the holiday was polka-dotted with crow's ****. Not very pleasant. This year we pitched at the furthest end and were untroubled by birds. I did get 'strafed' sitting outside the bar though but they say it's meant to be lucky.
We'll be going again and can recommend the site in less busy periods.
