This was our first experience camping with the kids, and the site was ideal. The location was idyllic. We camped on the Eypeside and had plenty of space. This part of the site is on a hill, but nothing too dramatic and we were able to survive on a slight slope for a few days. We'd been warned about the rooks in the woodland site, and I'm glad we listened.you could hear them from where we were, and I wouldn't have wanted to be sleeping under them! The shower and toilet blocks were clean enough, although a little tired. The wash-up facilities were excellent, really clean and we never had to queue. Plenty of hot water too. Had a bit of a wait for a washing machine, and it was hardly worth it as our stuff wasn't particularly clean afterwards, but that was a small gripe in the grand scheme of things. The onsite shop was excellent, stocking all the bits we'd forgotten and some nice local produce. The bar looked good, and we used the takeaway one night which was ideal. On the whole, a really positive experience. The campsite and surrounding countryside provided everything we needed for a short break with the kids. We'll certainly go back.

Just spent two weeks here. Magnificent sea views across to Portland, and only a few miles from Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole, Swanage Bournemouth and Wareham. 2 minute drive to Lulworth Cove or you can walk over the cliff path if you're fit. Durdle Door beach itself is a spectacular site with the cliff formations and clear water - you could be in Greece. The steep walk back from the beach is a real challenge. We were blessed with excellent weather. There is a good pub / restaurant on site along with a reasonable mini supermarket / shop. You need chocks to level your caravan, but this was not a problem. We would go again.

Excellent facilities. The toilets and showers were very clean with plenty of hot water. We stayed on an electric hookup pitch which was massive, enough space for six of our tent. There is a well stocked shop and a bar also on site. You can get to the beach within a 10 to 15 minute work and is well worth the effort. The staff are very pleasant and happy to help with a good level of information given to you on arrival. We shall definitely be back next year.

July 2005 Durdle Door campsite is located in a very picturesque part of the south coast, partway between Bournemouth and Weymouth.
The campsite itself is part of the Lulworth Estate, and is sited within 1/2 a mile of Durdle Door and its cove. The site is predominantly static caravans with a couple of areas for camping and 1 area for touring caravans.
We were under canvas during what would be the first weekend of the school holidays. the site is generally well maintained, with the ladies toilets and shower facilities passing muster (so I was told). The mens facilities were always clean but some DIY was needed as a couple of shower cubicles were without locks and a toilet had a broken seat, but otherwise the facilities were good clean and warm, and very little in the way of morning congestion.
The site has a fenced off adventure play area for children which proved very popular with our 3 niece's and nephew. The play area is right down by the main entrance, so it can be a trek from other areas of the campsite. The site has a very well stocked and maintained shop which is attached to a pub / restaurant which has a good range of food available to eat in or take away with you. The beer wasn't bad either.
There are two areas allocated for tents. One is a quite noticeably sloping hillside, and the other is under a number of large trees which runs down towards the public carpark for Durdle Door. We decided to camp under the trees, rather than on the hill. Being close to the carpark wasn't a problem at all and we didn't notice it much. We struggled to find a relatively flat piece of ground to camp on, and yes the crows that nest in the trees can be quite noisy in the morning!
The geography of the area is quite hilly and has some very nice (and popular) walks. If you find hills difficult, but want to walk bare this in mind. Additionally, the walk down to Durdle Door is down a steep hill, and then down some very steep and narrow steps.
In summary the site is very nice, clean and well maintained, but camping was quite pricey. We have stayed on simialrly maintained and run sites for almost £5 a night less, but all in all a good site.

June 2005 This site benefits from being the only site in the vacinity of Durdle Door and Lulworth. The facilities are good, not exceptional but personally I have always thought that the site is expensive (£16.50 a night low-mid season). The wooded area sounds nice but means that your tent gets covered in crow poo. The best pitches are at the end of the wooded bit nearest to the sea and car park. Fewer trees = fewer bird poo stains. It's actually a very static van dominated site and the camping is not the main business interest, although they have recently built more brick barbecue areas.
There seems to be no control over parties and late night noise. We unfortunately pitched opposite a group of about 5 tents who were loud and singing until 2am. You get the impression that the site is very commercially focused and that their primary interest is getting in the money rather than promoting camping eticate.
The immediate local area is stunning and the walk to Lulworth is short and enjoyable.
I will go back because of how nice the area is but if I could camp else where nearby, I would. If you're in to commercial sites then go for it, it's just that personally I prefer something a little more individualistic and considerate camper based.
You have to try the seafood hut in Lulworth, it's sublime. The 7 stars does excellent bar meals.

August 2004 Nice site, good facilities - free ice block freezer at own risk - site bar with food - clean toilet and shower blocks - on-site shop has basics - launderette kept clean. The weather spoiled it a bit (very noisy in woodland pitches when windy). Nice walk to Lulworth Cove (but hilly as its along the cliffs). Would recommend it.

July 2004 We camped in the wooded area, which is not as level as the field, so I'm told, but was worth it just for the ethereal mist amongst the trees and the guttural croaking of birds (crows?) in the early morning.

July 2004 Well I cannot say a bad word about the place. It was our first time camping, we went with 2 other couples and it was absolutely fantastic. The weather was absolutely beautiful so made it all the more enjoyable. Toilets and showers were absolutely fine and the other girls and I quite like our home comforts! The only advice I would give is if you are planning on taking those disposable BBQ's take a couple of Bricks with you! Otherwise you will have nothing to sit them on if you are planning on cooking near your tents, they do however have brick built BBQs but they are away from your tents etc so you will to carry all your food and bits over to them and then bring them all back etc. The scenery is AMAZING! felt like we were in Greece! Another piece of advice take 'beach shoes', not flipflops either as Durdledoor is a pebble beach! We all had the same beach shoes and looked liked wallies but hey we were comfortable! Oh and be prepared to do alot of walking up and down hills! but thats a good thing! Happy Camping!

Several weekends 2003 We stumbled upon this camp site by accident and we are so glad we did, we spent several weekends here during Summer 2003, we have been lucky and have always managed to pitch in the wooded area which is great. I was a bit worried first time we went as we have a Rigidome XXXL, which if you don't know is a pretty large tent but we had no trouble getting it in amongst the trees.
It's fantastic for the beach (shingle) as long as you are agile as the path is steep and winding. There is a great walk to Lulworth but again it can be a bit hard going if your not very fit, particularly on the way back.
We never really use the eating facilities on site so I can't comment on those but you must visit the Sailors Return which is about 3 miles away the food is fantastic, reasonably priced and they certainly don't scrimp on the portions! This site has become our favourite for long weekends away and we plan several more this year.
We can't praise this site enough, hope you enjoy it as much as we do, if you like peace and quiet & being in the middle of the countryside, but within easy driving distance of Weymouth I'm sure you will.

August 2003 A very pleasant site, nice pitches (we were under the trees), facilities lovely and clean. The beach is very pretty when you get there but not for the feint-hearted! A most enjoyable stay.
