Worth visiting for the breakfasts alone - all local produce and v. Good. Dramatic views across Bristol chanel, close to coastal footpath and other good walks. Good dog exercising area. Shower block could do with updating, however very clean and plenty of hot water. Quiet pub next door with inexpensive imaginative menu and good chef. The site owners are very helpful and friendly. We extended our visit by five days and will be returning.

Just returned from a week at this site. Small site with friendly owners. The site in situated in an excellent position with superb views down to Lynton & Lynmouth and across to the Welsh coastline. There are some hardstandings and for many pitches levelling blocks will be needed. Some pitches have their own water and drainage. As it is high up it may prone to wind so be prepared to use storm guys if using an awning. As others have stated the loos and facilities are in need of updating but they are keep very clean and there was always hot water available. The shop sells basic provisions but the small cafe serves excellent breakfasts which are well cooked and hearty. A good way to set you up for the excellent walks around the area. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this site especially out of season. I paid fifty pounds for a van, two people with electricity.Excellent value

I have mixed feelings about this campsite.
On the plus side, the owners are very friendly and the facilities are kept very clean and includes disabled washing facilities, which not many campsites have. The showers are quite big which I imagine are quie useful if you have small children.
On the negative side the facilities are old and really could do with updating and the sinks in the washing area are quite low. Another minus is the fact that there is no site lighting so a torch is a necessity. Also levelling blocks are quite useful for some of the pitches.

This is a nice quiet site with very friendly owners. The pitch we were sited on had lovely views which were such a pleasure to wake up to each morning. The facilities were old looking and in need of updating, but were clean and well looked after. There's a really nice cosy pub next door which serves good pub grub, and loads of lovely (be warned they're also very hilly)walks directly from the caravan park. The only negative I would mention with this site is the fact that it's on an extremely high hill, with a road which is also quite narrow in parts, but this is Lynton after all, and the area is known as Little Switzerland. However, the surrounding area is quite beautiful, and we'd have no hesitation going back to this site.

An ok site, clean and tidy with good showers. Nice view down to Lynmouth. The one problem we found was that if we wanted to go somewhere, we had to drive as there did not appear to be any buses. Very windy when we were there and there is not a lot of shelter. The pub next door serves a decent meal and is only a couple of minutes walk away. Would have been great if weather had been warmer. Will definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our stay at this very mature site, and thought it was very good value for money. As indicated by other reviewers, the walking around the area and the great-value breakfast provided by the campsite were absolutely excellent, and we found the location ideal for our holiday - being within walking distance of Lynmouth and other interesting places along attractive rural and coastal paths. We liked the caravan pitch we were given, which was hardstanding, with views through the trees towards Wales. We found the owners very friendly and helpful, full of tips about walking etc. When we visited, the campsite seemed fairly full, but we enjoyed a very quiet and pleasant stay. (However, it's probably the kind of site where there are many permanent units for people who visit at weekends.) Another bonus were several fields of alpacas around the site, which amused us. It's true that the toilet block is rather old-fashioned and a bit 'municipal', but there are private washing cubicles and plenty of loos. It's also a nuisance that the showers aren't adjustable, but at least they are free and spacious. Like a lot of campsites, the TV reception wasn't great, but we've no reason to think it would've been better anywhere else. Bring your DVD player, I say!

Excellent site! Very friendly owners. The walking in the area is fantastic, especially the walk to Watersmeet and then onto Lynton and Lynmouth. Make sure you go to the cafe at the top of the funicular railway at Lynton/Lynmouth which works on simple but highly effective Victorian water technology.
The breakfasts served at the campsite are simply FANTASTIC! Great value with loads of toast and lashings of tea and all locally sourced meat. Highly recommended!
The campsite is well appointed with great views across the bay but can get a little breezy but then we were there in March!

A lovely friendly site, really nice people. Used the hook up this time, lovely spaced pitches, excellent site, children yet again enjoyed the freedom and made lots of friends, then the nightmare came, heavy rain and wind battered our tent, so we packed up at 3am and slept in the cars. Next morning the owners were so helpful and have even given us a days back to take when every we want to, which was very nice, just need to buy a new tent, can't wait to go back 5*

Visited this site on Bank Holiday weekend for the first time, after reading all the wonderful reviews, but must admit was disappointed. We felt that the toilet and shower block was inadequate for how may people the site holds. The toilets were not very clean and the showers were cold. On a more positive note the owners were indeed friendly and very helpful

After a four night stay, we (self, wife and 14 yr old son) can recommend this friendly, ideally located site. Campers seem to have the advantage if they're directed to the 'Tents only' area as we were - it offers a wonderful view of the Bristol Channel, and at nights, the lights of Lynton, Barry and Porthcawl.
The field slopes a little but not excessively. Toilet, shower and dishwashing facilities were adequate and acceptable but could really do with updating - the Gents had just one hand dryer for foiur washbasins, two personal washing cubicles and five loos. Having said that, the wait was never excessive.
The only slight criticism was that the 'Tents only' field was not particularly well-regulated. We arrived back one evening to find our tent totally surrounded; nowhere remotely near to park our car, and several of the newly-pitched tents were much less than the requested 3m away. Fortunately there seems to be a fairly rapid turnover of campers on this field, and this was the only day we had this problem.
The shop also haas a cafe, which we didn't get round to trying but looked to be popular. The Beggar's Roost pub is right next door, but only serves standard pub food and the bar area is rather small. Still a good place to warm up if you're cold and wet, though!
Generally, if you're looking for a site in North Devon with reasonably good facilities and you don't want holiday camp crowds, Channel View is well worth a look. We'd go back!
