We've just returned from 2 weeks at this lovely camp site. Unusually for us, we chose to visit the same site for the 2nd year running. We wouldn't normally go back to the same site but we had nothing negative about our stay last year so when we decided to go away with friends it made sense to suggest Tregarton Park again. I reviewed the site in full this time last year. This year's visit was very similar - the pitches are still well maintained, facilities are kept spotless and the staff and owners are a credit to the site. The shop and takeaway still offer good value. There are slight changes to the pool area this year. Gone is the old decking and replaced by a seating area under 2 huge parasols. The couple of times we used the pool the seating area wasn't very busy - perhaps coincidence or maybe that the chairs in this area are not particularly comfortable? A point to mention about the pool. I don't recall last year there being swimming lessons taking place, but this year at least 2 times during our stay (once at around 4pm and the other time in the morning) the pool was suddenly invaded it seemed by a mass of over excited children! Of course, because the pool is fairly shallow there will always be predominantly children having fun in it. The afternoon I witnessed a lesson, it seemed a little unorganised and took over half of the pool. This is not necessarily a criticism just an observation.
We stayed on pitch 99 this year - a huge pitch. We have an 8 metre long tent, large windbreak, washing line, trailer and car. There was still plenty of room with all of our gear. Our friend's were on the pitch next to us and we also pitched a gazebo between the 2 pitches - this proved invaluable with the intense heat of our first week. These pitches are on a slight slope however, so be prepared. Fortunately our table was able to have one leg adjusted to accommodate this and also our cupboards have adjustable legs. We did move the bed 3 times though before we were comfortable! I would recommend these pitches for the location and size, despite the slight slope.
There are still the inconsiderate campers - from those not mopping out showers to a family who chose to light a fire 'pit' one evening. We were so concerned as we could see cinders spark from this, that my husband went up to their pitch with a fire extinguisher! Considering the dry, hot weather this could have easily sparked off a fire. We did mention it to the owner the next day who stated he would have a look and possibly have a word with the pitch concerned.
Beware of the shower/toilet block floor if wearing regular flit flops - it is very slippery. I'm sure there may be a sign warning of slippery surface but I had to make sure I wore specific footwear and not flit flops. I heard the slippery floor comment several times.
Because of the fantastic weather and our visit the previous year we mainly had relaxing beach days. Caerhays is sandy, shallow water and a big plus it is only a few minutes away from the site. We also visited Porthpean beach near Pentewan. This was coarser sand and a steeper incline into the water. The car park is a bit of a trek away - not good if you have a bundle of stuff to carry. Claim to fame here - Dame Judi Dench was on the beach the same day, relaxing like everyone else.
We ate out a few times - in the Sharks Fin and also Harbour Inn in Mevagissey, the Water Wheel in St Austell, Sam's Bistro in Fowey, and the Rashleigh Arms in Polkerris - all very good and reasonably priced.
In summary Tregarton Park has a good reputation and rightly so. They clearly work very hard to maintain the standards. It's a pity I can't pick up the site and relocate to another part of Cornwall/UK as although it is situated in a lovely area there is too much more to see to justify returning there in the near future. If you choose to stay here you will not be disappointed.

There are many good things I'd like to say about this site but they have mostly been said already. However, this was our first visit to Cornwall and we weren't quite sure what to expect, well we needn't have worried as the whole experience was just great and we will certainly be going back again.
In places the narrow winding road from St Austell to Pentewan needs a bit of extra care especially if you meet a bus coming the other way and whatever you do, don't overshoot the right turn at the top of the hill, (there is a brown tourist attraction type sign bur Tregarton is near the bottom of it) and tow your outfit down into Mevagissey as the streets are very narrow.
Once on site the site owner's son and a hard working star in my opinion, will show you to your pitch and in no time at all will level the van for you. One bit of hassle out of the way and a step nearer to getting the kettle on.
The people and the ambiance on site was extremely friendly and most of the folk that we spoke to have been coming back for years, some many times a year and I can see why. An excellent base to visit attractions from as nowhere is very far away.
Many book there next year's stay in advance when they are there and that way they can not only ensure the pitch they like but get it at this year's prices.

This site is now our staple destination for half term and summer holidays. The site is immaculate full stop. Well tended borders, regularly mowed lawns and pitches (when not occupied of course), spotless toilets and showers (all of which are hot and very modern) and wide spacious pitches that are so well positioned, even when full, the campsite feels quite the opposite. I think the family team that look after this concern, and they have been there for 17 years thus far, tick all the boxes from a customer service perspective. Always ready to help and listen, they have over the years we have visited carefully tweaked and refined to the point where the pool area in particular is a joy to behold - and when the sun shines you could literally be in Portugal. Another big win is the well maintained and well stocked park area for the young ones. Fully enclosed by a post and rail fence so adults can keep an eye out, it is easily the one my kids prefer of the competitors year in/year out.
Prices in the shop and takeaway are what I would consider to be excellent value. It would be easy for the owners to inflate prices given that it is a fair few miles to the nearest supermarket, though they take the opposing view that it is better to encourage people back with a fair tarrif - and at 60p for a home baked croissant, or £2. 75 for a delicious 1/4 cheeseburger at the poolside - on that score they get my vote!
The close proximity of the great beaches at Gorran and Caire Hayes added the finishing touches to what is a beautiful site, well run and excellent value for money. We are due to visit twice again this year - and we can't wait.

What a super site! Stayed for the first two weeks of September, and didn't want to leave. We were put onto a different pitch than that requested, because our chosen pitch had been damaged by the wet summer, and instead given hard standing. Our unit was parked and levelled for us! Electric points were well placed, and seemed to be on every third pitch in our section. Both fresh and grey water points were within the section (the site is organised into a number of sections, so we always felt part of a smaller group), and chemical waste disposal was at the toilet/shower/laundry complex. The toilets and showers were superb, and neither my wife nor I ever had to queue. We didn't use the pool, which was open for the first week of our stay, but it looked clean and inviting. The whole site was kept spotlessly clean. The shop had all the basics we needed. At St. Ewe, about a mile away, is a brilliant pub, The Crown, which serves good food at reasonable prices. All in all we had a restful stay on a very peaceful site, and can thoroughly recommend it.

Stayed at the park mid August. A popular campsite with families. The pool was great but full of children understandably and so did not appeal to our 2 teenagers. The site is extremely well maintained and could find absolutely no fault on that score. The showers and toilets are clean and well looked after.
We were in a pitch that was a long way from the facilities so at times could have done with toilets a bit nearer. However we chose the pitch deliberately so that was our fault! Unfortunately our pitch was on a slope and this seemed to dominate our holiday as we were always trying to deal with this problem! We were in a quiet secluded part of the camp which was was good. My only complaint was our pitch. All the surrounding ones looked to have been levelled off but ours unfortunately had been left for some reason. We spent ages debating where to place the tent when we arrived to deal with the slope!

We visited Tregarton for 7 nights in Aug 2012. I cannot speak highly enough for how friendly and hospitable the staff are. They really go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and do what they can to help with any queries or niggles you may have. We went as a family group including children aged 4, 6 & 7 and they absolutely loved the heated pool. The Park was also fun, but had lots of teenagers hanging around in the evenings.
The showers & toilet were kept spotless and were generally available without queueing.
The food from the take away was excellent and very good value for money.
Now the down side - We had pitch 132 which was toward the bottom end of the campsite. Whilst sheltered from any wind, it is also very low and due to the very heavy rain the days preceeding our visit the pitch was a mud bath. I feel that it would be beneficial to put sand or sawdust on such pitches before making them available to use, as it felt like we were standing in / on a puddle. The other issue with the pitch being at the low end of the site and having cows in the field next door is the smell that rises up when the ground becomes muddy. This is very unpleasant.
On the whole I would happily go back to Tregarton, but would opt for a pitch on a higher part of the site to avoid the mud and smell we experienced.

Excellent site on the whole, owner was very helpful and friendly, old guy in the shop was a bit miserable. Queued for showers a few times when it was busy and our pitch turned into a quagmire after the unseasonable rainfall, needed 4x4 to get out, worst summer in 20 years apparently. Excellent shop and heated pool, take away was average. Good for younger kids with outdoor play area and pool, not so hot for teens. A good base location for exploring Cornwall. We're going back to France this year but will definitely look at Tregarton again when we next do Cornwall.

A nice large site with heated pool (did not use) shops and cafe.
If you like large busy sites for you and you kids then this site is 5 star. If like us you have no kids and want peace then this is not for you.
It has great facility's through out but as being a busy site the showers get very busy.
The staff are very nice and helpful. The grounds when you enter are very pretty. Very well keep land. There are water taps everywhere and a area for motorhomes where you can park, empty Gray waste, top up water and other.

What can we say except this is a really Wonderful site. Lovely laid out pitches with plenty of space.
Easy access for towing and owners offered to put our van on pitch and level it.
The best shower cubicles we have ever seen, plenty of room and nicely enclosed.
Pool is a great asset and the kids loved it, as is the play area, wonderful enclosed safe park with something for kids from toddler to 11-12 year old. Pool locked up at 7pm and the park at 9pm which we thought was a good idea as it helped with settling the kids at night and kept the noise down.
Shop very reasonable and next to the pool, great to grab a coffee and snack. Take away has a fab menu and is well priced. Loved the freshly baked croissants in the mornings.
Overall this a wonderful site, the owners are very friendly and work around the clock to keep this site first class.

We visited Tregarton Park for 7 nights at the end of July, and had a wonderful time. Our whole experience of the site, from the online booking to our departure was very positive.
The toilets/showers were well laid out, well maintained and cleaned regularly. The swimming pool was a great hit with the whole family, particularly my little boy, and the surrounding seating area was very pleasant for spectating!
Our little boy adored the playground which was suitable for a range of ages. The site shop was well stocked, and the takeaway was very popular.
Tregarton Park is some distance away from most local amenities ie pubs etc, probably too far to walk, but it was only a short drive and didn't bother us at all.
We are already planning/hoping to return next year!
