We were due at Tregarton Park for 12 nights from 15th July. Our trip had been booked back in February and we had originally chosen pitch 131 for it’s slightly more secluded location. However, in the few weeks before there was some very wet weather and we knew beforehand that it was unlikely our preferred pitch would be available.

It was right at the bottom of the site and also no road ran through this area, so had become very wet. When we arrived we were given the choice of another 4 pitches and it was suggested we have a drive around to see which one we wanted to go for. After a couple of circuits we decided on pitch 28 which was in the top right hand corner of the campsite.

It was a very large corner pitch, quite near the tennis courts, but seemed to be in a nice location. Another factor that made us decide on this pitch was that if we had a lot of further wet weather we were at the top and in effect water would not collect here.

The pitches were well kept, level, and with some bushes and hedges which gave a degree of privacy between pitches. A word of warning though, our EHU only just reached (it is standard length).

In the ladies toilet block there were 5 showers (if memory serves correct), each with 2 double hooks, fold down seat and a hand rail in the cubicle for those that needed it. They did vary in size slightly but were on the roomy side.

They were closed between 12 – 1 for cleaning with a temporary toilet (porta loo) available during this time. Cleaning staff were also around in the evening and morning doing a quick mop around etc. It certainly was an endless task for them, especially in our 2nd week when the site was 99% full and there were lots of children on site.

There were at least 2 mop and buckets so there was no excuse for campers not to mop out.

The on site shop stocked any essentials one might need, reasonably priced, and also sold newspapers. During the summer holidays it is open all day but times vary outside this. There is also a take away (located in the shop) where you can order from quite a varied menu – from burgers, pizza, to curry or chilli. We used it twice – the first time we had a burger, chips and onion rings – tasty and good value. The 2nd time we had a 10” meat supreme pizza. I thought this was very poor as certainly the menu stated pepperoni and spicy beef (may have been another meat but I can’t be sure). There was only evidence of pepperoni, tomato and a smattering of cheese and I thought it was poor value for money. You can also order rolls, ciabatta and baguettes the day before. These were lovely, and reasonably priced. The take away is open at set times for breakfast baps, lunch and dinner. There are some outside tables and chairs by the takeaway if you wanted to eat here.

We used the pool a couple of time to cool off. It wasn’t really big enough to swim in as it was mainly full of children splashing around and generally having fun but it certainly worked for a quick cool off. There are a few sun loungers and lots of wooden bench seating with parasols for shade.

The current price for the laundrette is £4 per wash which include washing detergent. Tumble dryers are a minimum of 60p and generally to dry a wash load it will cost £1.

We don’t have children so didn’t take much notice of the play area but there was a lot of noise coming from it when we passed so I’m guessing it was popular!

Tregarton Park is a lovely site. The owners and staff are all very pleasant and work extremely hard to ensure everywhere is well maintained.

Only a few minutes drive away is Lobbs Farm Shop. It’s open 7 days a weeks and has a good selection of products, especially on the butcher counter. We went here 4 times, bought bacon, steak, lamb, bugers and sausages and also some deli stuff. Not particularly cheap but good quality.

There are a few pubs quite near by (not walking distance though). We tried The Crown at St Ewe. I think this has recently changed hands as when I commented on their sea food platter which I had read about online, the waitress said they had changed hands and no longer did this. We had lunch there and I would say it was fair.

Mevagissey is a short drive away and there are pubs, restaurants and fish and chips shops – something for everyone. We ate at the Harbour Tavern, good food and reasonably priced. There are many villages and towns further afield.

A favourite of ours was Fowey, approximately 30 minutes away. A very pretty town but beware parking is at the top of the town and it is a very steep and long climb for the walk back up!

There is a mini bus transfer (for a charge) which runs from the main car park down to the harbour. We had our best meal of the holiday here at Sams Bistro. The food was superb. We opted for the seafood feast – scallops, mussels, red mullet, prawns, calamari, sardines, all served with a salad, home made coleslaw and French bread. Even the salad was delicious – mixed leaves, cucumber sticks, red onion, tomato, sugar snap peas, bean sprouts. If you are not too keen on fish, there are lots of other options. Please ensure you go there hungry as the portions are very generous.

There are a few nearby sandy beaches – Caerhays was our nearest favourite (10 minutes drive). The sand was soft, level access and a reasonably priced car park. There are also toilets and a sanck bar/café.

The nearest major town is St Austell, approximately 20 minutes away. There is an Asda and Tesco here.

This was our first venture into Cornwall and we were recommended this site by my Sister and her Husband. We have visited many sites around the UK and we must say that we were really taken back by this site. Fantastic welcome, Easy booking it. Well laid out and the customer services cannot be beaten. Site was perfect and facilities fantastic. A special mention to Rob who sited our caravan.

The toilet block and showers were the best I have seen.

The weather was not kind to us over the period but never the less we had a really peaceful and enjoyable break. ,

Not a site I would recommend for the more grown up kids as there is no entertainment except Tennis court and children's play area. Smaller kids would enjoy it.

Shop could do with stocking up on more items but the food was nice. The pool warm.

Wonderful Pub about 2 miles away ' The Crown' at St. Ewe which serves a fantastic Carvery on Sunday Lunchtimes as well as good beer and friendly staff.

Will definitely go back

We chose this site for our first ever week-long camping holiday (Jubilee week) for a few reasons, but mainly because it has received so many good reviews. Here's another one:

You could say that the site is divided into two sections, the top field is very flat and quite open and is where the tennis court and play area are located. This is where the majority of families were pitched and seemed quite lively through the day with lots of children joining in with football etc, not near any tents or vans though so they're safe from damage. It wasn't in any way noisy or rowdy, just good fun with kids doing what kids should be doing on their holiday. The bottom half of the site is sloped and divided into smaller fields (or meadows as they're called), with well-designed terracing providing level pitches for everyone. This area is perhaps more private and quieter and also more protected from strong winds, which was a bonus for us while we were there as the weather was awful some days.

In all cases your pitch is clearly defined by shrubbery and/or fencing so there is no intrusion from neighbors guylines etc. You don't feel isolated though, they've managed to get the balance between privacy and community right and everything quietened down by 10. 00pm. All pitches are large and have EHU and there are plenty of water/rubbish stations dotted around the site which were constantly being attented to. We didn't once see an overflowing bin even though the site was full.

The toilet block can only be described as spotless. Plenty of cubicles and showers meant we didn't have to wait, and they were cleaned often and with care. This is a vital part of a holiday experience and Tregarton Park obviously recognise this and provide a service accordingly. Top marks here.

The swimming pool was clean and warm, even on days when the weather was bad we enjoyed a swim then braved nature's natural cold air dryer back to the tent. There are changing rooms by the pool but it seemed easier (and funnier) to run back to the kettle and a warming cuppa. There is a large area within the walled pool area with tables/parasols which on nice days would be lovely to sit around. The shop was manned by a very likeable chap who always had time for a chat. We used their takeaway service twice and the food was very nice, good portions and extremely good value. Actually the shop itself was very good value, having a good range of food/drink etc at surprisingly good prices.

We travelled through the night from Durham to get there and arrived in the area at approximately 8. 00am. One thing that was strange was that having parked in Mevagissey we couldn't find anywhere open to get some breakfast, there were plenty of cafe's but they didn't open until 10. 00am which seems a bit odd. We gave up and walked around for a while, tired and hungry until eventually I decided to try my luck at the campsite. They very kindly allowed us onto our pitch early and so we were pitched, sorted and ready for our holiday by noon.

The site is a little remote, and it is a narrow road to walk along to get to the pub/off-site walks etc with fast traffic to content with but this doesn't detract from how good this site is.

I have only one minor gripe with the site. They have gone to a lot of effort and expense to create a lovely little area in between the pool complex and the shop which is now occupied with tables and chairs etc. I watched the progress of this on their facebook page and looked forward to having a coffee/read the paper while the kids played in the pool. They appear to have banned dogs from this area however even though there is a 6 foot wall between here and the pool complex, so in effect they have excluded a large part of their customer base from this really nice facility. Either myself or my wife would have had to stay at the tent with the dog so we didn't bother using this area. It's their choice and I respect that, but they encourage dog owners to stay at this wonderful site and this seems out of character and un-necessarily 'ruley'. It could be a really good money earner on nice days, it didn't spoil the holiday though.

I loved it here, I'll go again and will recommend it to anyone who will listen.

Excellent site. Clean and tidy. Facilities are great. The owners balance being available when required and being unobtrusive. Pitch size was great. Did not feel cramped. We spent little time in the camp as it is well situated for getting out and about.

It is close to Eden Project and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan: both of which are an absolute must. It was also close enough to St Austell which made shopping for dinner and breakfast easy.

I do not really have any particular criticism to make. Although it might have been useful to have been given more information about catching the bus to the places we wanted to visit.

Recommended.

We are on site as I write this, so if you can read it the wifi works great. As does everything on this site. Showers, Toilets, Shop, Pool, etc etc. It is without question the best site in the UK we have visited, and we have been on loads all over the kingdom. The pitches are all huge and level and everything is immaculate. The Hicks Family are without doubt the most committed owners I've had the pleasure to meet, and improve the site little by little every year.

Within 2 miles you have Gorran which has a shop and the Barley Sheaf, a pub/restaurant which is really good. A little further is Mevagissy with loads of little shops, cafes, and restaurants. Caerhays Beach is 1. 5 mls away, and is our little dogs favourite. As I type this the sun is going down, its a clear blue sky, and tomorrow no doubt will be as beautiful as today. Roll on retirement, then we can spend more time here than we do.

We choose this site for the location to explore the south coast of Cornwall as we usually go to the north coast.

The site was easy to find even though satnav took us down a small lane. On arrival the site looked like a lovely cottage setting. They offered to pitch the caravan for us if required very friendly and helpful. We were pitched at the top part of the site near the children's play park.

The play park was very large and enclosed with lots of apparatus to play on the children loved it.

There was outdoor tennis court which you could hire the gear if needed.

The outdoor swimming pool was not open at the time that we went but looked great and clean, the shop was also closed at this time of year.

The toilet block was very impressive and immaculate always clean, the showers were large great for families with auto sensors for turning shower on, the only improvement would have been under floor heating for stepping out of the shower.

The dog field was just as good clean mowed although a little walk from our caravan at the top of the site.

Shop were nearby but you would need to drive easy to reach and find.

Beaches were not far away, dogs were allowed year round with a dog on a lead, also plenty of small hidden away beaches great for surfing.

What a great site, Nice friendly staff who will pitch your van for you and level it out.

Playground is great for younger kids and pool is a godsend for older teenagers, along with tennis court.

Facilities are top class and probably the best that I have seen in any campsite. Toilets clean and well maintained.

We have visited this site on two occasions and I have recommended it to family and friends.

Nice pub in St ewe. Gorran Haven and Mevagissey only a five minute drive away. Great for visiting St Austell, Eden project and Chalestown ship wreck centre.

Once more, another perfect seven night stay at Tregarton Park. Our previous visits have been with a tent, but this year we returned with a caravan. We were received with a very warm welcome, and were offered the free pitching and levelling service, which we jumped at, and within five minutes, our outfit was sited and levelled, brilliant! Our pitch was fabulous, very large, and even with a distant sea view. As ever, the grounds and facilities were immaculate. What else can I say, except, well done to all at Tregarton Park, we would have no hesitation in recommending this park to anyone heading to Cornwall.

This was our first visit to site, attracted by low prices we stayed for 18 nights.

We were not disappointed as we were greeted by a very friendly owner who even offer to site our rather large caravan if required. We declined his offer as there was plenty of room to maneuver.

As we were late booking we were allocated a pitch at the bottom of the park which was fine until we had two days of heavy rain which made our grass pitch waterlogged. We spoke to owner re moving to another pitch and as soon as one became available he hooked up our caravan, took it to new pitch, sited and levelled it for us. Great service. Tennis court and children's play area(fenced and closed at dusk)at top end of park. Shop, pool and takeaway closed as out of season.

Nice large dog walk at bottom of park but roads quite steep. Toilets/showers/laundry located in centre of park very clean and tidy.

Not much within walking distance of site so car or bike advisable, some public transport available. Caerhayes beach is a short drive away down fairly narrow roads (beware of an abundance of Pheasants on the road) but well worth a visit, small tea room and toilets in carpark.

Overall very nice site would visit again especially in late season.

Just returned from 10 days camping at Tregarton Park, had a great time despite the winds and rain. The facilities are some of the best we have used and at £9 a night ( out of school hols) it is great value.

If there was anything they could improve on it is the incline on some of the pitches. OK for the vans but I did tend to slide down the airbed in our tent.

Some of the pitches had large muddy patches where the season of camping had worn the grass bar

If your tenting and there are winds forecast, head for the lower pitches ( opposite end of site to pool) here the topography offers shelter.

Did hear of a few tents having problems with the winds on the higher more exposed ground.

Lots to do and see in the area, though a car is needed all the time.

Mevagissey, Goran Haven and a few quiet local beaches are very close, rather glad we didn't drive a large car as some of the roads can be narrow.

Had a lovely bouillabaisse at Sams in Fowey ( £50 for 2 with a bottle of wine and starter) we almost finished the portion as it was delicious.

We will return, the sites great and the area has much to offer.
