This ticked all the boxes in our research on location and facilities. Our only concern was about noise from the very nearby major road, which we had read about.

The site was as good as we expected. The management was friendly and all the facilities we used, including the toilet block, were clean.

The road noise was definitely there, although two rows of trees helped to muffle it. However, it did not stop us sleeping very soundly and took nothing away from a very enjoyable stay.

In terms of disturbance, if you're happy sleeping by a fast flowing river, that's roughly the impact of the road noise.

 OK so the good bits:

The welcome was friendly, and the toilet block was OK

The not so good bits:

We have a caravan and a number of tents, and on this occasion as we were only staying for a night we decided to camp. The noise from the A417 was incessant. As we went into Cirencester to eat I rather naively thought that the noise would calm down later in the evening - not the case. Also, if you want a level pitch forget it - the best you will get is slightly sloping at the top of the field, and that's a long way from the toilets. The site is also (in my opinion) pretty expensive.

A shame really, as I said the welcome was excellent, but I can't recommend for a tent. If we had been in the caravan the sound would have been less of a problem I guess. I wouldn't stay again (in the van or a tent). By the way I have marked the location down in the review due to the road, the outlook is pleasant enough.

Stayed one night on Friday 12th July 2013.

Stumbled upon this site by following the brown camping sign! What a find so close to Cirencster, about 10 minute drive to centre.

Beautifully maintained site, great showers and toilet block.

Pitches on main field generous, some are on a slant, but level ones are available.

Trek to toilet block if at very top of field. Lovely laundry and even washing lines.

Site itself is quiet and peaceful, no noise from kids and others. The road however is a disappointment and is a noticeable drone, not lessening during the night. Such a pity that a lovely well run site, a pleasure to stay in is adversely effected by something outside their control, it may lessen when trees grow, it is unfortunate it is an elevated section.

If you could pick it up and move it away from the road and drop it somewhere else it would be 10/10

For a pair of caravanning newbies, we had no clue on anything at all, and the owner really helped us. We arrived late, and he was really good about helping us to get settled. He provided a handy map of the site. The owner helped us to park, there was a decent dog walking area, and the shower/toilet blocks were much better than we expected. Our dogs were welcomed, which is so important to us.

There's a small shop on site that sells basic essentials, and doesn't rip you off, which we think is really important when you're a good walk away from the shops. The park was very quiet, and everyone seemed friendly. We spent our first night ever in our caravan at this park, and will definitely be back.

I contacted the site via email and hoped that they would be able to accommodate us for 1 night on New Years Day! They were friendly and although they were closed on this particular day they were happy to allow us to stay. Our friends were using their van for the very first time and due to bad weather there were many soggy pitches. BUT this site were well aware of the problems and put us on 2 pitches that were well drained and next to each other.

There was decent drainage and the water was well protected from getting frozen. To be honest the only issue with this site is the road noise. EVERYTHING else including the people that run it was brilliant. Toilets were warm and clean, showers were hot and again the site itself was litter free.

The price was ok but not sure how it compares to other sites during peak periods.

As I said before, each of the people that run the site were so helpful which I think adds the experience so I would recommend.

We took a chance on the weather and booked for one night but ended up staying for two. We had a choice of several pitches, but settled on one towards the entrance as this appeared flatter for our motor-home. Good gravel pitch with own water and EHU.

The owners could not have been nicer and made us really welcome. We ordered one of their evening meals, which was delivered with a smile, already plated and ready to eat.

I cannot comment on the toilet block but Hubby said they were clean and looked as though they had recently been refurbished.

They have a small shop on site with a few essentials for purchase.

There is an old static caravan on site with lots of information on the area. Also books, magazines and games that have been left by previous site users.

There isn't a lot to do near the site apart from a golf course a few hundred yards down the road, but there is a bus stop just along from the site to take you into Cirencester or Cheltenham.

We would definitely go there again.

We spent 4 days at this site. Unfortunately not at the best time of the year. The weather was awful, wet and windy, but the site stood up well to it.

The site is lovely and very well kept. The wardens are extremely helpful and kept the facilities very clean. A great addition is the security barrier to get in and out of the site (probably as it is also a residential mobile home site as well as touring). As we were almost the only people there it is difficult to say how noisy it might get when full. We only had the noise from the road to contend with, but by the second night we had got used to it.

It is a great site and well situated in the centre of the Cotswolds for places of interest.

We will definitely be returning in the near future as there is plenty to see and do.

Although there is a small shop on site we did our shopping in the Tesco's in Cirencester which is only 3 miles away and is open 24hrs. You can walk through the valley to Cirencester and travel back by the hourly bus which stops about 100 yards away from the site.

All in all, apart from the weather, it is a lovely place to camp.

Enjoyed this site very much. We got an excellent deal (midweek special of three nights for the price of two) £34 including the dogs.

Pitches are very tidy, some are fully serviced. There is a slight slope but this is easily sorted.

There is a decent dog walking area.

The toilet/showers are clean and tidy although a little bit cold at this time of year.

You can order a takeaway meal from the reception. We saw the menu which looked enticing and reasonably priced. I thought this was a really nice touch. We didn't try it out though because we only stayed for three nights and had already organised our meals. We will try it out on our next visit.

There is quite a bit of traffic noise from the nearby flyover but, if like us you do lots of walking during the day and get lots of fresh air, who cares about a bit of noise. We slept like logs.

The nearest pubs are a one and a half mile walk away, pavement all the way, take a torch (or you could just drive). The Drillman's Arms is the first one (dog-friendly) and a little further on is The Plough - excellent food and dog-friendly.

There is a very pleasant walk via the fields and quiet roads (ask at reception for a map - free) into Cirencester.

Folding Camper: I cannot praise this site too highly. We had the field next to the facilities block too ourselves for the first three nights and found everyone else on site to be so friendly. Facilities are superb and the owners so helpful. The only downside is the busy road noise, but come on, we are on holiday and must expect a few downsides.

Cirencester is a fantastic town ( I am biased as I was born in the area) and am now returning in my old age. Tesco is not far away and is a 24hr store, with Petrol and McDonalds on site.

We stayed here this time last year and were so impressed that we promised we would return - so we did. Once again, our stay here was fantastic.

Everything was clean, tidy and well maintained as usual and the proprietors were pleasant, accommodating and helpful as usual.

Embarrassingly I perched myself on the small fence round the back of the washroom facilities and broke it in two! I took the pieces to reception and apologised and offered recompense for the damage - they wouldn't hear of it - no sooner had I done that, the fence was repaired and was all taken in good humour (so if you go and see a nice new piece of wood on top of the fence, that was me!).

Again, we stayed for 5 nights and decided to explore some areas of the Cotswolds we didn't have the time to last year. We returned to a couple of places such as Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury, but we also had a look at Gloucester and Painswick this year and our daughter was kept entertained with places such as Birdland, Butts Farm Park and the outdoor pool in Cirencester. All these places are within easy reach of the campsite.

Excellent value for money is this friendly, clean, secure and well organised campsite and no doubt we will return again, as there are still one or two places we would like to see
