Party of 2 adults and 3 children (12,10,2)

Upon arrival on a Saturday , the site was very busy , we were the last to pitch , a few disrespectful campers had to be told twice by the warden to keep the noise down in the small hours , but the warden was always on the case and the disruption was kept to a minimum.

By Monday the site had emptied leaving just a few of us and the seasonal units , this was much more to our liking.

The site has been taken over by Holgates so you have the use of their facilities , pool , bar etc, which I found to be good value for money. The Holgates site was a short pleasant walk through a couple of fields of sheep and cows , our 2 year old had no trouble walking there and back.

On site the toilet and pot washing facilities are portaloo type but have been surrounded by a lovely deck area with flower baskets making them quite attractive and were always very clean , showers were free but the press button type which you have to time so as to keep the water on , there were 4 loos and 2 showers for each sex and 2 unisex single showers . We never had to wait for either even at the weekends.

The kids really loved feeding the animals , there are goats , chickens and shetland ponies who all had babies and were really sweet. The chickens were a constant source of amusement for our little one as they are very curious and would even come into the awning!

The wardens who run this site are very friendly and helpful and always chatty. All in all we would stay here again if we were visiting the area again. The only thing I would mention is if using a folding camper or similar , request to be away from the trees as when packing up we had to pack up damp as the sun had not come past the trees and we were in the shade , had we been the other side of the field we would have been bone dry as the sun was shining over there.

Please note that this review is for the Caravan Club CL (Certificated Location) part of the site.

You normally expect a max of 5 vans on a CL, however this site is in a field in the middle of a much much larger commercial tent and caravan site. Fees seem to be the same as the commercial site; £15 low season, £25 high. Basically you are going to a commercial site, but as a CC member you have extra space. Check out the website for latest. It seems the site has been bought out by Holgates, hence the excellent renovations, with another site nearby, and you can use their facilities inc swimming pool, but that's a 20 minute walk.

However, although the weekend was busy, because of the size it was quiet midweek, but that was low season, might be different in peak season.

- There is a long single track narrow access which I am amazed I never saw a blockage on, although there were a few hold ups when vans were booking in.

But unless you insist on being out of the way don't be put off as it's in a good location and I think a useful CL addition if you want to explore the area:

- The CL field has plenty of space but on a sloping field.

- Good facilities inc TV aerial.

- excellent views from the CL field.

- lots of walking from the site, Arnside Knott, Silverdale, Morecambe Bay to Arnside.

- friendly and helpful staff.

However, as this is a renovated commercial site, I think this will be developed more, the CL field may change, and the 'porta cabin/loo' type facilities (which for all I know might be temporary), whilst good now, might deteriorate quickly.

Site kept very neat, wardens friendly and helpful. We had a serviced pitch (electric, water and TV socket) at the top of the site by the seasonals, very quiet mid-week. No views of the sea from there, and a hike down to the loos. New toilet block is in a set of portacabins with smart timber decking. No off-lead dog walk.

The Arnside and Silverdale area is beautiful - the RSPB reserve has Marsh Harriers, Leighton House is well worth a visit, but I wouldn't cycle hereabouts as the roads are narrow and bendy.

We headed up to the ‘lakes’ without a reservation on Saturday morning and decided to try Silverdale / Arnside. We tried to book into Holgate’s Caravan Park, which looked really nice with a pool area etc for the kids but he receptionist told us they were full and sent us over to Hollins Farm. It was only a 2 minute drive to the farm and we were able to book in for our one night stay.

We paid £15 for the night which was a superb price considering we could use all of the leisure amenities over at Holgate’s. We were shown to our pitch which was on the back field that had no EHU. This was fine as we had a power inverter for the car.

The field was huge and all the tents were kept to the outside, leaving a massive area for the kids to play games. It was a 2/3 minute trek to the toilet / shower block but that was not a problem, although they should cater for washing-up on the back field. The toilet / showers were immaculate and looked quite new. It was a 10 minute walk across fields to the Holgate Caravan Site where we could use all of the facilities / shops. There were also farm animals for the kids to see and engage with.

The pitches seemed quite level and after an hour’s worth of torrential rain in the afternoon the field held no water and dried out very quickly.

There was no pub/club on the site which was great as this made the midnight hour very peaceful.

We loved this place; it was a lovely site, in a lovely location.

We will definitely be going back.

Visited May Bank holiday weekend for 3 nights, 2ad & 2ch (11 & 12). Easy to find-following Holgates signs locally. Approaching lanes are narrow.

Nice clean site. Friendly wardens on hand, although receptionist could have been more welcoming . Luckily the warden was not busy at the time we arrived and drove up to show us where our pitch was when I asked.

This is one of the dearest sites we have stayed at (even on a Bank Holiday) probably because of now being linked to the facilities available to use at Holgates - pool was nice, shop well stocked and reasonably priced, would benefit from some supplies being sold on Hollins Farm though (bread, milk) as bit of a trek to shop before breakfast.

We were pitched at the top end of the site, which was peaceful with lovely views over the bay, although, the main field seemed a little cramped. Pitching awning was a little difficult on hardstanding - ground underneath was solid, even with rock pegs.

Good location for walking. Views were awesome. Would definitely re-visit this area again.

Just got back today from this lovely campsite. We were on the field without electric hookup and we were pleased that people were only allowed to pitch around the outside of the field. This provided the children with lots of room to play in the rest of the space, which was needed as there isn't a playground. Toilets were always clean. The cleanest we have seen on any site. The site only has one sink for dish washing and would benefit from another.

Would also like the facility to buy basics such as milk, bread, bacon etc, as whilst there is a well stocked shop on Holgates, it would be difficult to get there with my son who is a wheelchair user (without getting in the car that is.) We tended to have a drive to Carnforth and use the Booths supermarket. (there is a co-op there as well) There is a small co-op closer in Silverdale, but we wanted a few things on a Sunday and this was closed.

Would definitely go back again, as liked the relaxed, quiet nature of this site, and the children all enjoyed looking at the animals.

What a find this part of Lancashire is - really beautiful with the countryside and the coast but less than a half hour drive to the Lakes. Hollins Farm is a proper campsite - no bar, pub or anything else fleecing you out of your money, just the ability to check out of the fast lane for a while. Our children finally put their Nintendos down and just enjoyed chasing each other around and the other kids they met on site. They loved the animals, especially the funny little goats. We also walked into the local village - Silverdale which has a really great butchers and greengrocers as well as 2 nice pubs.

The facilities are a bit basic as other people have mentioned but I bumped into the owner on site - he was chasing the goats back into the field. He said that they just bought the site at the end of last year so the new facilities will be coming soon. Otherwise he says they are planning to keep it as a simple site to contrast with the posh one they have up the road.
It was good to be able to go up there and use the pool on the one day that the rain just didn't stop. Personally I don't find this site too expensive and I always think that paying that little bit more keeps the rowdy crowds away - the ones who keep you up all night. I almost hope that not too many people find out about this place - we'll certainly be going back.

Lovely site. Beautifully positioned in heart of country. Visited over Easter bank holiday. Will definitely return. I read the reviews before booking but still went ahead with booking as it was the only site I could find at short notice with spaces. I understand peoples comments on the price but we visited another site that was recommended and only cost £10 a night for the bank holiday but to be honest it was nowhere near as nicely positioned. We were in a lovely spot near the donkeys. There were baby goats in a nearby field and chickens wandering round. They even came in our awning one morning eating the dogs food whilst the dog was out on a walk.

It is cheaper off peak (£15 a night). We paid £26.50 a night which is on the dearer side but we usually pay this in the summer holidays so as it was bank holiday I don't think it was too dear. The only downside was the shower block as there was two ladies and two gents showers for the whole site which is not enough, although I did only wait a few minutes for one to be free. Also there is no children's playground on site but the children (6 and 9)were happy just playing ball, tig,etc with some friends they made.

You are free to use most of facilities at holgates centre which is a 10 minute walk across a field or a couple of minutes by car. This includes a lovely although busy pool, sauna ,indoor soft play and outdoor park. Lovely chips to take away at restaurant. Meals did look very nice.

If you have not been to this area before( as we hadn't) be aware that some of the lanes are very tight. You would struggle to get two caravans passing in a few places although we had no problems. We were all pleasantly surprised by the site and will definitely be visiting again.Very helpful and friendly staff. They said there are a few teething problems they will sort out but none we noticed. Went to kendal for day which has great shops.

It is a lovely campsite, set in some wonderful countryside. The facilities whilst minimal (toilets, sinks and recently 2 porta-showers) are normally very clean.

What has changed since our last visit though, is that a lovely family run business has now been taken over and run by Holgates Caravan Park from just round the corner. So far, this seems to have entailed fitting the 2 aforementioned porta-showers, a fair bit of promoting the well overpriced facilities on their main site, and more than doubling the pitch price!

This was a great site for a quick, inexpensive week(end) away, but with Holgates looking like one of the most expensive sites in the area, that may have come to an end.

We took our daughter (3) to this campsite for her first ever camping trip. We stayed for just one night. The site is excellent and at £10 per night we are definitely planning on returning. This coming weekend in fact. The weather was glorious, everyone was friendly.
The site is very family orientated - our daughter just ran around playing with everyone elses' kids. The toilets were more than adequate and the showers were fine too. We visited Arnside for the afternoon and had some fantastic fish and chips at The Big Chip cafe, overlooking the Bay. The local shops were lovely and all in all we really enjoyed our time. Our daughter took to camping well and loved it too.
