Just back from our first camping holiday, we picked this site as it was fairly near to home and the reviews here were good and after staying I can fully understand why. We only stayed two nights and if not for prior commitments we could have quite easily stayed another couple and we will definitely be returning.
The site is very peaceful and situated in some beautiful countryside, the owners and other residents are very helpful, pleasant and friendly. As were the resident chickens!
The toilet/shower blocks are spotlessly clean and tidy with a lot of room in the shower cubicles (20p for four minutes), hairdryers (free) and sockets available for anything else you may need. A clean and tidy washing up room. There is also a laundry room but we didn't use this facility.
There is little shop on site with a small library of books adjacent. There are maps of walks available should you need.
There are plenty of ehu points as well as drinking/waste water points around the site.
The site is not adult only but there are no amenities for children so if your child needs swimming pools, playgrounds and amusement arcades to be kept entertained then this site will not be for you.
The site is only a few miles from the lovely market town of Helmsley on one side and Pickering on the other with the famous 'Lion Pub' at Blakey Ridge slap bang in the middle, well worth driving through Hutton le Hole to get to it and if you do, you've got to try the food there, well worth it.
The small village of Wombleton is approximately one mile away with a pub which opens during 'old fashioned' times as can only be expected in a small village but no village shop as far as we could see. To the other side is Harome which also has a pub and a shop. This road through Harome leads to Helmsley and makes a nice alternative to the A170.
Helmsley itself has two supermarkets, several tea rooms, bakeries etc and on Fridays at least is Market day. Pickering is bigger than Helmsley and as such has a larger selection of shops. Both are very nice and well worth a visit. For history buffs, both have a castle, Helmsley has Duncombe Park and Pickering has a 1940's weekend and a steam rally.

Very friendly hosts, shown to site by a man on a bike nice touch, on arrival asked usual questions then given a set of rules. Examples all dogs must be kept on a lead, no noisy dogs or they will asked to leave, Children can't play any ball games anywhere on site, No play park or any children's play area, and no cycling around site, so family's be aware this site seem not to be very child friendly, barbeque's must be out by 8pm.
TV and radio must be kept low volume, dogs must be walked outside the site and doggie bags must be deposed out side site in a bin across the road.
Plus points are:
1, Good TV reception,
2, Nice wash room and showers (although 20p needed) for 4 mins
3, Concrete base for motorhome but if awning is to be put out need to pay £2.00 and no were to hold down if pegs required,
4, Ideal for caravans,
5, Close to national trust site Nunnington Hall,
6 Very Pleasant and friendly staff
Over all not the best site for motorhomes and not the best child friendly site.

A very clean and well kept site, toilets were immaculate but you do however have to pay for showers. The only problem I found with this site is that there wasn't many things to do in the surrounding area as I was in a campervan, I don't use it once it is pitched up. There was an airfield at the back to exercise the dog, but no public footpaths or anything else I could find around. Unfortunately the evening I walked into the village the pub was closed also.
Although a very nice site I doubt I would return

Having popped in to have a look last year this site was top of our 'to do' list this summer, so, when we finally had a decent weather forecast we phoned up on Sunday lunchtime. By 3pm we had arrived, been cycled to our pitch and started setting up.
We cannot fault the site or the owners in any way. As previously decribed the facilities are excellent, and we found David to be very east to get on with. Indeed, when I inadvertently tripped out all the electric on the site he dealt with the matter very tactfully and defused a potentially difficult situation. Brenda was always happy to have a chat and pointed us in the direction of some pubs serving great food nearby.
The whole ethos of the site is based on peace and quiet, so, if you want the 'Butlins experience' don't bother, there are plenty of sites locally that can provide this. Having said that there were a lot of children on site and they were all really well behaved, a big 'Thank you' to them, and the parents / grandparents for keeping in with the spirit of the place.
The site is very easy to get to, and with being west of Pickering only about 25 minutes from the A19. The surrounding area has lots of attractions, York, Malton and Scarborough are all within easy reach, and there is some great countryside for walking or cycling.
We were charged £18 a night for our large tent, EHU and dog which we thought was a very good price for the experience we had. And yes, we will definitely be going back!

My husband and I stayed her for 5 days in July and have to say it was one of the best campsites we have stayed on. The facilities were spotless and showers hot and lovely.
It was particularly nice to be able to have such a large cubicle to yourself and their were also plenty of toilet cubicles and private wash cubicles too.
We did not see a lot of the owners of the site but the handyman guy was forever tidying up and we were visited on most days by a resident chicken whom my husband adopted!
It is a superb site for exploring North Yorkshire and if we return to that area we will definitely stay here again!

Just back from 6 nights at this lovely site - we originally booked 4 nights, liked it so much we stayed two more.
The whole site is very well kept with spotless showers, loos, wash up and laundry rooms. Hairdriers and sockets for your own electric stuff. There's a loo etc for the disabled too.
The site is right on the edge of a disused airfield - ideal for dog walking. It is more suited to those without small children - although they are welcome.
Ideally situated for the many attractions in N Yorks.
Run by the lovely Willoughby family - they are always working; they make sure the site is clean, tidy and pleasant to stay in. They are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Their own web site is accurate.
This was our first visit - we shall most certainly go back.
Highly recommended.

We stayed here early July for 5 days and had a excellent time.
You cannot fault this site at all.
The toilet block is one of the best I have been in,clean all of the time.It has about 6 showers in the mens and 4-6 in the womens and plenty of loo's also there is a separate pot washing room.
There is a small shop on the sight that sells basic items.
The owner is very helpful he told us we can move the pinic table next to the tent and also a bbq stand.
The main town is Helmsley a lovely market town which is a short drive down the road.
We like to go walking and there is plenty in this area.
We will be staying here again as we liked it so much.

What a smashing site. Very well maintained. Toilet and shower rooms absolutely spotless. Very friendly owners who never seemed to stop working to keep the site looking nice.
Not too many children when we visited so was very peaceful. Next to a disused airfield which would be great for dog owners to exercise them. Would definitely recommend.

I have visited this site several times in the last two years and cannot fault the site in any way. Facilities i.E showers, toilets, washing up, laundry and waste disposal are fantastic.
Security may seem heavy but I have always felt safe here. There are so many good area and towns to visit within 50 miles. There is a good fish and chip shop within a couple of miles, and a Good co-op in Pickering. We have found a fantastic public house/ restaurant a few miles away that allow well behaved dogs in the bar area, and supplies fantastic meals at a reasonable cost.

What a lovely site and friendly, helpful people running it. Found the site ok following the guidelines given on line.
Was shown to the tent pitch area by the owner, Brenda, and picked a spot we liked on level ground. Some parts are not quite level but can not see it being a problem.
Showers and toilets really clean and and plenty of them. The little shop has everything you may need including freezer pack freezing facilities and lovely ice cream.
Within a short ride to Helmsley and Pickering. Lovely site. Lovely areas to visit.
