Camped from Mon-Fri on an electric pitch. Warm welcome by Wendy and Jim. Grass was short and level. About 20 yards from entrance to Dalby Forest. Walkers/Bikes free, Cars £7 entrance fee.
A site well worth going to for short breaks. Only one washing up sink with no light for the late night washer-uppers. Chemical toilet room. Drinking water tap. Gents had no urinals (Privacy) as a family shower room and only two loos, one being in the shower family room. Only two showers. Ladies also have a family shower room. Hot water is plentiful when site not full.
Don't let these comments put you off the site was absolutely great for us as we were walking/cycling most of the day.
I would advise you to book early if going as it could become full in summer. We shall be going back. Thornton-le-Dale is a short ride away for the shops. Pubs, Fish n Chips.
You must visit Dalby Forest with GO APE in the trees.

Just returned from a very pleasant stay here (two fifty something adults and a naughty dog) we found Wendy to be very friendly and were shown to a lovely pitch with beautiful views.
Although the site was quite busy and despite a group of at least four families with children nearby, this site was very peaceful and beautifully situated just at the edge of Dalby Forest. I found no negatives with the site however my husband thought two operational mens toilets were not enough at times, a little picky maybe?
We enjoyed it so much, as we left we made a booking for a couple of months time with other members of our family - the site just has a 'lovely' feel.
Just one more thing to mention. Thornton le Dale fish and chips. Were fantastic and only 1. 5 miles away. Bliss.

Our 2nd visit to this site and once again we were not disappointed. Clean facilities, plenty of hot water and a short walk into the forest. Large group of us with 4 dogs, all had a great time. Will visit again, without doubt before the end of the summer.
The owners who live on site went out of their way to rearrange things so the group could be pitched altogether. Site fairly busy but noise minimal.
The pot wash area with only one sink is the only negative, but this did not affect the enjoyment of the visit.
The number of children on site highlighted the child friendly atmosphere; many played at the entrance of the forest until late without creating any disturbance.
No pressure on day of departure to leave, unlike some sites we have visited, toilets and showers available even after you have packed up.
A great site, well managed in a great location.

We stayed here for a week over half term! Pitches are reasonably sized and it cost £60 for 5 nights, bargain for 2 adults and a child. Field wasn't cramped so space for the kids to play, they don't mind freezing your blocks for free.
Really nice beach at Saltsend and free parking, didn't go in Dalby Forest but heard lots about it and you can walk in from the campsite. The pub at the end of the road does cracking food but is a bit pricey.
Only downside is their is only 1 washing up sink and the showers aren't always hot.
Lovely campsite and will definitely be returning anyway!

Stayed here for a couple of nights in May. Chose the site because of it's proximity to Dalby Forest. The site was fairly quiet but it was mid week and I would expect it to be busy at weekends/school holidays.
The owners are very friendly and can give advice/info about the area. They are always available, if needed, as they live in the farm house on the site.
Great place for taking the dog as it takes 1 minute to walk into the forest from the site. Our dog loved it and was tired out at night from all the excitement.
The shower block and toilets were very clean and hot water was always available. There seemed to only be one sink for pot washing so this may cause queues during busy periods but the area is covered and it gives you the chance to socialise with the other campers.
Overall, this is a great site and I plan to return over the summer months

We stayed at Pexton Moor Farm to give us access to the Mountain Biking at Dalby Forest, the location was brilliant as the entrance to the Forest is literally 30 seconds away. We arrived late on the Friday but the lady who greeted us was very pleasant and showed us to the our pitch.
A word of warning, the ground was very hard and our standard tent pegs suffered as a result. We have now bought some 'Rock Pegs' and will use these next time we visit.
The showers were nice and hot and clean just what you want after 7 hours mountain biking. There was the occasional queue for toilets and showers which I imagine would be worse on Bank Holidays and similar.
We paid £5.50 pp per night in May which I thought was very reasonable.

Excellent site, Perfectly situated for families, couples or groups.
For those, like ourselves, going mountain biking, perfect is the only word to describe Pexto Moor, as the entrance to the forest is at the exit of the campsite, so no car fees.
Jim and Wendy can not do enough to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Highly recommended to all.

Have just returned from a four night stay at this lovely site with my three children and our dog. The site is generally level with some fantastic views and has clearly been subject to recent investment, including some hedging that will act to reduce the impact of the prevailing winds and very clean facilities.
The site is right on the edge of the Dalby Forest with beautiful walks right from the door and a stroll through the fields down to the lovely village of Thortnon-le-Dale with its meandering stream, basic shop (costcutter), several pubs with good food, a cafe and fish and chip shop.
Pickering is a short drive west with a lovely market on Mondays and a proper CO-OP supermarket as well as many tourist distractions.
Low Dalby is a hamlet within easy walking distance from the site where the Purple Mountain Cafe operates (nice coffee, basic cafe food) and there is also a mountain biking shop and bike hire centre. Also at Low dalby is 'Pulpitations' run by the artist Nikki Hampson. Nikki is a paper making artist and she sells items from her studio in the forest and also runs paper-making workshops. We had a great time at one of her workshops where we learned how to make paper and spent a couple of hours turning pulp into 'artistic(?)' creations.
There were very few units on site during our stay and I am at a loss as to understand why as this is a really lovely site. It is a basic site so don't expect any swings or a bar; as far as I and my family are concerned this is a distinct bonus, the children explored the nearby forest and played numerous games on site. It does say no ball games; however as the site was so empty Wendy identified an area where this rule could be relaxed and she indicated that she tries to do this as much as possible.
Everything was clean, the showers were free and very warm and there was plenty of space in the showers to get washed, dried and dressed without having to juggle towel, toiletries and clothes.
We will be back probably with bikes to explore the forest tracks.

This is the second time we have visited this lovely site. The site is clean and peaceful, with great views. Dalby forest is literally on the doorstep and the pretty village of Thornton-le-Dale is a short distance away.
There is so much to do and see in this area, that our long weekend went far too quickly.
Wendy is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. This is somewhere we will visit time and again.

Small site adjacent to the entrance of the Dalby Forest Drive.
We arrived to a very informal atmosphere, paid our £14 for a night and could basically park up where we liked. There is a lovely view facing away from the farm buildings onto open fields and countryside - whilst of course, there are walks aplenty in the forest itself. The pretty village of Thornton Le Dale is the nearest civilization; some 2 miles away and you can get there via public footpaths (some mud, plenty of hills!).
The showers/toilets are clean and functional, plus there are washing up facilities and waste/chemical disposal points.
This site seems to have five van arrangements - plus provision for a fair few tents (I think there were 26 pitches in all). We stayed midweek, it was very quiet - just maybe half a dozen other visitors.
Overall, we really liked the site; relaxed, informal, great views and the forest walks on your doorstep. It has a certified site feel - but with facilities maybe one step above absolute basic. Perfect for us and will certainly be back.
