The owners are very friendly and helpful always willing to stop and chat despite being very hardworking around their site.
The site is in a beautiful location, and very well maintained right at the entrance to the Dalby forest (although the entrance fee to the forest is way too high Walk or cycle through and save money) the views are absolutely fantastic it was a lovely place to stay.
Marred only slightly by other campers ignoring the no ball games rule on site, but then I suppose it was bank holiday. We were very impressed that for the 6 nights of our stay any noise stopped before the no noise deadline.
I would recommend pexton moor to anyone, go and try it you will be pleasantly surprised. Our only gripe and it is a small one. Is the hot water situation mentioned by other reviewers we only had 2 hot showers during our stay the rest just about warm or cold. Spoke to the owners about it and it seems they are thinking of upgrading the the hot water system to cope better. But this aside we will definitely be returning here.

The location is pretty good and excellent for access to the wonderful Dalby Forest - our mountain bikers were more than happy and even moderately fit Mum managed the previously mentioned (in other reviews) hill up from the visitor centre (low gears a must). This is also a good location for access to the coast, Pickering, days out in York etc.
We were a bit put out on arrival and our first impression wasn't good; first notice spotted at reception was 'No ball games on site'. Second one was 'Please pay on arrival' so we paid for the week up front before we had even been shown to our pitches. In many years of camping we never come across this before; perhaps the owners have been on the sharp end of early morning flitters? Well it still left a bad taste.
The site was level but quite lumpy; hard ruts mean that a good mattress is essential for campers to be comfortable. Ground was fine for getting pegs in and even after a fair amount of rain it was v well drained. Not much shelter, well none really, from westerly winds although newly planted hedges might sort this in years to come. Not the most generous pitch sizes we have come across and it got quite packed.
Not much for the kids to do here, somewhere to play ball games would make a big difference. There are power lines running right overhead so the no ball games rule is understandable (and not particularly enforced we observed). Many of the families on the site had bikes so a problem at one point with large kids haring about on their bikes in a group at speed but Wendy the owner put a stop to that. She works hard to sort out problems and keep the site looking good and running well.
Showers and washrooms basic but clean; 2 loos in the ladies plus one in the disabled / family washroom, one shower and the one more in the washroom (same in the gents I think), however I only had to wait for a shower once and had no problem with hot water although people leaving it later in the morning found it had gone cold; the owners are aware of this and plan to get more hot water online for next season. Only one washing up sink. Another one please! had to queue for this a few times.
Loos etc well maintained, never ran out of loopaper, paper towels or soap. Only one mirror, and sinks too small and badly positioned so not suitable for a proper wash.
The owners have been running the campsite for three and a half years and it is obvious that they are making improvements al the time.
We would come back but only if we leave booking our usual site too late again - this wouldn't be our first choice - basic washrooms, lack of play space and crowding means this site has been marked down.

Stumbled across this site last minute as were looking to be near Dalby Forest. Got there and the location is superb, literally at the entrance to the forest. Really warm welcome, superb location, excellent facilities which were clean and well maintained.
A good mix of tents and caravans. Would strongly recommend it to anyone. If you’re looking for a family friendly, well located site at the right price, you won't go wrong here!

Just back from 3 day stay at this site. Fantastic location, right on Dalby Forest, brilliant walks and scenery.
Campsite lovely and clean, level fields to pitch, but a bit stony for metal pegs. Owners really friendly and helpful, always around and checking facilities clean.
Shower and toilet facilities really clean, but no hot water after 8.30am, so if not an early riser, save the shower until the evening. Could do with another shower / toilet block as we were waiting for a while to use the showers and the site was not full, so in high season could be waiting a long time.
But will definitely visit again as it is a lovely site, in a fantastic location with really friendly owners. My daughters were totally smitten with the 2 lambs in the adjacent paddock, which are being hand reared by the owners. Shame they will be fully grown when we return.

We visited pexton moor farm, on 17th august 2009, we stayed 4 nights, but would have loved to stay longer, we took our 2 children who loved it, and did not want to come home, the site is in a great position next to dolby forest, and so clean, the showers were always hot and clean, we are booking again, cos we can't wait to go back, the best camp site we have been on.

We visited pexton moor for 6 days and (if work allowed) would loved like to have stayed 6 weeks.
The site is easy to find and the roads are good around the area.
The owners were very helpful on arrival, all of the pitches are large and we had plenty of space, even with an awning the was still plenty of space.
The shower block was clean with 2 showers in each, didn't have to wait for showers as the site isnt to big.
We had my wife, myself and 3 kids(11,8 and 5)and all loved it.
The views are outstanding and there's loads to do in the area.
The north Yorkshire railway and the forest have to be done(allow a day for each) and if the weather is decent the coast isnt far.
There is a local shop in Thonton le Dale ,2 minute drive, or its off to one of the bigger towns around.
If you have kids theres plenty of space for them to play without causing havoc, but in the evening its very quite and peaceful.
All in all a stunning site, stunnning area and would recommend this site 100% and would return to this site.

Just returned from Pexton Moor camp after spending 3 nights with our dog. We took a large tent and had booked electric hook up.
Happy to report that the rather negative reviews about the site are in our opinion wrong! The toilet block is modern and spotlessly clean despite the damp weather and the site being full. Loads of hot water no problems at all.
Site is very level and drains well and its literally on the entry to Dalby Forest drive - if you walk in then no admission charge!
We came home today ( Wednesday ) and wished we were still there!
Worth asking Wendy (who works hard to keep things right on site) about the new Granary holiday cottage they have converted to an excellent standard.Sleeps 6 in comfort!

What a lovely site. My parents come back year after year and I've been persuaded to take my family (me, husband, 3 year old son and our dog) for a few days away too and we had a great time in our tent. Lots of walks through the woods (keep checking your dog for mites tho, ours got one), lovely scenic views, helpful and friendly owners. Pitches are large too, we'd just bought a new tent and I was a bit worried it would be too big for a normal pitch but it was fine.
I've just read some other reviews and yes, the campsite would benefit from a play area and a plug for your hairdryer, but surely if you were that bothered about drying your hair you would get hookup like we did and as for a play area, kids make their own entertainment don't they, our 3 yr old loved it, especially having the sheep so close by. When we were there there was a family with 3 kids aging from about 8- 14 and they seemed quite happy, they had brought bikes with them too. Site great for all ages, there was a lovely older couple in their 80's too everyone is so friendly. Entertainment on your doorstep, loved it.
Especially loved the disabled toilet, makes showering a little boy who hates showering a lot easier! No noise after 10 but as well seasoned campers know, a bottle of wine or two is acceptable as long as it's coupled with low voices, hushed laughs and a game of cards or something quiet. Will definitely be returning, very happy with everything!

Just back and very impressed with the site (compact and bijou) location. Toilet block spotless as previous reviews have already noted.
As also commented upon previously the hot water was also gone by 8ish when I showered on both mornings. Having said that that at least I felt awake and refreshed.
We had camped as a large party in the overflow/rally field which was perfect for our needs especially as we had a large number of kids between 1 and 10. The main site would not have been suitable and we would have imposed ourselves upon the others there for a peaceful stay.
The owners even allowed us to use some outbuildings to plug in two fridges which we brought with us. It appears nothing was too much trouble.

We have been camping for over two decades and this site just keeps enticing us back.
The site is well situated and amenities are excellent. The owners are friendly and helpful and are genuinely concerned that everyone has a nice holiday.
The site is clean and spacious with clean showers and toilets. It is close to Dalby forest, quaint local villages as well as more busy seaside resorts. The North Yorkshire Moors are on the doorstep!
This site provides the ideal base for a truly excellent family holiday.
