I booked in for a 5 night holiday with my niece. The online communication was prompt and friendly. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Wendy when we arrived and knocked on the door, and she quickly took us to our pitch, which, as requested, was close to the amenities.
In terms of on site facilities, there are 3 loos, one shower and a disabled access bathroom (with walk in shower) on the ladies side, and I presume it is the same on the gent's side too.
There was never a problem with hot water despite us being there over the busy bank holiday weekend. We had showers at various times of day and there was always hot water (and no extra charge either!). There are a few minor things that would improve these facilities, such as more shelves and hanging points, but most importantly they were kept thoroughly clean and well stocked with soap and loo roll at all times.
There is a washing up sink with grey water disposal point, and a chemical disposal point, plus water tap, and a set of recycling bins along with the regular rubbish disposal point. There is an information board with a useful range of stuff about the area.
There are no ball games allowed and there is no play area- this attracted us as we wanted peace and quiet. There were plenty of families with children there, and they seemed to make good use of Dalby forest as the place to let off steam.
There are notices up asking for respectful noise limits and no noise after 11 pm. I was pleased to see the proprietor enforcing this with a large family gathering opposite us where the children had become rather extensively shrill: it was good to know that an active role was taken in asking for moderation in noise!
Thornton le Dale is the nearest village (about 2 miles away) and very pretty it is too, with a great fish n chip shop. Pickering is a larger place about 4 miles away, with a Coop supermarket of moderate size. More importantly there are lots of nice shops here: handmade chocolates, second hand books, arty crafty pottery and a great covered 'flea market' too.
There is a swimming pool in Pickering too but we did not get round to trying it out. It is also the home of the N Yorks steam railway; a superb day out and unique way of getting to Whitby for a day at the seaside. Whilst it was quite costly for an all day ticket, (£21 for adult) it was well worth the experience. Pickering also has some great eating places; from previous trips I can recommend either of the 2 Indian restaurants.
Dalby forest is right at the driveway of the campsite and is simply perfect for walking, cycling, nature trails etc etc and a journey into the forest with a picnic is a good way to spend a day.
All in all, this is exactly the kind of site I like, with good clean, reliable well tended facilities but at moderate prices (£11 per night for 2 adults, with tent and car). It would be a shame if the site became over-developed and lost its simple charm.
The quiet at night and lack of light pollution meant that the moon over the trees and the owls in the background created a really special atmosphere. Unfortunately we had to return home early due to some rather unseasonal high winds that risked damage to the tent, but we will certainly come again to this quiet, well run site.

Clean, clean, clean, clean. What more do we have to say! The facilities are cleaned thoroughly throughout the day. Lovely clean showers with plenty of hot water.
A picturesque site set in the heart of North Yorkshire. A must for any keen cyclists/walkers.
The owners offer a warm welcome and are on hand to help on this very family friendly site - even if you've forgotten pegs, tent or clothes!
We've been coming to this campsite for 4 years and have had a brilliant stay every time.
Although we maybe shouldn't say how good it is or we'll be fighting for pitches!
The only problem with this site is that you have to leave at the end of your stay.

We visited here last week for a couple of days and were very impressed with the site, the pitch sizes were plentiful and you were already allocated a pitch before you turned up which was good, campsite lovely, facilities very clean and tidy and the surrounding area beautiful with lovely scenery, couldn't fault this site at all and it is definitely one to go back to.
Despite there being a no ball game rule the kids didn't have a problem making their own entertainment ie Bikes, board games, cards, skipping ropes etc.

Pexton Moor Farm is ideally situated for Dalby Forest trails, would advise purchasing weekly passes to enter the forest rather than daily if you are there for a few days.
Camp is spotlessly clean, the facilities are cleaned a couple of times a day.
The camp will take your freezer blocks and refreeze them free of charge which is a great help.
There are a number of electrical hookups and the washing up area is covered and is also spotlessly clean.
The downsides of the camp were that in the 6 days we stayed there we could not get hot water for showers no matter what time of the day we tried, even going in before 8 am and after 10pm left us with luke warm water and after a day on the mountain bike trails we really wanted a nice hot shower!
Other downside was that they seem to be extending their living area and they started working on it around 8am in the mornings, cutting stone with electrical machinery that early in the morning wasn't a good start to my day!
There is no children's play area but there is a field where the kids can kick a ball around.
The local village is a 10 minute drive away and has a late night shop, town centre doesn't have a bank or cash machine though!

A very clean, well run site. Lovely views. We were two adults, two man tent and dog. We were perhaps rather close for comfort to our neighbours and the first two nights were spent next to a large tent with a rather lively Labrador. Luckily they moved on, the campsite thinned out and we had more room.
Facilities were clean, although only one sink for washing up. Very friendly owners and good walking area for old dogs. The two towns Pickering and Thornton le Dale are full of nice pubs although we were disappointed that the Indian restaurant in Pickering town centre did not open at the advertised time.
Excellent communications with the moors, steam railway and the coast. Definitely a site to revisit.

Perfectly situated for visiting the Dalby Forest(right beside the tollgate), North York Moors and beyond. Stayed for the Keane concert and was fortunate to get a pitch on the main family site. A point worth checking as I'm slightly more mature than your average gig goer. And would not have enjoyed mucking in with the kids in the other field.
A warm welcome from proprietor Wendy and helped with a flat battery by her father-in-law.
Pristine main site and facilities, although the showers were overwhelmed at peak times.
Fantastic site, gorgeous proprietor and a perfect base for touring the North York Moors.

Just got from this site and although the weather was rather inclement the site was wonderful (as it was last year). A true farm worker runs the site and is on hand from dawn to midnight.
We went as a group and although there wasn't any playground facilities, the overspill grassed area made sure that we could keep the children occupied with games of cricket and rounders. Other families used this for kite flying and dog walking so obviously a lot of open space.
The toilets were regularly cleaned and the water was hot most of the time (although occasionally cooler during peak times).
If you like mountain biking, and I don't, the entrance to the campsite was directly opposite the entrance to Dalby Forest (which recently held an international mountain biking competition). Dalby Forest also has picnic places and other cycling routes for children and the more cautious adults.
The site is about 1. 5 miles away from Thornton Le Dale where you can get daily provisions including the crispiest fish and chips I've had for ages. My only fault is that we cannot return again because the owner is limiting groups to 3 pitches in the future.

A nice quiet camp on the very edge of Dalby forest. Approx 2 miles from Thornton le dale so not too far from civilisation if you need provisions. Just down the road was a main 'a' road which ran over the moors to Whitby which took you through some beautiful scenery.
Our pitch was next to the entrance which backed on to a field with some highland cattle and their calves which we awoke to every morning to the sound of their mooing. The site amenities are a little on the basic side but tended to be clean and tidy (even at 3 in the morning), but I'm sure given time things will get better.
You had to be quick to catch the hot water as this ran out early depending on the washroom traffic. We arrived fairly early to set up and the site was almost empty but soon filled up with various shapes and sizes of tents and overall was fairly quiet making relaxing even easier.
The only drawback as far as I could see was there was only one sink in the dishwashing area so I think there could be at least another sink added to make things easier

Brilliant site, perfect location for Dalby Forest. Having spent many years seeking quiet locations to camp, this is on the list of 'must return'.
We received a warm welcome as we arrived, unfortunately I assumed that I would be able to pay by debit card, not so, but the owner was happy to wait until the following day when I could obtain cash from the nearest cashpoint in Pickering (short distance away).
The facilities were clean and well maintained, no complaints on this front. The fact that the facilities are limited means that the site would never be crowded.
No ball games great, who wants a ball bouncing around. Keep ball games on a playing field!
I found it hilarious that one reviewer said there was little for the children to do. Hello, there's a huge forest to enjoy. Perhaps camping was a bad option for them. There's always Butlins or Centre Parks if you need to be entertained.
It's some time since I've ridden in Dalby,it is much improved with some really great trails to explore. The bike hire shop/ cafe is excellent too, and the staff are really friendly and helpful.
Being on the edge of the forest meant that entry to the forest was FREE. The standard fee is £8 (well worth it), but the campsite was only £11, so it was a good deal all round.
The 14% down hill into Dalby to start the trails was a thrill but after an energetic ride round the blue run and part of the red, the climb back up to the campsite felt more like 24%.
The nearest supermarket in Pickering is the coop in the centre of town, but there is a brilliant Morrisons in Malton which is only 1/2 hour in the car. There's a good fish and chip shop in Thornton Le Dale which I succumbed to,knowing I would 'burn it off' on the bike the following day.
The only negative was the campers on the opposite side of the field who thought that by some vague chance the rest of the campsite wanted to listen the their music can never understand this). The owner of the site must have said something though as this ceased, well at least the volume was extinguished.
It wouldn't do for us all to like the same things, but at least if you find the perfect pitch, the chances are the people you meet will be like minded.

The site is great, the showers were clean and hygienic, the field is large and well laid out and the owners were very friendly.
No noise is permitted on the site between 11pm and 7am which is great when you have younger children you are trying to get off to sleep. There is one sink for washing pots etc.
The only negative side I could find if I wanted to is that I was lead to believe (via the caravan & camping club website) that the site only accepted around 5 units on the site and on the friday evening I counted 29! but this did not spoil our enjoyment of the site and we would definitely return there again. 8/10 rating
