What a great place and site. Was welcomed by a guest who was looking after new arrivals and she was a good one - with a nutty little dog.
Not sure if I met the owners or not as the lady who welcomed us was joined by another to collect the £13 for a night on hard surface with hook-up. Good value.
Like others have noted, showers really would be an improvement but as only stayed one night it was ok to do without.
Very good lamb stew at the local pub - guinness was a bit off though. - and a great location made for a relaxing evening.
Very much a recommended site by us - will be back.
Please think of installing showers though as would stay longer - two days without a shower would be a bit much.

Fantastic site with superb views, spent 2 nights and decided to stay a third.
This site is exactly what we bought our caravan for, peace and quiet but there is always something local to do if you need it, Llangollen, Bala, Snowdonia all within easy reach.
Wrexham and Chester are also 30-45mins away.
The pub, easy walking distance has fantastic views, we even found a little park in the village for our toddlers.
The toilets are spotless, no showers, but we used the one in the caravan anyway.
The chip shop 5 mins into Corwen is excellent, there is also a pizza takeaway and a Spar for provisions too in Corwen.
We shall be returning very soon, hopefully the weather will be as glorious as we have just had.
Recommend this site to anybody.

Stayed here over the Bank Holiday Weekend in two tents 2 adults and 5 kids ranging from 12yrs through to 2 months.
Basic campsite with no showers, but has a male and female washroom on the main site with a sink and hot running water. There are also bins here for recycling and an outdoor and indoor sink for washing up.
Portable loos on the camping field which occasionally ran out of loo paper but were regularly filled up, found them basic but clean. There is also a water point with the toilets and I think an elsan disposol point too.
We stayed on the camping field over the road from the main site, pitched close to the river with views of the steam train coming in and out over the weekend, good flat well drained site, rained most of Saturday and no where appeared to get waterlogged or boggy.
Kids were kept entertained by the river, skimming stones, flying kites, playing ball games, watching the trains and visiting the secondhand book shop etc.
The Grouse pub up the road is a nice walk.Seemed popular and friendly.
Good walk up the river on the public footpath too.
Warden on site who is very nice and the owner made regular trips round too.
Cost £12 per pitch and all in all we had a good time here and the kids all enjoyed it too. A proper camping experience would definitely go again.

We arrived and met the owner who told us to pitch anywhere on the second field. It is a very large flat field that is between the river and the railway. Beautifully picturesque.
However. The toilets were very messy, with no paper in the mens, and scarcely big enough to fit into. There were no showers (though it did say this on the info, on the second field there are no washing up facilities and no one and nothing to tell you where you find them.
The worst though was the price. £20 for 2 adults and 2 children with no electric. We will not be returning!

We had a very friendly and informative welcome from the wardens who advised us of the quietest area to pitch our tent due to a rally being on. The pitch, about 10 metres from the river Dee was nice and even with good ground for the tent pegs.
During our 1 night stay it rained throughout the afternoon and most of the night with some heavy downpours, but the ground was well drained, no flooding or muddy patches experienced.
The ablutions were very clean and tidy if not basic, showers would have been a big plus.
Lovely countryside with outstanding views and the picturesque Carrog Station complete with steam trains gave great character to the campsite.
The Grouse Inn is close by and a chippy in Corwen is a 5min drive. Llangollen, just 8 miles away by road (or take the steam train) is well worth a visit.
We thought that the £12 fee was a bit pricey, but it was bank holiday weekend.
We enjoyed our short stay and look forward to using this site again.

We have just returned from a two night stay at this site. It was clean and tidy, the toilets are in an old barn but there are no showers. It was Halloween and Thomas the Tank weekend at the Llangollen Railway. The weather turned awful on Saturday night and we got soaked when packing up. We visited Llangollen, Corwen and Ruthin, a walk to the Grouse Inn finished the weekend. We think you would need to visit this site in the better weather to fully appreciate the the local area and amenities, Well worth a visit.

Just returned from a long week-end, Good clean site with basic facilities but kept really clean. The views were lovely. Also the site is next to the station from where you can catch the steam train to Llangollen. The wardens were very friendly and helpful, great if you have had a long journey. The Grouse Inn is slightly further than 300yds up the road but the scenery getting there is worth the 5 minute walk.Good Chippy in Corwen(ask warden for menu). We will be returning again in February 2010 when I have my next holiday.

We had a lovely weekend at carrog. The site was easy to find. It was a great location with very pretty views there was a great pub just over the bridge,'The grouse' the food was really nice and reasonably priced the site was lovely and peaceful and plenty of spaces. There were no showers there but that didn't put us off. We will definitely be going back there again very soon.Next time we will take the train ride.

Just got back from my second visit to camp carrog this year they have put in a new sink for washing dishes with hot water the toilets were spotless and well maintained.
There were also more electric hook ups around the camp which is ideal if you don’t want cables running from one end of the camp to the other especial if there are young children running around.
The surrounding area is beautiful and within a few minutes walk a pub called the grouse inn that do excellent meals and of course Llangollen only a few miles down the road.
My only two negatives was the price I paid £12 per night for one man one tent and an electric hook up were as last year I only paid £8 per night and still no showers

We enjoyed 2 nights here. The site was busy with Rallies in the two additional camping fields but there was never really a queue for toilets or washing up and everything was clean.
The site owner was friendly and kept a close eye on noise etc. If he wasn't in the office he was instantly contactable by mobile phone.
The country side is lovely. My 2 daughters (8 and 5) enjoyed walking along the Dee, paddling and climbing the trees. We had a couple of drinks in the Grouse Inn which had nice views of the campsite and surrounding scenery. I would definitely go back here again.
