Fabulous location on the side of the River Dee.
Great pub (only five minute walk), The Grouse, serves good food at reasonable prices.
We were placed in a large field away from the main field. Very long grass which did not seem to have been cut for a while. The toilets in the field were only just adequate. Separate loos for M/F. As reported previously there are no showers.
Great, but tough nine mile bike ride to Llangollen on the back road. Be prepared to get off and push on occasions. Might be a good idea to bike in and take the train back.
£12 a night which we thought was a bit steep.

Visited with a friend for a spot of cycling in the area. We were greeted by a very friendly couple who directed us to a pitch at the rear of the site. The ground seemed well drained after all the recent rain and the tents were soon up and the kettle boiling. The facilities are housed in a barn and offer toilets, a washing up sink and a few leaflets about nearby attractions. The only thing missing is a shower, so if you tend to get muddy or sweaty the only alternative is a dip in the river just down the road. We enjoyed a good nights sleep as the site is nice and quiet, no doubt helped by the fact that the wardens live in a caravan in the middle of the site.
Overall this is a nice quiet site in an attractive location and we will definitely return in the future.

We went to this site and it was our first time ever in a touring caravan. When we arrived we were greeting by a lovely lady who told me where everything was on site and off site and made us feel very welcome.
The site is lovely and peaceful somewhere you go to get away from the hussle and bussle, there are some lovely walks and a great pub just down the round and the bonus is that there is a railway station right next to it with steam trains coming and going all day yet the site is still very quiet.
Will be going back this year again and would recommend it to anyone with or without children.

This is the first time we've been here and is now one of our favourites. Easy to get to just off the A5, benefits from the Steam Railway which takes you straight into Llangollen which is well worth it, and also just over the bridge there is The Grouse Inn which does good food. The site is basic with water, electric and CDP. The first Sunday of every month they have a market opposite the campsite which is really good. On the whole this is an ideal place to discover the beauty of north Wales and we will be coming back here.

Stayed at camp Carrog last year during the hot air balloon show in Llangollen on arrival to the campsite I was met by Judith and David the campsite owners who both were very friendly and welcoming I was given the choice were to pitch my tent and left to set my tent up a bit later they came back to see me to make sure I was all right and to see how many nights I was staying the prices were reasonable and I ended up staying the week
On site they have toilets which were very clean and a place were you can wash your plates etc which was also very clean. All in all a lovely campsite run by too very nice people. The surrounding area is beautiful great for walkers and bikes and only a few miles down the road is Llangollen and in the other direction you have corwen also worth a visit I also discovered a little gem of a place called plas newydd a country house with gardens and some lovely forest to walk around with a stream running thru it
Next week I'm going back to the carrog camp site and in really looking forward too it

Our first camping adventure as a couple.
A clean site with clean toilets. It's a pity that the site doesn't spend some cash and get some showers fitted. Two nights without a shower is the max!
It's well positioned to go on some nice walks, plus there's also the Grouse Inn just 4mins walk away.
We will definitely go back again for a nice weekend.

Nice quiet campsite steam train really nice views. Toilets very clean. Ideal for a relaxing break we highly recommend it to any family. Plenty of walks around the campsite. It is just a shame there wasn't an awful lot to do in Llangollen it's self.
Friendly people in the site office easy to talk to.

A very good site we had 4 kids 4 adults 1 dog 2 cars and the price was only £35 for the weekend. Plenty of electric hookups but advise pre book for them. There were 2 fields open when we went but they do have more if it gets busy. The big field runs next to the steam railway line and Carrog station itself and is very pleasant hearing the steam trains coming in.
The toilets are very basic with no showers and an outside sink for doing your washing but free hot water but that is why it is so cheap. There is a sport center up the road where we were told most people went for showers. The owners were very pleasant and helpful, would definitely recommend this site as it is very quiet with beautiful scenery all the way around, Shops are 5 to 10 minutes away and a pub 5 minute walk away and river Dee 100 yards away.

I do have a caravan but decided to go to this site with a tent. I was given a cup of tea by a chap in a caravan as soon as I got there. He was a regular there, he gave the site a good name as I well know The couple that look after it were very nice to me and kept the site very clean. There are 2 Porto loos and 2 toilets on the mains with hand basins and a washing up sink outside. They have lots of leaflets of places to go. A river that kids can go in near by and a pub you can look at them from. The site is basic as there are no showers but I found most people friendly some was reserved. Just remember a site is only as good as the people on it and the ones that run it. I had a good 4 nights there and would stay there again.

This is our 2nd stay at this site and we cannot praise it enough. The facilities are really basic just 4 toilets and sinks and one washing up sink but the location more than makes up for this. The site was very busy as it was a steam gala at the railway but the toilets were kept clean all weekend. We had a lovely meal at the Grouse pub. We already have plans to re-visit this year and would strongly recommend this site.
