 There were 3 reasons I chose this campsite:
1. ) Their electricity pitch price is all inclusive, so no annoying ‘pay as you go’ cards!
2. ) It is right opposite the beautiful Carrog Steam Railway that runs to Llangollen. We didn’t use, but enjoyed going over and watching the trains. The railway runs right past the campsite, but there are only trains on certain days. We chose a pitch right next to the line, but were disappointed to find that the locos were waaaay down in an embankment when they past and you didn’t actually get to see them go by the caravan.
3. ) Carrog Station Campsite was a lot more competitively priced than many sites in the area with electric hookup in close proximity to Llangollen.
The site is situated next to a farm and has a small office (when no one is there, someone is just a phonecall away if you need assistance).
There is a large barn which houses the toilets to one side, showers to the other. In the centre of this are 2 sinks for washing up dishes and even a recycling area for donated books and dvds, which I thought was a super idea.
The toilet facilities are basic (concrete floor etc) but very clean and we happily used them for our stay without an issue.
The showers are adequate and we were thankful of them. The only annoyance was that you were constantly pressing the button every 10 seconds to keep the water on. Not great with a head full of shampoo and a face full of suds! The far left shower was even worse and I had to keep my hand constantly pressed on that one! It was a nightmare! The water remained hot though and I only needed to shower a few times whilst we were away, so it was ok.
You can hire a fire pit for £15, but you may as well bring a bbq (also allowed until 10. 30/11pm. The farmer will come round with water and douse out any fire pits that are still alight!
5 minutes up the road (turn left out of the gate and walk or drive) and you will come to the river, where people often paddle to the left of the bridge. Just over the bridge is an extremely popular pub restaurant. You may need to book a table in advance on nice days and at weekends!
Llangollen takes about 20 minutes by car, Corwen is only around 10 minutes away and definitely worth a visit. Yum Yums serves pancakes and good breakfasts. There is also some great history in Corwen, such as the pauper’s workhouse and the widow’s knealing stones in the graveyard. They are only found in this part of Wales.
Portmeirion was about 1hr 10 mins away and so was Conwy.
Remember that there are currently 20mph speed limits in quite a few areas of Wales with houses, schools etc and we had to watch ourselves on a few occasions!

Have just enjoyed spending the last 3 nights at Carrog
What a lovely site, well spaced pitches
The site may be basic but everyone was very friendly and what a treat to see the steam train travel past
We will definitely visit again
Showers and toilets were well kept and well signposted as to where it all is
The only downside is there is no dog walking area as the roads are very narrow, but this will not deter us from returning

Picturesque site next to the River Dee and steam railway which ran to nearby Llangollen.
Friendly owner who showed us to our hard standing pitch located near to toilets and showers.
The showers and toilet block is In a farm shed and kept clean. Never had to queue.
Short walk to the pub for nice food.
Would definitely return

I love this campsite.
The setting is fantastic and the walk across the river to the pub is lovely.
Always a warm and friendly welcome and very helpful.
I’m a regular visitor to this site.

The campsite was small but basic, it had everything you needed for a pleasant stay.
The owner was a friendly fellow who met us on arrival to tell us where to pitch up.
The showers were hot and clean, what more do you need really?
There is a pub 5 mins walk away over the bridge, which was ok, it is very small so booking is recommended.

Very quiet
Nice showers
So close to river Dee
Will definitely be back.
Grouse Inn across bridge really nice food excellent. also Berwyn Arms down the road really nice, again great food

Lovely campsite in a beautiful area.
Toilets and showers well kept, excellent.
We had a level pitch on hardstanding.
Heritage railway ""next door". Good walks in the area.

Lovely campsite. Friendly welcoming staff and great location.
Facilities basic but everything you need is there.
Nice walks and a short bus from the end of the street to Llangollen.

Excellent, clean, quiet site convinient over the road to railway station.
Michael and Bethan so frendly and helpful, the site owners let us stay over our leave time to have Sunday lunch in the highly recommended Grouse pub 300mtr down the road with breath taking views of local scenery.
Will definitely be returning soon with bikes to roam round the quiet country lanes.
All positive no negatives.

Lovely welcome.
Clean & tidy.
Mixed toilets & showers in a big barn (part of a farm).
Disabled facilities.
Recycling rubbish bins.
Washing up sinks.
Dogs welcome.
Was allocated a grass pitch in back field with tents where it is uneven, so remember levelling ramps.
Views fantastic. Great for sunsets. For sunrises be in first field (hardstanding).
Pitched right next to heritage railway line but trains in a cutting so too low to see.
Station less than 5min walk away. Train takes you into Llangollen so saves the trouble of parking. Also there are horse drawn canal boat trips and plenty of shops.
Plenty to see in area.
