We went to Torvaig twice for it's such a beautiful campsite with stunning surroundings of the mountains. It's quite a small campsite and is generally quiet when we have visited.
Potree (the main town of Isle Of Skye)is only a five minute walk away and has a Somerfields shop which is useful because there are no shops currently on site. The restaurants in portree were briliant and served great food such as their special burgers called 'coolin' burgers (-beef burger, bacon, cheese and onion all in one) they were very popular.
The campsite owner came round to collect the tariff at around ten in the morning or around six at night. The shower blocks and toilets are a bit cold and need updating but were kept clean.
When we went there weren't many midges and the campsite was sheltered by trees and hills though an owl sat in the tree above our tent keeping us awake. Overall we will return to Torvaig again in the future.

This is really a site to use as a base for exploring Skye. The facilities are clean and it is as cheap as chips but it is not really a place for relaxing as it does get very crowded. It is ideal for visiting Portree, which is by far the best town on the Island and is only a short walk down the hill. We were lucky that our stay coincided with the Skye Highland Games (mid August) - which made the stay all the more pleasurable. I would recommend Arriba Cafe for something to eat - especially if you are a vegetarian as it has a nice selection in addition to meat / fish dishes.

Luckily we didn't have too many midge problems when we stayed here, however it did get quite crowded in august when we stayed. The campsite itself is a really nice site with excellent views. The owners were also very friendly and we liked the idea that you just pitch where you want and pay the next day! Also, after 2 weeks of travelling around scotland, the washing machine and dryer both came in handy, and not at an extortionate price! As mentioned in other reviews, the site is sloping, and not just a wee bit so it can be quite tricky to find a level patch to pitch on! We would definitely come back here again, but much earlier in the year to avoid the crowds.

Stayed for 2 nights instead of 1 Found the site to be clean and very reasonably priced. Friendly site manager who comes round in the morning and collects the rent. Site slopes but the hard standings are quite level. Good position for visiting Portree and for touring Skye. Would stay there again

This is a great site, with a friendly warden, cheap (£3 per night), clean facilities, handy for Portree. The site was sloping in places, and could probably get quite midgy, but then where IS midge-free on Skye in June? Would definitely stay there again.

Fantastic! Stayed here 2 nights @ £3 pppn - amenities were clean and close by - the young chap who runs the site is very helpful and friendly and obviously takes pride in his work. Portree is about 15 mins walk away downhill - add an extra 5 or 10 mins for your journey back! Unfortunately there is not shop on site - I think they would do a roaring trade in midge repellent! However, if you are camping I think this is the perfect place to make base for your adventure around Skye!

Nice, clean but basic site for a night. Sanatary building was sufficient and warden was friendly. Came around every evening to collect the campingfares. We were late to arrive in the afternoon and had the last pitch for our motorhome on a rather crowded fenced field. We couldn't stand level. Convenient for shops in Portree ans good sights on Skye. Not for more than one night IMHO. Great for stopping over during a tour of Skye. Next day, follow the A855 further around the Isle untill Uig. Good site there as well.

Excellent site. Within a short walking distance from Portree town centre (about 15 mins with a good stride!). Lovely location looking out across Skye's Cuillin mountains in the distance. Can't believe that they only charge £3 per head per night with free hot water. Facilities basic, but clean and work! Great location to explore most of Skye from, although if you are Cuillin walker then you should pick a site a little further South. Quiet site - no vehicles allowed after 11:30 (park just up the road if you're late back). Finding a flat pitch on the top fields is tricky but achievable, middle field almost completely flat. Would not hesitate to return.

August 2005 Nice site, spectacular scenery and freindly owner. Opened up field just for us as had frame tent and needed hookup. Showers/ toilets clean. Disabled facilities within normal block - caused me a bit of a problem as my male assistant has to come into the ladies with me! Ramped access to toilets a bit steep and paths not great for manual wheelchair users. Campsite basic but prices good.
