July 2004 Camped here with my two sons, we had a super time. Very friendly site and the facilities were clean and plentiful. We were lucky in two respects, magnificent views of the Cullins for the whole week and not many visits from the dreaded midge. Ask the friendly/helpful warden about the walk that takes you up the road away from Portree but eventually brings you back into the town via some classic scenery. Overall I would recommend this site, its location is ideal for getting around Skye.

June 2005 Have just had our first visit to Skye and stayed at Torvaig campsite. We selected this site after reading previous reviews on this web site as well as the fact that it is situsated close to Portree which suited us as we wanted to be close to shops, restaurants etc. We were extremely lucky with the weather and saw the Island at its best. The site is immaculately kept with excellent toilet facilities. The young guy who runs the site was very pleasant and takes an obvious pride in the way he keeps the site. On top of that it was one of the most reasonably priced sites we have stayed on. Having had a taste of Skye I have absolutely no doubts that we will return and I will certainly stay at Torvaig again.

May 2005 We spent three days at this campsite. We were able to find a reasonably level pitch for our motorcaravan although it is not easy to find level pitches on this site. It is an excellent site . Well run with a very helpful young man looking after ones needs. They do not take advanced bookings which I like as it gives you a chance for first come first served basis. Charges are very reasonable and clean facilities. We will certainly be returning.

May 2005 Exceptionally clean and well kept site run by a very cheery owner. Free (very) hot showers and toilet facilities. The site is a pleasant 15 minute walk down to Portree which has great shops and cafes. Very cheap at £3 per person!
The only minor negative point, as mentioned before, is that the site is on a gentle slope - not really a problem though as there are still quite a few flat areas and most of the site is still flat enough to pitch a tent or park your caravan. I didn't hear any of the 15 or so motorhome-owners complaining!

Annually for 16 years I first camped on Skye 16 years ago and have stayed at the Torvaig Campsite for the past 9. I visit the Isle of Skye regularly, either on my motorcycle or in my car and always camp here. I've always enjoyed the site because of its excellent facilities and fantastic views. The site is always well looked after and has always met my expectations of a good place to stay.
The main town of Portree is just a few minutes walk away where there are superb restaurants, shops, pubs, etc; all within easy reach which is handy.
As an author, I find myself invigorated with ideas and plots for my novels, which is why I frequently come to Skye. I can often be seen sitting by my tent with my laptop humming away as I write. I always feel relaxed here and I will continue to visit on a regular basis.
I recommend this site to one and all for its excellent facilites, friendly atmosphere and its great location.

July 2003 A great site- on a hill but we managed to get the caravan level sideways on. Spotlessly clean and looked after by an efficient young local chap. Facilities very clean, grass cut every day. Spectacular views to the Black Cuillins. Iron-age hillfort behind site offers the best views. We left a site further north with poor facilities where we paid £14 a night. Here we paid £9 a night. Weird. Easy walk (easier cycle) downhill into Portree and the pubs/shops. Not so easy walk back up the hill afterwards!

July/Aug 2002 From Portree take the A87 to Staffin for one and a half miles. Site situated on right. 90 pitches spread over 3 acres. Eighteen electric hook-ups (hard standing and grass) The site is set on a hill and as far as I'm concerned is it's only bad point, virtually no flat pitches. The site has 2 very clean toilet/shower blocks, both with ramp access and one with showers for the disabled (M & F). Free showers, shaver points and hairdryers. Chemical disposal is also available. No shop. The laundry area has sinks for washing-up and a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a payphone on site. The site was very busy with the majority being walkers, we were the only big family tent. The main advantage of the hilly situation is the views over Portree to the Cullins . There is a field at the rear of the site which was higher again and was a popular place to sit and admire the views.
