I agree with most of the other reviewers, the site is lovely and the new facilities are a very good standard but the food was disappointing for the price. The food was ok, and it was nice to be able to stay on site, but it should have been cheaper or better. I must say though it was a very good pint of Adnams and the cheapest I have ever seen, and we've been coming to this area of Suffolk for over 20 years. The wash facilities were basic but fine for our needs
We loved our pitch. We were under the trees but at the sea side of the site so had the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep every night.
We were glad we were no where near the play park. We have two young children and I wouldn't dream of leaving them in the park by themselves, although this didn't seem to worry most people. As other reviewers said, I believe these were regular visitors to the site. I had to help a two year old who hurt himself. When I called out to ask who was with him his sister stepped forward. She was only 4! No idea where the parents were and this wasn't the only time such incidents occurred.
I think we were lucky where we were pitched that we were at the edge of the site, near the steps down to the beach, and the sound of the sea tended to drown out any noise in the evenings, It was very tranquil sitting outside the tent with a glass of somthing cold, listening to the sea and watching the sun go down.
The shop was well stocked and even had little pocket money toys for the kids and a decent loaf of bread.
The staff were all very friendly and even gave me all the ice from the bar for my ice cream maker.
We walked all around the site and there are some lovely statics and lodges and we found most people very friendly. On our last night a couple were building a small fire on the beach and we sat with them and their family and chatted whilst darkness fell. A lovely memory that will stay with me for a long time.
So much to do in the area, but others have already pointed out lots, the brewery in Southwold has an excellent kitchen shop and a great tour, and a visit to Aldeburgh is a must of you like fresh fish and there is one of the best seconds hand bookshops ever.
We would definitely visit this site again, and keep away from the playground!

Spent a week at this site and absolutely loved it. The location is first class, beach on one side and countryside on the other. Loads of wildlife to enjoy, rabbits/squirrels running about and even red deer came to visit. Lots of nice walks and cycle paths close by.
Had a slight problem when we first arrived as the previous camper was still pitched on our plot but it was sorted out and after waiting for over an hour, we were eventually able to pitch up and start enjoying our stay.
Site is well equipped and facilities were of a good standard, although toilets could benefit from a coat of paint. It was quiet Monday to Thursday but got more noisy at the weekend when families arrived and the tent area filled up. Could imagine it could be very noisy during the six weeks holiday. All staff and wardens were very helpful and there was always someone around if you had a problem.
Would recommend this site and would visit more often but it's a five hour drive. But well worth it.

Beautiful position near the coast with steps down to the beach.
During the week the site was moderately booked and was very quiet and the facilities were kept very clean and were more than adequate, though it was annoying to have to lean out of the shower to restart the water each time.
However at the weekend all the tent pitches filled up with some large groups and by Sunday the bins by the washing up area were overflowing and the wash block needed cleaning more often.
We were disappointed to be given a shady pitch under the trees after having requested a sunny pitch. This was compensated for by having a nice view of the sea but each morning huge amounts of pigeon droppings were on the tent roof. As we have a tall, tunnel tent we couldn't get much of it off until we took the tent down. We then had to get it out again when we got home to give it a thorough clean.
The shop is well stocked but would be helpful if it stayed open after 5pm, especially as the nearest supermarket is some distance away.
We only had coffee in the beautiful new restaurant so can't comment on the food.
A lovely site but maybe needs a bit more attention to the needs of campers as well as the occupants of their beautiful lodges.

This is a woodland site so your satellite dish will not work. The toilet block has been refurbished but the cubicles are too small, and don't collapse in the shower because the hinged seat blocks the opening of the door. The shop was sparsely stocked, not much in the way of fresh vegetables or meat, also no beer or red wine, and if you want a newspaper you have to order it the day before.
If you like peace and quiet then this is the place. The beach was accessed easily by two flights of wooden steps and was usually deserted. There are no nearby pubs or shops but the on-site bar and restaurant is excellent.
The RSPB's flagship Minsmere bird reserve (known locally as 'misnomer', apparently) is either a short walk up the beach or is a longer drive there.

This site is in a great position just a couple of minutes walk down the stairs to the beach and within easy and safe cycling distance of Dunwich Heath and Dunwich village (very little traffic on the road to the latter).
The restaurant/bar was really impressive (very modern and lovely toilets!)and the food was good quality and value.
The shower block although clean and nothing specifically wrong (toilet flushes and hand dryers a little tricky for kids) was a little dated however - especially in comparison with the other facilities. Could do with a proper refurb really to bring it in line then this would be a 10/10 site.
The shop was well stocked and the bike hire reasonably priced with a good selection of bikes and a trailer available for little ones.
At first we thought it was nice being under the trees until we got up after our first night to find the biggest lot of bird poo ever on our tent. Not an insurmountable issue, but made for a longer cleaning up exercise on packing up than usual. Would return but probably to a pitch away from the trees.

Great site.
Being situated next to the sea is a bonus. Good size pitches and well maintained. Staff very friendly and good facilities. The restaurant although felt a bit formal for a campsite was very good, the breakfast was excellent. Nice upstairs outside bar area. You need to book well in advance as they do get booked up quickly.
Although it was a bit chilly when we went we had a great time. Our pitch was in the wooded area, we were given several to choose from and it was lovely to fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

Our second visit having stayed in Oct 10 also. We absolutely loved it - great location with plenty of walks and things to do in the area. Campsite really nice with tent pitches on wood chippings so nice an dry.
Free electric hook up also on some of the plots. We found the washrooms really good with excellent showers and washing up facilities. Lovely complex on site with bar and restaurant.
We had a nice meal but not especially cheap but really nice all the same. Our only complaint - lots of pigeons in the trees above our tent and car meant we had to do some cleaning up afterwards!
Southwold near by for a great day out. Nearest supermarket is a decent Waitrose in Saxmundham (15 mins away).
Would definitely return again - look forward to it! Really friendly staff. Really reasonable prices also.

Have just returned from this site and although it has a fabulous location, the visit left us feeling a bit disappointed due to the park itself. It seems to be more focused on it's residents than on tourers.
It has an almost luxurious new clubhouse with bar, restaurant, roof terrace and top-notch toilets - no-expense spared feel to it. However, the tourer's washing facilities are quite basic by comparison.
Showers are free but ran out half way through, forcing me to step out into the changing area and press the button again for more water. Hair dryers needed 50p to work. Old-style hand dryers were very weak.
The pitches were disappointing, with tourers having the choice of either sunny pitches beside the road and children's playground, or shady pitches under trees.
We selected to be away from the noise of the playground and so ended up with the van getting covered in birds' mess. But the location is really good as you can be walking through Dunwich Heath, or be down on the beach, in a matter of minutes from the site.

We have just returned from a trip to Suffolk and stayed two nights at this site. We had a very friendly welcome and had choice of several sites. We chose to overlook the sea at the cliff edge and were thrilled with our choice. The whole site was very well maintained and there were lovely walks through woodland all around the site. The facilities were very clean and well maintained - we were very impressed and will definitely return. If you want to visit Dunwich museum - a tip - it does not open till April! We will look forward to returning at a later date.

Surprised indeed, to read some reviewers surprise at this being a woodland site. It being situated within Dunwich Forest would tend to suggest trees and shade may be predominant.
The location on the edge of Dunwich heath, Minsmere nature reserve and as close to the beach as you could ever wish to be. Is difficult to beat. Our pitch was literally 2 minutes from the sand/shingle foreshore, accessed down a substantial but steep flight of steps. Difficult to peg the tent firmly due to the nature of the woodland floor, but well protected from the elements. All the facilities run on timers. So there's some energy conservation going on here. All kept immaculately clean. The showers are awesome and need to be experienced.Very therapeutic. Some issues with infrastructure degradation from over use? Such as taps not working or not shutting off, toilet flush mechanisms broken and our hook up tripped out twice in our 5 day stay. Very promptly resolved I might add.
Dunwich Heath is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers with a lattice work of footpaths and bridleways. Brilliant facilities at the National trust centre with plenty of parking, information, cafe, toilets and gift shop.
Not as remote as some have said, just a little research into the area required if you need a fix of junk food, supermarkets and satellite TV.
