Just arrived back from a weekend at Cotton Arms, the pub is in a lovely part of Cheshire.
On the plus side it is a great camping & caravanning site, it is very reasonably priced at £15 with electric or £10 without.
There are mens & ladies separate toilets outside of the pub + 3x showers. There is a great play area for the kids & a bowling green for everyone.
There are 2 shops nearby & a lovely well kept pub across the road. On the downside the Cotton Arms is a bit old & (scruffy) inside & out. It could do with a good cleaning & would be a good idea to have someone tidying up outside.
They have a young lad working for them who needs to learn some people skills (training needed).
On the whole it is a lovely place in Cheshire & I would like to think we will return in the future to see if the owners have taken notice of this review.

Stayed 5 days on this site. Lovely location right next to canal. Very good food in the pub and at £6. 95 for a two course meal it was excellent value.
The facilities were good as well, there are 3 showers, one of them is very large so would be suitable for a family as it had a toilet and sink in it as well. Water hot & plentiful.
Shop 500m down the road selling almost all you could want.
I would thoroughly recommend this campsite.
Good campsite for rallies as it has a very large field.

We have just returned from spending 4 nights on the Rally Field with 60 Motorhomes. The site also has hard standing pitches with electric, which we did not use.
The field was plenty large enough to accommodate that number with ease with a minimum of 4 metres in all directions around each unit. The grass was nicely cut and the ground was firm. To be firm after all the rain that had fallen over the week makes it an A1 site, bearing in mind that some of our Motorhome units weighed over 9 tons!
The landlords of the Cotton Arms, Joe and Julie, were always pleasant and accommodating, calling around regularly to make sure all was well and asking if there was anything they could do to make us comfortable.
The previous post must have been on a different site. For one thing, the local shop was a mere 500 yards away and held a good stock of everything, including gas.
The Cotton Arms does an excellent food menu and has a 'Specials' board at £6 for 2 courses. I can recommend the lamb shank as top dog food. The service is quick and everyone is visited part way through the meal to make sure all is well.
As Joe says, there are plenty of toilets, which are even big enough to get changed in if you have to. There are three good showers with one of them being massive and room for half a dozen people, with room to spare.
If you are a large party there is also the Pavilion for use, which seats around 80-100 people easily and even has a stage. There is also a small bar in there.
The location of the camp site is fabulous, being right next to the tow path of the canal, where you can walk forever in either direction.
My wife and I would certainly recommend the site if you are looking for a peaceful site with all the amenities you will need close at hand.

Just spent four great days at the site. Everyone from the owner and landlord of the pub, the chap who runs the local shop ( just 100 yards along the road with a very good selection of just about everything ! ) were absolutely super. We found the site very well maintained and at a price hard to find nowadays.
Facilities on the site are basic but more than adequate and during our stay we had absolutely no cause for complaint.
We intend to return there next year and would happily recommend it to one and all

We have just got back from a 2 days camping trip. Although it did not stop raining we had a really good time. The owners were very friendly and on hand if needed.
The shower blocks were ok, you buy a token from the bar and its 1 pound for 8 mins. The token machine is outside the door so it would be worth taking someone to be with you so you can get ready then they can put it in for you. You can pitch anywhere on the field and are allowed a fire if its off the ground.
There is another pub over the road from the cotton arms, called dusty miller which was lovely, the staff were friendly, the actually pub was very nice and the food was absolutely gorgeous. We also had a breakfast at cotton arms which was lovely and again staff very friendly. It was nice the pub had put a party on for the children in the pavilion, which was good because of the bad weather.

We stayed here for two nights over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.
The campsite is located within a very small village. We did not even come across a local shop during our stay and there was no shop on site.
The campsite itself is in need of a bit of attention. The grass was quite overgrown for example. Toilet facilities are not great. There's one male toilet and two females in the actual toilet block. The toilets are very, very small. I tried to get changed in them but there was not enough room. There was only one tiny sink within the womens toilets which made teeth brushing difficult. Although the toilets could do with a major update they were clean.
As mentioned in the other reviews, the showers are token operated. This is not made clear at all on the site, they need to get a sign up to make this more clear. I think it would be impossible to go and get a shower on your own as the token machine is on the outside of the block, and as soon as the token is inserted the shower starts. I had to get undressed etc and ask somebody else to put the token in once I was ready so I had enough time to wash. The shower lasted 8 minutes, and was really hot. Again, showers were clean but as far as we could see there were only two.
When we arrived back from a day out on our second day the campsite was unbelievably full. Because there are no proper pitches, and visitors are just told to go wherever they like, we had other campers very close to us. There are simply not enough facilities for this amount of people.
On our first night we were approached by the owners. We were a family group of 8, ranging from 23 to 45. We were told the campsite was not used to 'young people' and to make sure we kept the noise down. I thought this was a bit rude, especially as people in another tent on the site was singing and playing music til at least 2am both nights without anything being said.
Overall, the site is okay for short visits but probably more suited to caravans with proper facilities.

Management response: Grass long - the grass is cut on a by weekly basis. We hadn't had it cut that week to stop it being walked through all the tents and caravans. I can't win!! Toilet facilities - there are 3 showers, 4 ladies toilets. 2 gents toilets and a large family shower and toilet. Noise - we operate a no loud noise or music after 10.30pm as we are a family site and this is monitored quite strictly. So loud noise and music till 2am simply isn't true as I would have received complaints from other campers. If you want to stay up all night playing loud music the Cotton Arms isn't for you. As for been busy - I accept that it was exceptionally busy but it was a one off as it was a double bank holiday - I do apologise for being very popular. We have a three acre camping field so there is always plenty of room for people to camp. Can you please read previous reviews and not just Hcafc_laura as I think she is looking for a 5star hotel not a camping field which at £10 a night per tent offers unbeatable value for money. |

Arrived in the afternoon after phoning ahead to check that they had a pitch available for a couple of nights.
Pitch fees were £15 with EHU which we thought reasonable. Nice pitch backing onto the canal which was great for walking our dog, oh and the pub is fully dog friendly.
Had a meal and a couple of drinks each costing a little over £30.
Went to use the lovely new showers to find there was no power and on investigation we were told that you need a token to use the shower which cost £1 each for only eight minutes. We thought this a little expensive and as the slot for the token was outside the shower cubicles you had to get everything ready and down to bare minimum clothing, insert your token then enter your cubicle, undress and switch on the shower so actual shower time is less than the eight minutes. There is also no indication of the time remaining. We only just managed to get rinsed off in time and at a £1 a go you don't want to have to get another token which would mean getting dry, dressed and going into the pub. There were no signs informing us about the showers and we weren't told on arrival.
We do think that most campers would use the pub at least once during the stay so think the showers could be complimentary if still timed and move the coin slots inside the cubicle.
The area is lovely, but as we don't have our own facilities onboard, we won't be visiting this site again.

We stayed at the Cotton Arms for two nights to check out how my self converted camper van performed(Very good actually). The first contact by phone assured me that we were going to a very friendly campsite.
On arrival we parked up and my lad went fishing on the canal.
Early evening we visited the pub for a meal and a 'few' drinks (LFC v EFC derby was on later). The meals could not have been better, I had fish and chips and my lad had gammon, all freshly prepared and obviously cooked and prepared with thought.
The meals the next night were just as good and on special offer on a weds and sat 2 courses for £5 which was great value.
We paid £15 a night with electric, and the pitch size was more than adequate. We pitched right by the canal so we could watch the boats go by, and yes the church bell does chime every 15 mins but you get used to it, it's not that loud.
The owners and bar staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating for our two visits to the pub, and the regulars were equally pleasant to us.
Lovely warm open and log fires ensured a really comfortable few hours enjoying the well kept real ales (You must try the Odd Ball ale) as canal boat patrons and locals gave it a real homely feel, a proper pub in my opinion. Dogs are also very welcome.
Washing facilities have obviously been improved a bit since earlier comments, and we found it ok for our needs, we were camping after all.
The local area has only one other pub which was ok for a quick pint, but I didn't have a payday loan to pay for a meal there.
I would definitely visit here again as we really felt at home and the staff work hard to make you feel welcome. We never felt rushed or bothered in any way.
Well done to all at the Cotton Arms for a great stay.

We took advantage of the brilliant weather for a one night visit to the Cotton Arms. The campsite was basic, a field behind a pub, but what else do you need? The pub was lovely, food reasonable, play area was really neat and pleasant. The loos were small but clean and modern, and never busy.
There was a bluegrass festival on when we were there, adding some music into the mix too.
Wrenbury village is really pretty, with an excellent shop just 2 minutes walk. The only thing that might bother people is the church that chimes the quarters all night, and the cockerel that crows from about 5am. This didn't bother us at all, we thought it added to the charm of the place, but it might bother some.
At £10 a night this is a really good value campsite, I would recommend it to anyone for a short break.
And the stars are amazing on a clear night - wonderful place!

Me, my family and friends of all age groups stayed here for the August Bank holiday, (Friday to Monday, ) and loved it that much we all travelled back 3 days later for another weekend. If I were to have gone off some the comments here, then I believe I would have missed out on what I call the ideal place for a camping trip. My worry if I am to be honest about this site was the read up about the toilets…however I was not disappointed on arrival. Our group (19 of us) had a major saving camping here as you only pay for the tent (£10).
The field is surrounded by a hedge with a gateway leading to the pub the Cotton Arms where the campsite is located behind. There are a few well kept caravan pitches to one side of the grassed area for tents. There is a canal that runs alongside the green privet that encases the field, with barges coming and going. It is very scenic and tranquil for those who like to get away for some peace and quiet. Okay there is a church up the road and the bells do toll, but to me this made the stay in Wrenbury unique, and if you didn’t have a watch, then happy days…you knew what time it was. This is the country so expect country sounds, from the occasional moo to cockerels crow.
The pub is where you head to shower or wash. You can use the outside toilets or the ones inside the building (your choice. ) Toilets are clean and pleasing. There is a water tap sited on the field. Running hot water can be obtained from the sink you wash the dishes in which is placed directly outside the kitchen of the pub where the meals are cooked.
The Cotton Arms is a country pub with open fires serving hot and cold meals. It has a pretty smoking area with benches and tables surrounded by potted plants and flowers. The games room consists of comfortable leather seats where you can enjoy a pint of what they call Real Ale while you play darts, pool, or watch TV. The play area for kids is well kept and has seating plots for adults to have a drink. Play area only consists of a climbing frame though. Another amusement is the bowling green adjacent to the pub, so I guess you could watch the locals play, or campers if they were allowed (not sure about that. ) If you take a walk out from the field you have a public house called the Dusty Miller on the corner, a stones throw from the Cotton Arms, where you can sit and watch the barge owners get off and operate the bridge to open for the boats to pass through. In the other direction from here, not even a 5 min walk from the campsite is the village shop selling everything, even down to gas bottles. Will I be going back…to right I am. I have fond memories of the place because this where I saw Liverpool beat Bolton. Yay roll on next year because Wrenbury he we come.
