I agree totally with the previous reviewers comments. This is a lovely site in a lovely place. It has the benefit of the beautiful forest and it's amazing walks and cycle trails straight off site. We have 4 dogs that had more exercise than they've probably ever had on a holiday. Mostly we walked through the many forest trails from the site. Another day we drove a short way, parked, and then walked to Tintern Abbey, after walking part of Offas Dyke. We also walked from the site to the Steam Railway station at Parkend, and drove to Lydney, where there is a further Steam Railway station and the Harbour Walk.

The site owner is a very amiable man who works hard looking after the site, despite the folly of one or two campers who leave lights on and doors open in the heated toilets and showers, something they surely don't do at home? There is no phone signal on 02, weak on 3, however you can buy wifi cards for different lengths of time and the signal/speed is very good. There is food waste, and rubbish recycling on site and pitches have food waste bins (apart from our pitch, no. 9, which had gone missing!).

There are plenty of shops within a short drive, Spar, fish shop, butcher and for those requiring more, a Tesco in Lydney. There are castles, caves and other attractions within a reasonable driving distance.

We would definitely recommend this site to anyone who enjoys a peaceful country retreat with great walks in a natural environment, but within easy distance of historic sites and attractions.

Well, we couldn't wait till next year, had 3 days here again, wish it was more, We will be coming back again as it is such a lovely quiet site.

The sound of the birds in the morning is wonderful to wake up to, the forest walks are brilliant, again no queueing for the toilets or shower.

Visited Hereford, Ross, Lydney all within 1 hours drive, the owner is such a nice helpful guy, so with that! see you next year.

Kids all grown up, well, youngest almost 15. Which just got him inside the gates of this tucked away caravan site (14 minimum age limit).

This was the first time we had opted for the 'small, family owned' style site. And what an absolute pleasure it was. Only 10 pitches, all manicured to perfection, one loo for the ladies, one loo for the gents, one shower to be shared between both, all kept clean and fresh and never a queue for any!

VERY limited signal (if any at all) on your mobiles, so expect a real 'Get away from it all' break. Owner has just about every gadget available for obtaining TV signal though, available for a very modest rental fee of £5 for the week.

On site, you'll find a 'garage sale' where visitors may donate unwanted items. These items are then offered back for sale and the proceeds donated to the local chapel. An abundance of dvd and books are offered here so well worth a browse!

We quickly discovered that nothing was far away from 'base camp'. Nearest shop (generously stocked with all kinds of everything); 5 mins. Likewise nearest chippy! Wonderful forest walks ON THE DOORSTEP and ALL ELSE that the forest has to offer only a 'stones throw' away. Go Ape, Segway, Kayaking, Cycling, Picnic/BBQ parks, INCREDIBLE walks. This evolved into one of our most successful and pleasureable hols, ever.

Reading past reviews, others have described this place as 'a gem' and I couldn't agree more. One reviewer jokes that they were conflicted as to whether or not they should reveal this 'find' or keep it to themselves. I'm hitting the 'submit review' button before I start to overthink it ;-)

What a lovely site, what a beautiful area, only one shower an one mens 'n' womans toilet but never had any problem, John was very friendly, and had a ongoing garage sale which was brill, the f/chip shop in Bream is very good (3 min drive), Symonds Yat, Ross on wye, Monmouth and Hereford all within an hour and the forest was beautiful, also for £1 a night you hire a freesat box, the tv and phone signal are poor bliss!, would recommend this site to all that like peace an quiet, hopefully be back next year

Very nice site in beautiful location, in thr midst of the Forest of Dean. Peaceful site with birds thoroughly enjoying the bird table offerings. Very clean toilets and shower. No shops near but within a 2 or 3 mile radius, and a few miles further gets you lidl etc.

Pub or restaurant you will need to travel to, but within a few miles.

No internet or phone access, , but can hire a digi box to obtain tv.

This we found was an absolute gem of a small campsite. Set in a rural location pretty much surrounded by forest and forest walks right on the doorstep in every direction. Our dog like us loved the walking. We also had bikes, by avoiding some of the steep hills you can soon get on plentiful cycle trails through the forest ideal for the recreational cyclist.

The site itself has well terraced hard standing pitches. It is worth making sure you tell the very helpful and always available owner the size of the unit as some pitches are slightly difficult to get into if you are on the larger size.

Facilities are perfectly adequate with separate male and female loos. There is a separate electric shower where your 20p will give you a plentiful supply of hot water.

In addition to good recycling and information there is also a garage full of bric brac for the camper where funds go to the local chapel. We didn't try the pub which is a mile up the road.

Don't work on keeping in touch with the outside world. Internet can be bought but 4g intermittent, radio reception poor, DAB non-existent, T V - use the aerial provided. So perfect for the quiet break

Add to all this a very reasonable price structure it is a site we will look to revisit on a regular basis

Lovely site next to the forest. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the road is not too good for walking on. Bus stop is just up the road from the site though we didn't use the service.

The Miners Arms at Sling was brilliant - lovely home cooked food at good prices. No phone signal is a bit of a pain - but not the end of the world! The toilet and shower facilities were a bit rustic but very clean. Very good value for money. We would definitely return.

Just spent Easter at Hawthorne cottage, what a lovely site. The owners cannot do enough for you they even offered to set up my tv, the 1 pound a night for the free view box is good value. Was a bit worried about only 1 toilet for male and 1 shower but never had to queue up and the site was full. The lovely walks in the forest on the door step. Would go back again.

Fantastic little site. Excellent for dogs, with access to the woods and the forest directly from the site. Several dog friendly pubs around-we went to the Butchers Arms in Clearwell, which had lovely food and a very friendly atmosphere-just remember to book. Coleford, nearby, was the only disappointment of our stay in the area. Try the fish and chip shop in Bream (5 minute drive from site, just off main road)-fantastic! No children allowed under 14 years so very peaceful.
