Sign posting non existent from main road into Reeth, this could do with some improvement.

The site is immaculately kept and Peter the warden is extremely friendly and helpful.

Pitches we found are a bit close together and we had a sited van next to us who seemed miffed we were there and parked so close to our caravan he could have shared our meals, so unnecessary as plenty of space towards his awning.

Those in sited vans and statics seemed to be a bit territorial towards us tourers and site definitely very 'clicky'.

Wash block a bit Victorian. One shower, ridiculous. Could not believe no hot water taps at sink basins(health and safety violation surely), and who wants to use the same handtowel as god knows how many others.

Only £15 a night, very cheap, but would rather pay more and have upgraded facilities.

We stayed at the Orchard over a very cold and wet Easter weekend. Our party consisted of 4 adults and 1 dog in 2 tents.

The only bad thing we have to say about our stay was the weather!

The customer service we received was impeccable. A warm welcome on a cold night, and thorough run down of the facilities of the campsite, and the nearby local amenities.

The site itself is long and flat, with a line of trees dividing the field, flanked on one side by a fast flowing river, which had we not had frost on our eye balls I'm sure would have looked lovely!

The town of Reeth is very picturesque and offers a range of shops, pubs, and eateries. A gallery and craft shop, and also a farmers market kept us busy on a frosty Sunday morning.

The camps facilities were adequate for our stay, and well maintained and kept very clean throughout the day.

My wife tells me that the ladies facilities also contained a basket full of smellies and shampoo's which I can only presume is a good thing.

Peter even came to the rescue of several stranded motorists and caravanners who had succumbed to the mud following a night of extremely heavy rain.

All in all despite the dreadful weather we were unlucky to receive, we will be returning later this year for another weekend in Reeth, and the hospitality of the Orchard.

First of all. You couldn't expect a better welcome than you will get from Peter and Pam,

The site itself is in a prime location just on the edge of reeth, about a 5 minute walk to the village square, where you will find 3 pubs, they all serve food but we never used so can't comment on them, the beers were OK though.Hic hic.Village shop cafes and ice cream parlour can also be found in the village, but no Take away or fish & chip shop which is a shame.

Getting to the site is down a quite long single track lane so don't hang about just in case somebody comes the other way or it could get messy.

We were pitched under the trees and after reading previous reviews went straight to the satellite dish, after about 3/4 hour of trying to to get a satellite signal I gave up, but to my amazement I did get a very good picture on the through the roof Ariel so if your setting up the TV try that first.

Toilets are in reasonable condition but only 1 shower per sex,and found them to be on the small size, but usable.

I would recommend this site, and we will be going back again to this walkers paradise.

Very well maintained site. Toilet block clean if basic, only one shower each for men and women, but it's quite a small site so this had only a limited impact, but its a good idea to book.

Cost was only £10 for 2 adults plus tent

20p for hot water and showers.

Its on the Coast to Coast walk and they will accommodate C2C walkers even if 'full' with other units. There would be nowhere else for them to go otherwise, a very thoughtful approach.

The site was quiet at night and the warden was always around to help.

Very handy for the village, 5 minute walk, with its 3 pubs, all do food. Also quite a few shops in the village for general provisions, including a baker, newsagent, etc.

There are plenty of walks directly from the site up the dale and along the river.

I can not fault this site for its general approach. But don't expect play parks and sand pits( thank goodness). But that does not mean its not child friendly.

I would certainly have no problem camping here again.

What a wonderful break we have just enjoyed here! Didn't want our 5 days to end. Lovely, lovely site and a very warm welcome. Facilities basic but very well looked after. 20p for showers but at £10 a night pitch fee, this was fine by us. Mix of statics, tourers and tents (but not many!) Everyone very friendly and perfect for our 8 yr. Old. Reeth and surrounding areas breath taking! Some great walks too. Will definitely be returning, perfect under the apple trees. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Check it out!

Spent two days here on Coast to Coast. Peter and Pam could not have done more to help us. Reeth lovely, everything necessary within 5 mins. Toilet block immaculate, site clean and quiet.

Thanks for the dressings for my feet and dry clothes. Long may you prosper. We will be returning to enjoy the many beautiful walking opportunities nearby without wrecked feet. All praise and much thanks Sal and Julian.

We have just had 4 excellent days at this site.Pete and Pam provided a first class welcome, with just enough dos and dont's not to worry you. The site is just what you would want if you only want to relax, with a good balance of statics to guests.

We arrived on Tuesday and there were only 2 to 4 tents each night, although Friday came and the site was pretty full, with couples, Coast to Coasters, and young families, who were really well behaved.

The facilities were fine, if you want anything else go to Butlins! Grass well cut, site very flat, toilet and washing facilities perfectly adequate, and location just near enough to the town without being too close, a 5 minute stroll.

Site costs for a couple, dog, tent and car were £10 a night, which is less than many sites ,and we thought 20p for hot water and showering no big deal.

The facilities in the village are OK, the small shop opens at 7.00 during the week, 7.30 on Saturdays, not sure about Sundays, but have limited supplies, particularly bread and rolls. The bakery, by the way, doesn't open until 10.00 which is no use if you're going out for the day early.

Having had many visits to Swaledale over the years, caving, walking, climbing and camping at some of the other sites, without using this one before, we would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

If visiting at weekends I would think it advisable to ring beforehand to save you being disappointed if full.

Hard to say more than the last reviewer. Lovely site, very friendly and helpful. And only 5 minutes slow walk from the village. Camping at its very best. Camping under apple tress being showered in blossom when the warm summer breeze passes lazily by . . . Perfect.

We spent 4 nights at this site and every one was a pleasure.

The site as previously stated in reviews has adequate toilet and shower facilities as there are probably only 20 - 30 touring / tent outfits that can fit on the site. We had a party of 6 adults and 5 children in 2 tourers and one tent.

Peter, who runs the site, really does care about what he does, he is very informative about the surrounding area and tends to be able to guess at what people want from their stay at the site. We had a friend who hadn't booked but came down with his two kids and asked if he would be able to stay the night in a small tent he had. Peter very kindly allowed him to pitch his tent next to our party.

There is an adventure type playground a 5 minute walk uphill from the site in an excellent area with fantastic views. From the play area there is a short walk downhill to the river Swale, which was very low and shallow, we spent an afternoon in the river with the kids.

There is a football field / cricket field at the back of the site which the kids can have a kick about on.

Reeth Village has a lot of shops and pubs for such a small place but you can see why once you sit and have a beer outside of the pubs and take in the views, lots of people visit. The pubs are all children and dog friendly.

We had one night of rain but then 3 virtually cloudless days. No doubt this contributed to a great break for all of us.

Two very small points to be aware of.

1) The television signal can only be received with an old type analogue television and ariel. No digital.

2) Only 5 amps electricity per unit. So no electric kettles or heaters.

However, these are very small niggles.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay and everyone of us would like to return to this site for a longer period in the near future. (Once we have checked the weather forecast !)

Beautiful camp site in an orchard. You pitch under the apple trees! Nice and flat for pitching, but if it rains there tends to be quite big puddles!

Facilities, four toilets and one shower in the Ladies, are clean and neat with a table full of useful things like tissues and different washing products. You have to pay 20p for a shower and hot water in the washing up bowl outside, but this gives you enough hot water. Try to go in just after someone else though or it takes a while for the water to sort itself out!
There are several bins and recycling bins/boxes should you wish to do this. We did not see any laundry or ice pack facilities.

Just opposite our pitch there was a caravan with a bird table which kept us amused during part of a very wet day. The bird song in the morning is also something to be experienced! On the way in we passed a field with cows and one calf - the next day there were two! I've never seen a very new born calf before.

The camp site is tucked away off a back street just as you go into Reeth from Richmond and is not signposted from the main road. We had to ask for directions at the local shops, so make sure you find out where it is when you book.

The Warden, Peter, has been praised in other letters - he is very friendly and helpful, even to idiots like us who can't remember how to switch on the light to make sure the electric hook up works!

When we stayed the site was not busy, but we were told that it was going to be very busy from the next weekend, and there are some static caravans there, so it is probably important to book before you go. We will certainly use this site again.
