We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Run Cottage and will be returning very soon and telling family and friends. On arrival we were met by Michelle who could not have been more helpful and welcoming - showed us to our pitch and where all the facilities were. The site is well maintained and very peaceful (albeit for a random bird scarer and church bells which are all part of camping and add to our experiences). The toilet/shower facilities were spotless and we had lovely hot showers in a warm shower room (I used the unisex facilities which were wet room based (shower was cibicled off so everything else did not get wet) shower, hand basin and toilet - plenty of hooks to hang things on and shower caddy to place things in rather than put things on the floor. There is a small summerhouse contains a large map of the area and lots of other tourist information bits and bobs. The dog walking paddock is a great idea and our dog loved running around in there with the other dogs. The TV reception is not great but for a small extra charge you can hire a digi box from reception. A short walk (15 mins) along mostly road (but a quiet road) takes you into the village where there is a shop and pub (The Shepherd and Dog) which we would also highly recommend for friendliness and great food (at reasonable prices). There are lots of walks and things to do and see - we walked in Rendlesham Forest and visited Shingle Street and the lovely town in Woodbridge.

This is a great site near to the Shingle beach or the forest for walks. Facilities are immaculate and the site kept very neat and tidy. We have stayed here several times so were a little disappointed to be charged £5 to stay on longer Sunday given we didn't arrive until after 6 pm Friday as we had been at work!

Stayed a couple of nights on this beautiful site, nice people and spacious pitches with very well kept facilities. Only tiny downside, it was cold weather but when using the showers you had to be brave as the toilet/shower block never got warm! Would definitely return in the future. Walked quite a bit around the village and surrounding lanes but as we had two small dogs with us, had to be careful because of the traffic. Would like to elore the Church and graveyard more thoroughly as I have ancestors from Hollesley.

We have just spent a weekend at Run Cottage with our 2 children aged 14 and 10 in a campervan and a small tent (which the 14 year old sleeps in). We loved it. The site is compact and set in a peaceful rural area near the shore and surrounded by fields.
The owners had informed us before we came that they would not be in when we arrived but left us clear instructions about where to pitch. The pitches are a mix of hard standing and very well maintained grass (we were on the latter). The toilet blocks are appropriate size for the number of pitches and like everything at Run Cottage are finished and maintained to a very high standard with lots of personal touches. As well as male and female toilet and shower blocks there is a large family wet room with toilet which would be perfect for washing little ones. There is an indoor washing up area which has the feel of a newly fitted kitchen rather than basic lay out you expect from most campsites. There is an information hut with maps, guide books, games, books and DVDs which can be borrowed which is a really nice touch and shows a trusting and friendly approach. The site was well lit without being too bright after dark and was very quiet and peaceful. The site does not have a dedicated play area (not a problem for our boys but would have been an issue a few years ago) and there would be limited space for ball games when full. No wifi (which was a blessing)
We drove 10 minutes to Shingle Street where we had a lovely walk on the pebble shore – great for stone skimming. Woodbridge is 15 minutes’ drive away where we had a nice walk from the harbour for an hour or so. We will go to the little cinema next time.
Run Cottage is a great site. We thoroughly recommend it.

Really nice, clean and looked after site. Can see what some other reviewers were saying about visitors dogs having to be on a lead whilst the owners dogs just roam around. Know that my dog when it was alive, would have been none to chuffed to be on a lead whilst 'others' can run around until their hearts content. Warm free showers and although the there are only two in the gents and two in the ladies there wasn't any queuing. Loads of info and walking maps on display in the dish washing area and also listed and showed all the local eateries and pubs which was really helpful. We can recommend the Sorrel Horse in Shottisham. Only thing was not being able to pitch your awing with a ground sheet on the grass. So if you do have a fixed groundsheet on your awing I suggest you take a thick piece of carpet or very thick tarpaulin to put under your awning as the hard standings are gravel based so will puncher your groundsheets. Otherwise really good place to stop.

Just back from two week stay at Run Cottage - brilliant site! Well located, easy to get too, very warm and friendly welcome from the owners, large well spaced pitches, excellent facilities and good value. Local shop and pub 10-15 minute walk, only ate at the pub once, very friendly staff and good simple food, the shop is quite expensive but sells everything you need locally. There is a very good butchers at the railway station site in Melton, just next to Woodbridge, twenty minute drive, again quite expensive but excellent quality meat, fruit and vegetable stall outside some days too. Woodbridge has everything else shopping wise so no problem to get supplies. Loads to see and do in the area, our first visit to Suffolk but it won't be our last! Regarding the bird scarer review, this is a very active agricultural area, I have never seen so many farm vehicles on the roads and so many different crops being planted and harvested so you have to accept some disruption from COUNTRY NOISES, even church bells ringing and clocks chiming - we loved it! (We didn't get the bird scarer explosions). If you must have tv you will need your own dish or use the site cable, at extra cost, we managed to get mobile phone data connection ok so internet is doable too.

This campsite is set in a beautiful, peaceful location with a little stream running through on one side and a lovely pond in one of the camping fields. The toilet blocks were kept nice and clean and there was even two unisex bathrooms which had a toilet, sink and shower in. These were ideal for getting the kids showered.
There are some great walks and cycling from the campsite and a little shop for all your 'forgotten' bits a couple of minutes down the road.
There were two downsides to this campsite, the first one is the owners have stipulated that no ground sheets are to be used (even breathable ones) on the campsite. Now this was obviously an issue to any caravan owners with an awning and owners with tents and if I'm honest we still used ours when pitching our tent! However the owners have stipulated that if any ground sheets are used, they're within their rights to 'kick' you off the campsite without a refund. So be warned!
Our second issue was with the owners dogs. Any dogs on the campsite were asked to be kept on the lead, however the owners two dogs are allowed to roam freely across the campsite and leave little 'packages'. We also witnessed the owners dogs urinating on hedges and on one occasion another campers BBQ which they had washed and had left out to dry. Once we'd witnessed the 'packages' being left and the urinating it did put us off wanting to come back to this campsite again. This is a shame as it's in a lovely location and setting.

We have just come home from a fantastic week at Run Cottage. What a stunning site! Michelle & Andy are so welcoming & full of local info. Our pitch was lovely with plenty of space. A really peaceful site where we could chill out & relax. It is also a very well maintained & clean site. All the facilities are great - very clean showers, loos & washing up area & there is always plenty of hot water. Lack of TV signal not a problem for us & we don't watch TV! Managed to get Wi-Fi so I was able to access internet etc. A very dog friendly site with a great dog exercise area - where I spotted the kingfisher one afternoon!
There are so many walks in the area to take the dogs, one of our favourites being up on Sutton Heath. There is also a lovely walk along the river from the public car park at Melton to Woodbridge.
We love this site & area so much we are already planning a return visit later on this year. We have only been caravanning a short time but this is definitely our favourite site to visit - cannot sing it's praises enough!

Just returned fronm this lovely campsite and would highly recommend it for a quiet peaceful stay. Previous posts have mentioned a noisy bird scarer but we heard nothing like that and the owner also said she hadn't ever heard it! Anyway as both the instances of it happened in June I'm glad we were there in July.
The Tv reception is nil but you can hire Freesat from the owner (cable and box)for £2 a night, a good deal if you are stuck indoors during bad weather, like we were. No WiFi so leave your ipads/laptops at home. Maybe this will change as a lot of people have moaned both here and in the little cabin where there are lots of pamphlets etc and books to borrow and people gather to moan and pass on tips about where to eat etc!
There were no children there apart from a baby so it was peaceful, which is why we tend to go mid week during term time. Lots of dogs which were all well behaved on leads, although the owners dogs roam around freely which puts paid really to the notices to clean up after your dog. We noticed several little piles dotted around the site, but whose dog left them I wouldn't like to say!
The toilet block is excellent and kept spotless (complimentary 'ladies' bits and bobs and air fresheners for instance was a nice touch)and although there are only 2 loos and showers in each, there are also 2 wet rooms which I preferred as they were more spacious. All spotlessly clean.
The village shop is a hike about 1/2 a mile along a straight fairly quiet country lane, and it is well stocked and the only shop for miles. Local pub in the village looked OK but we didn't fancy the menu. Instead we visited the Sorrel Horse in Shottisham and had a decent supper of fish and chips, details of which are in the aforementioned cabin. A fish and chip van visits the village of Hollesley most Friday evenings. The nearest Chinese/Indian/other takeaways are in Woodbridge so ensure you have an insulated bag to bring it back.
The site is well situated for all the coastal villages and towns of south Suffolk like Aldeburgh, Southwold and Orford, all of which are well served with pubs and restaurants and artisan bakers/butchers etc with the attendant inflated prices. Be aware though that is quite near an Open Prison Hollesley Bay, so if you are at all nervous of that kind of thing.
A very very clean and tidy site, just shame about the wi-fi situation, if that's important to you. This whi I gave it a 9 and not a 10 for Site Facilities.
We didn't use public transport but saw lots of jolly buses round and about.
Would recommend it to folk without kids as there are no facilities for kids, maybe kids aren't welcome I don't know. It is level and clean and tidy, and would go back.

We have recently returned form Run Cottage having booked for 6 nights and enjoyed the site and surroundings so much stayed an extra night, and will return again, as still more to see.
I have just read the review giving 3/10 and struggle to agree with them. Yes the bird scarier did go off early but it is due to the time of year, and only went off dawn and dusk, I did not recall it throughout the day. We have a very well behaved dog, and it was refreshing not to have to have him on a lead throughout the stay, and allow him to play with the owners dogs when allowed but on a lead when walking around the site. The owners of dogs not so easy to control did keep them on leads and under control at all times, which is more than can be said about parents and children (not an issue at this site I hasten to add) the walk along the road was very safe as you are in the country and we found that the drivers were very courteous, not a busy road though, the walks were fantastic, pubs loved dogs, even gave them biscuits, they were very friendly to us too.
Facilities: 2 x showers 2 x loos 2 x wash basins ladies and mens, 2 x unisex shower, loo and wash basin.
