It was our second visit to Pennymoor, and its still the same well kept site we left last year. Noticed a few improvements, being they now have a proper reception which has loads of information pamplets for days out, takeaways etc. The shop was still well stocked with fresh bread, scones and croissant ever morning. Word of advice order your paper the day before. The site isn't that far form Modbury, which has a Co-op that is open quite late and I must recommend the Modbury Chinese, 2 Church St, yummy, it was lovely and they deliver to the site! You can also travel to Kingsbridge where there is a Somerfields, but we always went to Morrisons in Plymouth as it is a very large store and has everything you need. The beaches we liked were Bigbury on Sea, Blackpool Sands, Bantham (has lifeguard, toilet but no shop) and some of the beaches in Salcombe were nice but you had to get a boat to them. In a previous review I accidently said there wasnt a playground, oops silly me, there is, it has swings, roundabout, seesaw, but a lot of the kids still entertain each other by playing cricket, footy or badminton. Apparently before we arrived the site was so busy that they had to put portable loos and showers in the other fields, so just proves how popular the site has become! At £12 a night for 4 adults, car and a tent what a bargain! With hot water, electric hook up, oh and not forgetting the SCONES again, I ate loads, a good time was had by all!

Lovely site. Flat pitches. Good showers. We were in the second field with only portaloos and a bit of a trek to the showers but there was plenty of space between tents. We only stayed 2 nights so didn't use the washing machines or the shop. Easy drive to lots of near by beaches, towns and attractions. Hoping to go back soon for a longer stay.

Can't fault the place really, this is the third year on the trot that we have been to this site and we are addicted, so much so that we are going back down just after the Aug bank holiday weekend (was fully booked until the Tuesday after). Each time we visit the scenery just gets better and better.

This campsite never lets us down, always there to lend a hand and gathering from the site been booked up, well it speaks for itself. I have to admit I am starting to regret all the good points as more people seem to be listening and going there, great for the campsite, but alas not such a well kept secret anymore.

As for rowdy parties, well it was silent by 10.30pm during our stay, and the site was full, we couldn't believe it! Thumbs UP!

We have just returned from fifteen nights at Pennymoor, and it was a very pleasant experience.

The site is well maintained, mostly level and the staff as as friendly as they come.

There is an excellent shop which has groceries and a few camping accessories, and occasionally offers take away food.

There is also a very useful laundry, with commercial standard washers, a tumble drier and an iron.

I would like to correct the previous review though, there is in fact a play area for the children, with swings, a roundabout and a few other items.

The price was very reasonable, even considering we were using an electric hook-up for the first time.

We were in the main field as you enter the site, and found it to be very sheltered. Even when it got windy the fabric of our tent hardly moved at all.

This was our second visit to Pennymoor, although the first was only for a few days in 1999 to view the total eclipse. We will certainly go back at some point.

If you want a family-friendly base for touring the South Hams, this is it. It is ideal for a short stay, but has everything you will need for a long holiday.

Great site!

We spent a weekend at Pennymoor, and were really pleased with the site.

The owners were really helpful, especially as the drive down had taken a little longer than expected and we arrived late.

We had to pitch on the lower field which was sloping, but not so much that you slide out of your sleeping bag at night! The field was a very good size and we had loads of room around us, the cows in the next field were very entertaining.

The shower/toilet blocks were absolutely first class, it was just a shame that they were such a long way from the lower field. There were an abundance of showers, toilets and wash basins, and they whole place was very well kept.

We both really liked the site, although the main site did seem a little crowded, if we go back, we'll definitely opt for the lower field again.

Our first camping holiday as parents of our 3 young boys we decided on pennymoor for our get a away thanks to UKCS. We booked in for a week and enjoyed every minute visiting the local areas that I had done 22 years ago. As said transport is paramount at pennymoor as you are off the beaten track but it is not a bad thing, its quiet at night and a short drive from various coves and beaches as well as villages and towns (Modbury and Kingsbridge a must). Is a good sized site in 3 fields (we stayed in the main field with playground and shower blocks all well maintained) we found the staff more than helpful nothing was too much trouble including opening the shop after hours so we could get our ice blocks, the shop stocks everything you need from nail clippers to local fresh bread!

All in all we will 100% definatley be back next year.

A lovely quiet site, a few miles from Modbury rather than Ivybridge and about a mile from the main road.

We were there over a weekend and there was plenty of space to park up and set up the awning. Facilities were well kept. The site shop has pretty restricted opening hours but it's easy enough to work round those.

Definitely recommended for a quiet, rural site in easy reach of places like Salcombe, Thurlestone, Bantham and Bigbury.

Stayed at pennymoor last year and will more than likely return again this year.  It was my first full week camping and all I can say is the website pics dont' do it justice!

The staff were helpful, the toilets and showers (i have crohns disease so clean is a must) were emaculate and constantly hot.  Everyday the toilet/showers were locked for an hour whilst they were thoroughly cleaned.

The onsite shop was well stocked, which was handy as our tent sprung a leak and needed a serious repair.

Laundry room is great, has large toploader (always put on hot wash) and large industrial spinner & dryer.  Make sure you get up early to get the machine first.  I got there at 7.30 and the site manager always took pity on me and opened up early!

And if like me you like to look ur best, they even have an iron, result! (Sad aren't I) LOL

Warning bottom field near the woods can get very damp down there, whilst we were there as few had to move there tents.  Try to pitch in the section as u enter the campsite itself or there is another pitch but not sure wot its like!

If you have kids, there isn't any play area, but my friends children made lots of friends and its great to watch them entertain themselves by playing cricket, badminton and a bit of footy!  Go there it!

We stayed at Pennymore for 10 days in a static. The staff were very helpful, always smiling, happy and friendly. A nice peaceful site with a laundry, clean ablutions. Would be a bonus if they had a swimming pool or more activities for the kids on site. Otherwise was a great stay and our son made some lovely friends there and it was a battle to get him to bed!

Stayed here in July in a tent. Have three children and a large 7 berth tent and the fee was of excellent value. Children did not want to leave. The site has a brand new toilet block this year, which was great. Toilets were immaculately clean. The staff in shop and office could not do enough. We shall be back!
