Just returned from a great bank holiday weekend at Fir Tree farm.
The best pitches are beside the lake, so I would suggest you ask for a pitch in the lower section on booking. The only downside to this is the steep access road to this section - it makes leaving difficult if you are towing but the owner is happy to tow you up with his 4x4 if need be.
The fishing is great - lots of success! But be warned, you have to pay each day and you do need a licence. And although U12s don't need a fishing licence, they must be accompanied by an adult who has one.
The toilet and showers were spotless and hot water was in abundance.
Our children enjoyed the falconry, making repeated visits over the weekend.
We found the owners quite officious, but not unpleasant.
All in all a cracking site and one to which we will return.

Just returned from this site, there were 6 of us in total including my partner, 3 kids and Archie the Dog. A lovely time was had by all.
Despite previous reviews I found the owners/warden very friendly and helpful. We thought the Falconry was great, both Harry,7 and Evie,4 both got to hold 2 birds each and the owner talked to us about the other animals on display.
The camp area is well maintained with picturesque views and plenty of space for the little ones to burn some energy. There are porta loos and also a shower block which looked clean but we didn't use due to only staying the one night. We did use the washing area which had 4 good sinks and nice hot water.
There is a dog walking area in the field next to the camping area
We couldn't believe at the quietness of this camp, the site semms to mostly cater for caravans and everyone was well couped up by 8pm leaving us the only campers enjoying the lovely evening and the occasional screech from the birds of prey.
Price is £15 per night with or without electric hook up which I suppose is average nowadays. Not many places left for under a tenner a night any more, especially ones as nice as this!
We will certainly be returning this year as this is one of the best local sites we have stayed at so far.

Recently returned from our second visit to this picturesque site. Very clean, nicely laid out pitches and wonderful views over two fishing lakes. A lovely site for both young and old.
Since our last visit, a shower block has been built. This consists of four great family rooms - a plus for us grandparents who may need to supervise young children. Also new are washing up sinks, although only two of them, with plenty of hot water.
The only downfall to this site was we appeared to be pounced on when setting up to pay our site fees. We were abruptly told we should not have pitched up without stopping at him first which would have been impossible as he wasn't there when we arrived and the falconry was closed. When we called to book our pitch, he managed to 'squeeze us in' only to find the site nearly empty on arrival.
Attempted to visit the falconry during our stay but didn't manage to catch it open.
Plus points: Views, wonderful farm shop and Herb Centre just up the road and a caravan sales centre should you need anything.
Minus points: £15 per night a bit steep for 2 seniors off season.
Dog loose running around the site.
A couple of very large permanent looking units still there from our previous visit.

During 2010 we went to this site about 6 times for weekends it is only half hour away from where we live but it feels like hundreds of miles!
Relaxing site.
Fishing but watch small children as the lakes are not fenced.
Plenty of walks but it is hilly/steep to get into the site.
Only 4 showers but never had to wait & always clean.
2 washing up areas but again never had to wait as there is normally more caravans then tents.
Field for dogs to run round.
There is no play area for kids but they have great fun rolling down the hills and there is normally enough room for them to play by the tent field.
Wardens are very helpful.
Enjoy a relaxing site.

Pros
Superb site, very clean and quiet, very friendly falconry centre which for £3.50 and a three bird flying display plus a look at the birds was good value - but DO check the flying times as it's normally only once a day.
Top field has fantastic views but no showers, just a portable loo and tap and can be windy.
Lower field is more sheltered with a fishing lake & showers.
Showers are a strange unisex affair, but warm and plenty of hot water.
Farm garage and shop with nuts and bolts, clothes, boots, oil, light boards, gas, strimmers, mowers and tractors etc for sale.
A good base for visiting the National Herb centre & The Heritage Motor Museum.
Cons
There are no real facilities for tents, there are two washing up sinks but with no draining boards or shelf. How does that work?
Due to it being very quiet and a bit out of the way there's only the National herb centre, farm shop & village in walking distance, after that it's get the car out!
Due to the fishing lake I would not recommend it for children!
The only other thing to point out is it's the same price all year to keep things simple - So in mid summer and bank hols it's very good value, but in winter it seems a little expensive, especially once the falconry centre has closed. Will visit again and for longer next time!

This was our first outing in a newly bought caravan so had an open mind on what to expect.
We were lucky to get on the lower level as it is a steep hike to the upper part, great views from the van across the nice fishing lake and fields beyond.
The mains hookup lead we had been given with the caravan was far too short so the site staff lent us a longer one, although the hook up was quite a distance from the plot we were on.
There are 2 people on site to help out, a lady and chap, although the chap is more to do with the falconry.
Entrance to the falconry is £3.50 per person and the sign says this includes supervised handling of the birds, no handling was offered and we were in and out within 10 min's as without the handling it doesn't take long so not to impressed with this.
The loos's are porta loo's but I could see loo's in the shower block so bit confused as was told the porta loo's were the only loo's available.
Had slight concerns about pulling the van back up the steep track as not tarmac (rock and gravel surface) as had we had to stop there was no way I could have got going again, luckily we made it in one go in 1st gear all the way, 4x4 would be no probs but I have front wheel drive family car.
Nice peaceful site and good base for visiting stuff in the area.

I agree with other reviews about the location of the site the facilities on site, however we were a little disgruntled with the greeting we received because we were supposed to know we should of been on site by 6pm and the warden was having his dinner. None of which we had been advised on booking or via the website nor previous visits. But hey ho the crystal ball should of come into play!
A good time had by all despite the greeting.
The lake had good fishing, good location for other activities and we will consider using again. But we will arrive before 6pm!

We have just returned home from a 3 night stay in this friendly campsite, the campsite comprises of two tier level, the upper level has great views and a couple of well kept potaloos,
Should you need a shower its a walk down a steep bank as you round the bend it all comes into view the lakes the toilet block which I must say is well kept and clean as you walk down the hill you pass the falconery centre were their is a cafe for drinks sandwiches etc
The wardens are so helpful,we stayed on the upper level next time we will go down to the lower level,
The site has hard stands and grass, electrics. Its nice to meet such lovely people, I could go on but all will say is yes we will back

A lovely campsite will be returning again soon The toilets showers were clean, think a few more would be a help but felt so relaxed did not bother me I had to wait. The children loved it and loved meeting the birds of prey.
The warden and his wife were lovely one of the best camping holidays I have had. Even the down pour of Rain we had. While going on a Hawk walk did not put me off. Not to far from a local pub we did not walk it though as just liked spending time on camp site.
Loads of room between pitches not sure what it would be like on a really busy day though. The price is great value to when I booked £15 a night for the pitch with hook up did not matter how many people in the tent it was a one off payment there are 5 of us so good value

We stayed at Fire Tree for three nights and had a lovely time. We were due to be camping in the Gower but the severe weather warning led us to find somewhere else, and the site was not far from home.
The site is a valley with the tent area at the bottom, the site office and small shop/cafe at the top. The shower block is also located at the bottom, a short walk from the tents.
Pros:
* Very friendly owner/young guy from the falconry centre. They made us very welcome.
* Shower/toilet block was spotless. Site was not busy so didn't have to queue. There is only one block but the site is favoured by caravans who would use the block less.
* Amazing drainage if it rains. The last night we had monsoon rain all night and when we woke there was not a puddle to be seen!
* Lots of space for the children to run round even though there was not a play area
* Falconry centre at the top of the hill is well worth a visit
* Lots of portaloos around the site in case the walk to the shower block is too far (in the night with a small child!)
* Near to Banbury for supplies. Go and visit the outdoor 50m pool at Banbury, which the kids loved!
Cons:
* No washing machine or dryer. The site is geared more to caravans than tents but the lack of even a dryer can be a pain. We were unlucky to have some wet weather and while we did get things dry it would have been handy to have a dryer.
* Was a bit quiet. Not really a con, and due to the weather. But with hardly any children around it seemed a bit quiet!
All in all, we had a great time!
