Upon taking the brave/stupid decision to camp in a small pup tent during a cold snap in February, my girlfriend and I had a very pleasant experience with Ashbrook Caravan and Camping.
Cleaning facilities.
Brand new, very clean and warm, with great water pressure. There is a 50p charge for showers, but money well spent, especially considering the fair tariff.
Location.
Within 15-20 min walking distance from the town, avoiding main road traffic. Brilliant hiking only a short drive away.
Customer service.
Perhaps the camp-sites jewel in the crown. Very accommodating owners, with a genuine interest to ensuring you have a pleasant stay.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We stayed over Christmas as part of our great escape.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the site owners, who turned out to be two of the nicest people we’ve met in a long time.
The site has excellent access straight off the main road and is well signed. The site is all but new and is reflected in the quality about the place, the toilet block and showers are to say the least superb. The showers are on timers and take 50 pence pieces. You get plenty of time for your money.
The site itself is level and the hard standings are more than adequate (and trust me our van is not the smallest in the world).
Everything on site reflects the attitude of the owners right down to washing up liquid supplied at the under cover washing up station. It’s the little touches that make all the difference to us.
It turned out that we were the only ones booked in over Christmas, which from our point of view was a real bonus. And we got the feeling that we were not afforded any special treatment but that the owners do genuinely want everyone that stays with them to enjoy their stay.
It’s a fifteen, twenty minute walk (all on the flat) to Hay on Wye which has everything you would expect to find and the scenery around the local area is very pleasant.
We may have been a bit rash in this review; when you find a good thing keep it to yourself but without the patronage of others then it won’t succeed and it certainly deserves to. Just do us a favour and stay away at Christmas, leave us to enjoy our secret getaway in peace!

Excellent toilet and shower facilities. Owners very friendly and helpful. Ideal site for hay festival. Hay a short walk via backroad for safety as directed by site owners. Lots of places to eat in Hay. Site still being developed but already has a the makings of a very good site as owners appear to have the right attitude.
Will be returning next year and as it is open all year may return before end of 2012 depending on weather.

We had a great stay at this site.
The grounds, the washing up area and the showers and toilets were all immaculately clean.
The grounds were spacious and surrounded by lovely countryside with beautiful views. It took about 20 minutes to walk into Hay on Wye and about 2 minutes by car. Hay had a good Spar shop which had all the provisions we needed.
The owners were extremely helpful with advice about good places to eat etc. Their friendly welcome was great.
As tent users the ground was just perfect, smooth grass, dry-under foot and easy to get the tent pegs in.
The site had a lovely peaceful atmosphere.
Thank you for a great end-of-summer stay.

Wow wow wow! We were surprised Ashbrook caravan and campsite actually existed, having visited the area some years earlier, and what a pleasant surprise it was. (Opened 2012), access to this site is just perfect, straight off the main Brecon to Hay-on-wye road. No lanes too navigate here.
We managed to make a booking the following weekend after talking to the most pleasant and professional owners I've come across, cost was very competitive. With no extras for dog or awning.
On arrival, we were met and booked in by the owner and shown to our pitch, which was marked up with temporary marker sticks, (no mistakes to be made there).
We chose a grass pitch, the grass felt good under foot even with the rain we had in the prior months, surprisingly good. There are few hardstanding pitches near the toilets.
The toilets are the best we've come across, a brand new building. A lot of thought must have gone into its planning, and the cost probably higher.
The mens and womens were of conventional design with the exception of both mens and womens showers being built sepretely, actually around the back in the same main building. I think this system works, for one good reason. I usually like a shower in the morning, so I now have a shower separated from all the fuss and smells that go with the morning stampede. There is a 50pence charge for showers, underfloor heating was also provided for those cold days.
The park is of oval shape with units situated on the inside and outside edge. Leaving a big area in the center for children's/dogs play area.
There were adequate bins placed around the park emptied daily, covered facilities for dishwashing,
The usual chemical disposal point all of which were spotlessly clean
There is no shop on this site, although Hay-on-wye being near helped with those daily needs. Hay-on-wye also has a small supermarket, a traditional fish and chip shop and plenty of second hand books.
The most important member of the family (our dog) was allowed to stay on site, (observing the rules for animals) with many walks within easy reach, including river walks, our dog actually loved the site.
As mentioned earlier the owners work incredibly hard to make you feel welcome, to keep the site immaculate and always had time to ask how your day was! Just brilliant.
Probably one of the best, if not the best, campsites we visited in 2012 and had the pleasure to stay on.

This site was a pleasure to stay at, we only booked for one night and would have stayed longer had we not been going to meet others. The welcome was warm and friendly, the facilities spotless and everything was well kept. It was nice not to have to find money for the showers.
We cycled into Hay in a few minutes and it is a great location to visit the town from or explore the surrounding area. We will definitely visit again and if you do I am sure that you will not be disappointed

Just Spent 3 days here in our motorhome the site is in a lovely setting well maintained, toilets and showers spotless. Twenty min walk into Hay on Wye. Owners are delightful people and cannot do enough to help. This is a new site so as yet not well known but would suggest people give it a try it is well worth it. The site is great and the area offer so much for young and old. The site caters for tents caravans and motorhomes. Will be returning again.

We enjoyed our stay at this site but were so surprised it was so quiet. The site is very new, toilet and shower blocks are beautifully clean and the site is well kept.
Mainly grass pitches but there are a few hardstandings. The owners were very pleasant and friendly and quickly pointed out the footpath into Hay on Wye.
The town centre is only a few minutes by car, and there are plenty of shops to browse in and purchase necessary shopping.
The owners are working very hard to provide a lovely site here and we shall be visiting again.
The only criticism would be. Please could we have a hosepipe by the chemical toilet disposal?
Electric hook ups on all pitches and there were wooden tables and benches round the site,
We didn't have children but perhaps some families would have liked a play area.

Wonderful! Alvin and Denise couldn't be nicer and the pitches are huge. We were staying for The Hay Festival which is a 10 minute walk across fields from the site and its a further 10 minute walk into the centre of Hay.
The site only opened 4 days before we arrived so as you would expect everything is gleaming. It rained a lot when we were there but all the facilities stayed clean apart from a bit of muddy water on the floor which is only to be expected.
Having said how great it is there are a couple of minor niggles; there is no shop or freezer facilities. You aren't far from Hay but bread and milk would be nice! Oh. And make sure you save your 50p's as this is what the showers take. You get loads of time for your money though so don't become obsessive about it!
All in all it was a lovely site and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to see this beautiful part of the world.

Came on this site 2012 with my brother and wives decided this is the site for us. So much so we booked to stay permanently. Paid our money and have not looked back ever since. Alvin towed us from riverside site in talgarth and put us on two great pitches. This site is unbelievable and everything we want. Two great owners who make this a place to come back to. Toilets you can eat off the floor. Showers you want to stay in, lovely hot water and lovely and warm. Alvin is continually working to make this site a haven to come to. Security barriers with number key pad make this a secure site. The owner does her share by making the toilets spotlessly clean, this she does on a regular basis. Great views, great pitches, great hosts, what more can you ask for.
Cannot wait for the start of 2014 season.
