I had stayed at this site a couple of years ago, not too long after it had opened, and was very keen to pay a return visit. It is one of the best sites I have stayed on, with excellent, spotlessly clean, facilities, lots of space to camp, and the warmest of welcomes. The owners are very helpful and the site is well located for a walk into Hay on Wye, and easy access to many good hillwalks. A five star site!

We spent three nights over the May Day bank holiday and enjoyed every minute. As mentioned in previous reviews the site was immaculate and we found that nothing was too much trouble. The concern over the grass was understandable as the ground was still very soft and it was obvious vehicles would soon cut it up. With the Hay Festival imminent the owner was keen to preserve the grass area for the influx of tent campers. There are a number of seasonal pitches the residents of which were very sociable and made us feel at home. The site is well placed for walkers and those who enjoy the various activities locally. We would certainly recommend this site and plan to go back soon.

Stayed for the weekend for a wedding in nearby village. Lovely site nice showers lots hot water 50p. Wash hand basins and toilets in different room. Good very hot water to wash your pots.
Site is the tidiest I have ever been on. Very warm welcome nothing was to much trouble for these super wardens. Due to to much beer had to take a taxi back. Have you ever tried to get a taxi on Sunday morning in the middle of Wales. Warden gave me a left back to the venue. It is true what the other reviews say nothing is too much trouble.
View spectacular surrounded by hills. Spring lambs in the adjoining field was an add extra. Shortish walk to Hay. Lovely. One of the best site I have been on.

The site is clean, but no character. The rules sheet was rather intimidating. It felt hard to relax with children, as not sure what they could and could not do. There are no kid play areas at all. You cannot drive on, but they insist on towing your caravan with mini tractor so not to risk driving on and damaging the grass. The pitch was hardstanding and reasonable size for caravan and awning with car to be parked sideways on in front. As it was a one-way system, we were told to make sure car pointed in one direction unlike the car next door
After dropping our caravan off, he shot off to do something else. Getting the spirit level out, and lowering the legs, we soon realised the pitch was sloping, and would need some chocks on one side. Being such a simple task, we simply hitched car on and started to reverse caravan onto some blocks. Suddenly Denice was there, saying Alvin could do that for us. “It’s fine” I said “No need to bother him, I’ll have it done in seconds”. “Ok, but you will mind the grass won’t you”.
Unpacking we realised we had forgotten some chairs, but then saw dotted round the site several picnic tables, so my wife went off and asked if we could use one. She was told they were only for season holders, but would see if a spare could be found. 5 minutes later, and they had one on a wheelbarrow strolling towards us. “That is amazing, thank you so much” we said. We explained that as we were visiting dad for the weekend, he would be coming over with our brother for dinner. We were told not a problem, and simply get him to call by reception when they arrived, which they did, and were given the passcode to open the barrier and drive in.
The next day, the family were meeting up for an Easter Sunday Egg hunt in the castle, and as we drove off site, saw Denise, and said thank you. As dinner the night before was so easy, we decided to do it again. We sat and ate and drank and toasted gran with fond memories and laughter. But towards the end Alvin suddenly turned up demanding £18 from us for our guests. We said we would see him when we had finished our meal. Our family had only been there 4 hrs at most, but it finished with an awkwardness, and annoyance at the attitude he had shown us.
The toilet block was a crowning feature. A good size and very clean. However, we noticed the disabled loo had the biggest step to deal with and no ramp, which was strange. On entering the toilets, you are welcomed by sensor lights which switch on, and radio 2 playing through the air. The problem with the sensory lights tho, which we both got caught out on, was if you are sat on the loo for more than 2 minutes, and no-one else is around, then they go off, and you are left in utter darkness!
A dog in a cage greeted us on arrival barking as we turned into the site. All in all, would not recommend to our friends.

We had a great stay at Ashbrook. The site has excellent access straight off the main road and is well sign posted and surrounded by lovely countryside with beautiful views. On arrival we were met and booked in by the owner and shown to our pitch, mainly grass pitches but there are a few hard standings. The owners are very pleasant and friendly and their hard work is showcased throughout the site, the pitches level and the hard standings are more than adequate.
Excellent toilet and shower facilities absolutely spotless showers are 50p but lots of lovely hot water.
No shop on site but Hay on Wye is about a pleasant 20 minute walk away there is a market on Thursdays with lots of stalls selling a wide range of goods but remember its half day closing on Tuesdays. We had a delicious meal at The Swan at Hay Hotel. The site is a good base for exploring mid Wales, walking and cycling we shall definitely be returning.

Just returned from a week at Ashbrook caravan and camping site. The site was beyond our expectations. Credit goes to the owners Denice and Alvin for all their extremely hard work on this site. Toilets and showers were immaculate at all times. The site is scenic, beautiful hills to overlook at every point. We were given such a warm welcome when we arrived which continued throughout our stay. Local info they had in abundance from restaurants to shops and markets. Denice and Alvin should be so proud of their achievements. Superb hosts, fabulous site. Return visit to them next year is a definite.

The owners were fantastic hosts. We only stayed one evening but were given such a personal welcome. The site is immaculate, the toilets and showers spotless. Completely beyond the call of duty we were driven to and from our restaurant in Glasbury. Outstandingly warm and friendly hospitality. Nothing was too much effort including the use of a torch - pretty basic thing to forget when camping of course! We shall definitely return.

FANTASTIC.
From the minute we arrived we were given a warm welcome.
The site is tendered exceptionally. I. E cleaned/tidy/mowed the toilets & showers are beautiful a true credit to their hard work. These power showers are 50p for about 3-4 mins &well worth it. The owners are on site with any questions / queries & are always happy to lend a hand if needed. You can walk into town which will take you about 20 -25 mins, the Three Tuns has a great Butty Bach beer on draught. Then for the walk back there's a great little fish & chip shop round the corner from The Tuns.

Excellent site. Level grassed field with generous pitching area. Family run and owners extremely pleasant and helpful. Toilet and shower facilities are the best we have ever encountered on a campsite. Plenty of bins around the site so very clean and tidy. Barbecues are not allowed on the grassed areas however, if you just ask the owners they will bring you a couple of slabs in the wheelbarrow and you can then enjoy your barbecue. Take Welles if you walk into Hay as the short cut is across two fields full of sheep and their plentiful deposits! Would definitely stay again without hesitation.

Great welcome by hosts. Lovely level site. No specific dog walk, although you can use footpath to Hay, there is a stile so unfortunately had to turn back as we had the dog with us. Showers were great and worth 50pence. Steady hum of traffic from the road in the day although it was quieter at night and did not pose a problem. Nearby was hay which has lovely bookshops but couldn't find a supermarket, very tourist orientated.
Chinese in Hay was absolutely lovely and reasonably priced.
Visited Berrington Hall, approx 40minutes away, able to walk our dog around the lovely lake and estate then park in shade of trees while we spent an hour looking around the house. The only drawback really was disabled toilet had huge steps to get up to access and a ramp would be a much better option.
Also, no wi fi which we hadn't thought to check prior to booking although this is being looked into.
