I don't usually bother writing reviews but, after spending the last three nights at Catgill Camp Site, I was so impressed I just had to do so. My partner and I and our two kids arrived on Tuesday afternoon. We were warmly welcomed by the owners who were so helpful in telling us where all the facilities were and bringing us a fire pit and logs (small hire charge) The site is so peaceful with outstanding views. There's lots to do here all within walking distance - even with small children with small legs. I can't find any fault with this place and will definitely be back as soon as possible to create more happy memories(Please don't dismiss my ratings as unrealistic - this place is stunning in every way!)

There is an immaculate shower/toilet block with kitchens containing fridge/freezers, microwave & kettles. Staff were really helpful, the lady cleaning the bathroom even entertained my daughter so my wife could apply some makeup un-interrupted. Very relaxed, but meant we came back to a group of teenagers pitched almost touching our guyropes.

Just returned from a weekend at Catgill. The views from the site are lovely but it is expensive for a site with limited facilities. There are toilets and showers but only one building for hundreds of campers which is some distance from the far pitches.
I disagree with the review below that it it is a long way from Bolton Abbey. Both the Abbey and Billy Bob's diner are within walking distance along a small country lane. Hesketh Farm Park is practically next door.
The issue I had with the site was the lack of policing. People pitched their tents wherever they liked, sometimes blocking access for vehicles. We have a dog which we always keep on a lead or tether but several had them running free. One actually attacked my dog, another ran up and started eating her food.
My kids' swing ball set, which was in the ground, went walkabout whilst we were away from the site and I found it lying on the ground by someone else's tent. Someone else apparently had a barbecue go missing. Whilst this is not the site's fault, the lack of enforcement of rules meant that there was no consideration or respect shown to other campers.

Dogs! There are supposed to be rules about dogs on this site, they are not adhered to, which is a shame!
The site is basic but it is quite a new venture so things may improve.
The pictures of Bolton Abbey on the website are a bit misleading as it is quite a walk from there and if you drive the car park prices are quite a shock. The amenities around Bolton Abbey itself are a bit limited, a bit dated too with regards to food and refreshments and if you want a cheap weekend forget about the Devonshire Arms and drive over to Addingham where you can get decent food at sensible prices.
It is also a bit expensive, maybe that's why prices are not advertised on their website.
By the way there is no shop.

Planned to stay for 2 nights but added a 3rd! Great location with stunning scenery. Lots of exploring to be done around Bolton Abbey and the walks around the grounds. At certain times of the year the estate have themed activity walks which are great for the kids. On site there's room to run around and a small stream to paddle in.
Shower / toilet / wash up facilities are excellent. Site was busy when we there there, but didn't have any of the issues with overcrowding and dirty showers etc that were reported previously which makes me believe the owners have listened and made changes. There are two large communal fridges for perishables but could do with a third when site gets busy.
The fire pits which are available to hire, with logs supplied, are amazing! Do a great job of providing a bit of light and lots of heat. Kids sat up one evening telling each other ghost stories!
My only real negative point is the distance from the majority of pitches to the facilities and water tap. They are located in a corner just outside the field so is a bit of a hike. Also, electric would be nice - they were planning to put this in but for some reason it hasn't happened.
Shop is very small but sells a few basic supplies, owners are friendly and helpful making themselves available to sort problems / queries pretty much all the time.
Looking forward to returning at least once this year.

Delightful campsite with the best WC/Shower and inside dish-washing facilities I have ever experienced! Two nights there in what is a quiet period but as pitches not marked out in any way I do wonder whether this could cause difficulties with random pitching if the site was full! I am a single traveller but agree that there is so much to do in the area it is an ideal location and planning my routes around was easy with a choice of two main routes into the Dales. I would recommend this to anyone but be warned! I only booked short break but you will wish you had booked for longer period once you are there.

Plus Points:
Truly stunning views. I would never ever get bored waking up to it or sipping my chilled glass of wine whilst gazing at it in the evening
Great facilities - stylish, good quality products have been used throughout the shower block and washing up room which makes for a really contemporary lovely feel to the campsite
Relaxed, very friendly but not over-bearing owners/customer service - With every dealing that we had with them from that initial call to enquire about booking to when we actually arrived, the owners were extremely friendly, helpful and polite.
Location/Access to local attractions/village shop WITHOUT needing a car IS EXCELLENT. Within half a mile (easily walking distance down a country lane), you have a village shop and Bolton Abbey which includes river, beautiful walks and tearooms a plenty. Also, a 2 minutes walk in the opposite direction would get you to Hesketh Farm Park. You could spend the whole weekend there without needing to get in the car once
Talking to the animals - we were lucky that there were some baby Calves in the field, who were all friendly, next to the campsite so my children got to say Hello. There were also plenty of sheep to watch as the lambs played!
Fire Pits - For an extra charge, you could hire a fire pit for the duration of your stay which added to the excellent atmosphere
Friendly campers creating a great family feel - We may have just been lucky with this one during our stay but everyone we met during our stay were lovely. The site felt very child-friendly and everyone looked out for each other's children. Nearly everyone adhered to the 10. 30pm quiet zone (People just talked quietly after 10:30pm which was absolutely fine) despite there being several large groups of tents pitched together etc.
Negatives (Sorry!):
Not enough cleaning - I appreciate it is a working farm and the campsite is literally just a field. I also appreciate that it was wet during our weekend stay. However, if you are going to have that many tents, you really need to clean the toilet/shower block more. I tried to go for a shower at 8pm one night and the shower floor/changing area was just a massive mud puddle. I would have been dirtier coming out than when I went into the shower! I don't think the wooden platforms are working! Maybe hire someone to clean more regularly instead of hiring a contractor who just visits once or twice a day?
Rubbish collection - By the end of the weekend, the 4 rubbish wheelie bins (big industrial ones) were overflowing and the bin bags were piling up on the drive. I had nightmare visions of rats and mice (especially on a working farm) ripping them apart on our final night and us waking up to find rubbish everywhere! I know you had an exceptionally busy weekend but you need the bins to accommodate that.
On the whole, this is an excellent campsite and the negative points are all teething problems on a new campsite which can easily be rectified and I'm sure they will. I will definitely visit again but maybe avoid bank holiday weekends for a while!

I brought my 7 year old daughter for a night's stay (turned into 2!) last week. It's in a lovely location and is perfect if you like smallish campsites to get away from it all. All the pitches seem very good with the added bonus that you can pitch where you like. The facilities are excellent and cleaned regularly and the big fridges / freezers to put your stuff in are most welcome when, if like me, you fill an ice box easily. All the staff are really friendly and helpful and keep the site spotless. There's a big space in the middle where children can play safely and make friends. Nice not to see rows of caravans as well!
Short walk to Bolton Abbey and there is a great circular walk that brings you back to the campsite along a quiet lane. Can't fault the place and look forward to visiting again before the season ends!

Our first time camping was made so easy by the friendly welcome and fantastic facilities at Catgill. Clean hot showers and toilet block with large pot washing facility will large freezer for ice blocks. The owners have done well in a short space of time. We will definitely be returning. Fire pits available to hire a plus point.

A beautiful site in a stunning location ideally placed for both Bolton Abbey and Hesketh Park Farm. Excellent amenities block, including fridge freezer which was a huge help with the glorious weather we experienced. Our first family camping trip and overall a great success.
We stayed from Wed - Sat in the summer holidays and the first two nights were lovely with the site being quiet. Friday was a different story whereby there were near on 50 tents (I perhaps naively assumed 30 pitches equated to 30 tents and was therefore expecting the site to stay relatively quiet). As you pitch where you fancy this meant that some inconsiderate campers were pitched in very close proximity. In addition this put some strain on the, otherwise great amenities block.
Would return without doubt but would be wary of summer weekends.
