First the good points; the amenities block is new and nice, and always plenty of hot water. The location is great, with great views from the top end of the site, plenty of walking and cycling which can be done direct from the site without getting into the car again. Everything has a very relaxed feeling. There is generous provision of fridge space, and some freezer space for ice blocks.

There are downsides. The site is only licensed for the level area at the bottom of the site; the main field is allowed to be camping only on an informal basis, and most of this field is on the slope, and the grass is seldom if ever cut. During the peak periods and especially at weekends the main field fills up and the pressure on facilities increases. The owner says he is opening another field to expand capacity for August Bank Holiday weekend -- aaargh. There is a rule that dogs should be kept on a lead, but it is not always adhered to, perhaps because the owner himself walks around with a dog not on a lead. The showers are not so well designed and tend to get a bit mucky as you can't clean up after yourself. The informal feel tends to make people a bit less careful in keeping quiet and/or not encroaching on other people's space. There are no marked pitches. Strangely for a new site, there is absolutely no recycling, not even bottles. There is no shop, and the 'village' shop is really the Bolton Abbey tourist shop, so has very little in stock useful to campers. Also, at £20 a night for two people and a car, it was the most expensive site during our recent two-months continuous camping. I would have expected better for this.

So not on our list of places to return to, sadly. But worth considering mid-week out of school holiday time, and pitching in the lower (level) area.

Just returned from a weekend at this nice new site.

When we arrived we were greeted by the owner who was friendly and appeared to have quite a relaxed attitude.

The site is quite small with a pitch where you like policy. Most of the site is on a slight slope with the flatter pitches being at the bottom of the site. When we arrived early on Friday evening there was plenty of space to chose from but by Saturday the site was more or less full.

At the top of the site there is an amenities block consisting of ladies and gents showers & toilets and a large pot wash area with a fridge / freezer. The block is clean and modern as you'd expect on a brand new site. The owners just need to keep it that way.

There are two showers in each of the ladies and gents was areas plus a disabled toilet and shower in each. This was adequate for when we were there with no queueing. If the site gets any busier then two showers for each may not be enough.

One thing that was lacking from the shower area was a mop and bucket. With no way of clearing up after oneself, I can see the showers getting dirty during wet weather if the owners do not keep on top of the cleaning.

We saw a number of people carrying fire pits and bags of wood, so it looks like these can be hired from reception but this wasn't clearly advertised.

The site is in a great location about a mile from Bolton Abbey along a narrow country lane.

The area has lots to offer families, there's a 'Welly Walk' in the grounds of Bolton Abbey with lots to keep the young ones entertained. The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is also nearby.

I'd use this site again if I was in the area but I would probably avoid sunny summer weekends.

This is a brand new site nestled in the heart of Bolton Abbey. I really mean it when I say it's right in the heart of the abbey. There is a new shower and wash block and they are to a high standard. This place is great. Not only are the staff really friendly and welcoming but the scenery is amazing. Get yourself to this site before it becomes too popular.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at this new camp site. Originally booked for 2 nights but asked if could stay an extra night as so nice. Warm welcome on arrival, very helpful but not intrusive. Quite site ideal for a relaxing time. The toilet and shower block very clean with ample hot water. Area for washing dishes excellent. At time of visit unable to use freezer to refreeze ice blocks but on asking was advised will be available in a few days once electrician visited to arrange connection of appliance.

The surrounding are is ideal for any one enjoying good long walks. Ideal location for visiting various areas of interest. Views from camp site fantastic.

Will definitely be visiting again.
