This was our second visit to this site, even after our hostile greeting on the first visit we thought perhaps it was an off day and we will try again. Well what a mistake that was, this couple are rude unhelpful and downright hostile. I think this site is in a lovely setting and has great possibilities but all you remember is the two gestapo officers running the site which should be renamed stalag park.

Fabulous weather, fabulous friends - awful campsite! Will not be staying there again. No electricity for 2 nights in a row - which they did refund us for - very very begrudgingly. Toilet / shower block filthy - cold showers - disgusting. Constant patrolling of the site - which is literally only a field (nothing special) was very irritating. And the owners were very accusing to everyone when the electricity was out!

On arrival to the site its pretty impressive, the river and the surroundings are superb! This was our second camping trip as we are new to this game. What a shame the lady running the site was there as she clearly did not want to be! Hubby was great and very helpful. I think the shop needs to display a sign beware of the angry lady as its a real shock when you are going away with your young family and all in good spirits! Hey she did not spoil it we had a lovely time and we met up with our friends to which was even better. Overall we would go back as its a lovely spot, it is however a good sprint to the showers and toilets, we did cheat a few times and take the car.

We have been to this site a few times and absolutely love it. Yes the owners are miserable and unhelpful and the cesspit stinks ( only down wind) but the peace and quiet and fantastic views of the river severn out weigh all of these. The pub is great and sells Stowford press Cider and does a decent meal. You basically pitch where you like and the kids can play safely to their hearts content. If you are looking for a relaxing break where you can watch the birds soar and the ducks dabble this is the place to go.

I am glad it wasn't just us that thought this campsite was the worse we have ever visited, very picturesque, but very strict on rules and regs. I feel they should warn you that the shop is never open, and they are certainly not dog friendly, and you are very limited on what you are allowed to use electricity wise, eg only kettle and tv nothing else. In the sweltering hot weather we were told catagoricaly that we were not to use fans. I am at that time of life (over50) disabled and need my fan, its the right wattage and turn everything else of to use it. You were told you had to cook with gas. I was even afraid to use my mobility scooter for fear of running the battery down. As a result I spent my entire holiday couped up in my van.
They periodically drove the landrover around and stopped and stared to make sure you were not breaking any rules. I booked this purely on the advertisment friendly (not)comfortable peaceful retreat! Fully stocked shop dog friendly, pub and meals. We were stuck in the far corner, because we had dogs, and were not allowed to walk the dogs over the field in case they urinated, how were we supposed to get to the pub? I gave up and just stayed inside in case I broke any rules, some holiday uh.
However you have to speak as you find, and to us strangely the old guy was quite nice to us.

The weather made a great bonus. A little bit out in the sticks if you don't want to get away from it all. Facilities were good, although there was a water shortage Sunday morning, but the camp was pretty well packed by this time. Toilet block was very clean and so was the pot washing area. No rubbish to be seen. Pub next door was almost drunk dry due to weather and England match, food good but its worth knowing that when the camp is full there can be a considerable wait for food. Going back again this weekend. Hope the sun shines again.

We pre booked over the phone and I was spoken to in a lovely manor and was told they looked forward to our arrival. On arrival it took 40 mins to get in as the gate was locked. Then some man with a terrible attitude stumbled out of the pub, we told him we had pre booked and gave our booking names which he had no knowledge of.
I got the impression he thought we were druggi hippys as we have a vw camper van he told us to go to the far end of the site and pitch up there. This was as far away from the toilet's and showers and with two under 5yr olds this was a bit of a walk to the toilets - he was not bothered by this comment I made and said if you don't like it then don't stay here. He told us the rules of the site like we were teenagers.
Like others have said the shop is never open and has minimal stock at inflated prices. As for the toilets and showers they are dated and dirty, the showers are cold their is sharp edged tiles missing in places and the toilets are a health hazard and did not even have toilet paper.
There is not much on site except a small fishing pond a pub with a river opposite. We had booked and paid for 7 days but we only stayed here for two days as this was the worst holiday we have had camping and we have been camping 20yrs.

Pleasant site. Flat ground for pitching tent, showers and toilets exceptionally clean. Lacking shade as we had to pitch in centre of field (electric hook-ups only round outside) especially as we had the dog with us and the weather was extremely hot.
Had read the previous comments about the owners and got to admit we also adopted the nickname 'Commandant'. Appreciate the rules they have in place are there for a reason and go a long way to keeping this site a clean, quiet place to stay but felt the constant patroling to be a little OTT. Only stayed two nights so found it quite amusing, had we have stayed longer it would have got our backs up.

This has to be one of the most hostile sites I have ever visited. After literally 30 seconds of arriving, we were waved through and got stuck in what was essentially a swamp, and should not have been open to the public. Because our campervan got stuck, we were then subjected to the most awful verbal abuse from a toothless vile man that, despite our efforts to be democratic, was physically threatening and ordered us to "get the f*** off his site". Some friends of ours later arrived and were thrown off the site within hours for talking too loudly (while it was still daylight). There is a far better site at the Bridge Inn around 2 miles up the road. Despite this, I have to point out the pub next door was run by some great people and they were very empathetic to our situation.

Stayed here for 2 nights, with 2 tents and a dog. Friendly greeting upon arrival by owners (not what we were expecting going on previous reviews we'd read). They do come across as being quite abrupt but they're helpful enough and left us alone to have a really good weekend. They are very strict on the rules no noise after 11pm, no campfires etc. Shop was always closed you had to ring a doorbell and they'd come downstairs to open it up for you, which made you feel like an inconvenience when greeted with a tut.
Nice quiet site as long as not by road edge due to being a race track at night. Showers & toilets were clean & water hot all the time. The meals at the Red Lion were nice, large portions, friendly staff good value for money, not somewhere you would want to spend all night but ok for early doors or last orders unless sunny and you sit outside overlooking the river which is very popular so get their early. Ideal "relaxing by the tent weekend", not much in walking distance, but only 10 mins car drive to Tewksbury and Gloucester but limited parking.
