This was our first time at this site and overall we were very disappointed. Though the site is fairly spacious, level and relatively cheap the facilities are very run down and were not cleaned frequently enough. Sadly it's nothing like the photo on the website.

I read the reviews on this site before going and didn't quite believe the owner could be that rude, but alas - let's just say I would be surprised if anyone ever goes back to this site.

The pub next door is rather tired and drab but at least it was somewhere dry to go when it rained. The beer was OK but the food quality is very poor and not worth the wait.

The most annoying thing is that this has the potential to be a cracking little site if only the owners had any interest in the place.

The site is large with plenty of electric hook ups, so you are able to have privacy. Across the road there is a beautiful view of the river avon, with seating provided by the owners of the site, they also own the pub next door. Plenty are different beverages to enjoy.

The camping rates for tents are very reasonable.

They were a few downsides though ! The lady owner has no manners, no please or thank you when you hand over money either when booking in or in the little shop that's sells the basics, and it was closed by 1pm on a saturday.

When visiting the toilet block after dark, just follow your nose, they stink to high heaven ! Are in desperate need of redecoration and a deep clean.

You will need a torch however so you can manoeuvre around the many deep potholes that resembles something not unlike no mans land from the Somme, but is actually the main road that runs around the site.

Such a wonderful part of the country, but next time I will stay somewhere else !

The site itself is across the road form the river and not as described. The rude owner really should not be dealing with the public. The shower / toilet block appears to have had no maintenance apart from very bad painting for the last 20 years and is horrible. Mainly grass pitches and the monster owner comes round dot on eleven o'clock to kick you off on your day of departure despite it was raining and a huge field with hardly anyone on and obviously no booking arriving that day. We also did not arrive until tea time on our first night and paid for the day. Dependant on were you are on the site you can be a far way from the toilets so take a torch.

With regard to the pub. It feels like a pub right on the edge of closure. Its run down, badly decorated, poor selection of food and drink. I had the good fortune to walk past the kitchen when the door was open and saw Saturday nights meals being prepared. I say good fortune as after seeing the standard of preparation, hygiene and care I would never eat even a packet of crisps there.

Over all the camp site and pub are from the 70's and have gone down hill since. Coupled with the owner I wouldn't stay at the site or visit the pub again.

My partner and I stayed at the Riverside campsite last week and were immediately disappointed to find the campsite is not 'nestled on the banks of the River Severn' as is described on the campsite website.

The river is on the other side of a road, hidden by trees and bushes- hardly 'nestling' really.

We then found the owners to be so rude and short with us it was actually quite shocking. We politely asked if, as the site wasn't that full and our tent was only small, if we could situate ourselves nearer to the bushes on the edge, we were then, what I can only describe as being shouted at, by the woman owner saying; 'Absolutely not. No way. The outside is reserved for people wanting the electric hook ups. No chance'.

Ok, ok we both thought, a simple; 'I'm afraid that may not be possible, sorry' would have done!

As it transpired, we stayed there for two nights (we did pay for three nights, but found the atmosphere to be not that friendly so left early) and the site was never full with loads of free space around the edges we could have snuggled our 3 man tent into.

Come on guys- lighten up and treat your paying guests with more respect and give us a smile at least!

The final straw came when we were waved away from a parking space by the woman owner one morning when we were going to use the shower blocks- she wagged a finger at us and told us to 'move'!

We tried a meal in the pub they own next to the camping site, and we had to complain as we had scampi and chips, and were only given a measly 5 pieces of small scampi. The man owners reply was a curt; 'We've always sold it with that many, that's the way it is. '

On the second night we stayed, we were kept awake till past 3am with a caravan playing really loud rave music- for owners who seem to not be very forth coming, we were surprised this behaviour was tolerated. We felt sorry for the families near by the inconsiderate people with the loud music, as we could hear it from the other end of the field.

It's a shame as the campsite itself is fine- flat pitches and adequate shower and toilet blocks. The surrounding area is very pretty and rural.

Again though, they shouldn't be advertising it as sitting on the banks of a river, because it certainly is not! You can't even see the river from the field.

A very disappointing experience means we will not be recommending this site

Stayed over the bank holiday for 2 nights. The site is right on the river with some beautiful walks, and in lovely surroundings.

Camping on the bottom field allows you loads of space, but is a fair old walk to the shower block, showers could do with an update but for the price you pay you can't complain.

Food in the pub is good value for money, and has some good beers on tap.

A Morrisons super market is only a few miles away (urgent suppleys and petrol]and Tewksbury, Cheltenham and Gloucester only a short car journey away.

Overall a cracking location in a wonderful part of the world

Stayed hear 3 nights on our way back from Cornwall, the reviews made us a little wary but some of the points were unfounded. The site itself is very large and if you are at the bottom end you have a long walk to the toilets and other facilities.

Plenty of water points on the field. The owners seem unfriendly on first impressions but are not that bad the longer you stay. The toilet block does need updating but they are cleaned everyday and there is plenty of hot water.

There is a covered washing up are at the side and again hot water. Never went into the shop only open 1 hour morn and 1 hour evening. Quite a lot of rules and you cannot walk the dog on the field, its across the road by the river.

The site is ideally situated for touring the area. We ate in the pub one night, nothing fancy but well cooked, hot and reasonably priced.

The area must be susceptible to flooding as the electric points are quite high up and there are signs outside the shop and pub saying the height and when the flood was (not had one since 2007).

Whilst we were there we had a lot of rain but the field was never soggy. We would stay the agin.

Very spacious site. Was told no need to book, we could just turn up. Owners very friendly on the phone.

Didn't have much contact with the owners once there, having paid they left us to our own.

Didn't eat at the pub, but had a look at the menu. Mainly something and chips, curries etc.

The toilets weren't the best I have seen, but have seen worse.

After being told on the phone all hookup pitches had been taken we decided to wild camp. As it turned out the weather must of put a few off because there were ample available.

If you like manicured grass and regimented pitches, this isn't the place for you, but we loved the open space and freedom of being able to park were and how you like.

We had a lovely walk along the river to the next pub and back, then sat by the the river outside the red lion for a drink.

My daughter made friends with the resident ducks.

Would of been worried if she had been a toddler with the duck pond only partially fenced off.

Apart from the rain clattering on our roof it was a quiet night.

Lovely picturesque setting on the River Severn. Site was spacious and well looked after. However the toilet and shower block was not as shown on the website and the wash area was dirty. It looked as if most of the the showers were out of use as chairs were blocking the entrance. The only hand drier wasn't working and the toilets had seen better days.

The pub served a good range of beers and wine although was in need of a face lift. We ordered food (ham egg and chips) which took over 90 minutes to arrive and the chips were cold.

The owner met us at the gate and offered some good advice and was friendly.

Summing up, the location is fantastic and with a little investment on the showers and pub could be a great place to stay.

The location of this site is almost perfect, larger units need to be aware that the entrance is quite narrow, also the roads are very narrow with limited passing spots for almost 2 miles before you reach the site.

This site is cheap but you get what you pay for, the web site looks great although the pictures of the toilet block and shop are not the same as what is on site, also the menu that looks amazing is not available here, your lucky to get a 2nd class cafe type meal.

Toilets in very poor state of repair and very smelly as was the bin area which was two large skips, toilet empting was next to the veg prep area and a hole with a bin lid on top.

If you were on the far side of the site is a long walk to empty grey water and chemical toilets as these are by the entrance.

Only 3 or 4 fresh water taps which is not a lot for a site this size and no motorhome service points.

The fishing lake was very black and not appropriate for fishing, the owners/wardens were a bit on the unfriendly side and the male also smoked in the shop/reception area which gives you an idea on hygiene.

Would not return

We were met with a very unfriendly welcome, and as soon as we got there we were made to feel unwelcome as if we were in the way. We had to wait until the owner had finished collecting glasses before we could book in.

Shower and toilet block needs refurbishing, concrete on the floor breaking up. As the camp got busy the toilets were not cleaned and ran out of toilet paper. Some guests thought it would be okay to wash their foot wear in the area designated for dishes. In the ladies toilet there were cob webs and fluff on the shower pipes which looked as if it had been there a long time.

Local attractions were great like the forest of Dean which is only 20 miles out, Tewksebury town, walk along the river opposite the camp site is a nice walk.

Nice local area but campsite was not very welcoming
