SHOCKING ! The couple running this site, they are rude, unfriendly and shouldnt be in this job ! The showers were cold and dirty. The shop never opened. Constant smell from the cesspit. Bins overflowing. The "commandant" came round and told us not to use heater and to put on a jumper if we cold ! Food at pub nasty and overpriced. We went early from the site as we couldnt take it any more. Shame - it could be a wonderful site with lovely views if it was run by the right people.

We stayed here for 4 days. Our first camping expedition for a few years. We were greeted by the owners Daughter who was very friendly, she took us to our pitch and made sure we were well away from the generators. The toilet and shower block were clean and tidy with plenty of free hot water. The shop opening hours were displayed on the door and they were always open when they said they would be. The Red Lion Pub was good just for a drink but the menu was very limited but for a really good (though not cheap) meal visit The Farmers Arms in Appersley the next village. We would definitely visit this camp site again.

Having seen this site listed on the web, we decided to spend a week at this site as part of our main holiday.
When arriving at reception we were greeted by the most unfriendliest person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. This being the camp site warden. After arguing with me about where to pitch I almost did a U-turn and left but decided to stay.
We were then shown the toilet and shower block. Well what can we say. It was probably built in the late 1800s and has not been updated since. Dirty, smelly and full of cobwebs. The cess-pit was 50 feet away and very smelly.
The shop was never open all the time we were there and this must be the only camp site we have ever been to in our 6 to 7 years of camping that had massive diesel generators supplying power to the camp site running 24 hours a day.
Which is a shame because this could be a very very nice site with excellent room and setting.

July 2005 We stayed at this campsite over the weekend just gone and I have to say that the guy was really good. We phoned on the morning of travel to check that the campsite wasn't under water and he wished us a good journey. When we arrived, we explained that we would like a quiet spot and popped us next to group of lovely Dutch people who were really nice people. One night he even stayed in the middle of the field to check the noise level. As this was my only second experience of camping, I was very impressed, especailly after the previous reviews I had read.
He was also very helpful and knowledgeable. When we asked where the nearest cider farm was, he could tell us straight away. (Hartlands, Tirley Villa, Tirley - excellent and cheap). The shop on site had the times that it was open on the door and these were adhered to as far as I could tell.
I really enjoyed this campsite and yes, the cess pit was a little whiffey, and the tiolet and shower block could do with a little modernisation, but they were clean.
Very enjoyable and good site.

June 2005 Unfortunately, this reasonably pleasant site is ruined by the unwelcoming staff. When we arrived in our VW camper the site was half empty. We wanted to put up a small pup tent for the dogs to sleep in, and expected to pay the usual couple of quid extra. (There was just the 2 of us and no awning) However I was reliably informed by the manager that 'there is no such thing as a pup tent'and that I would have to pay for 2 pitches!! This site looks appealing from the pictures, and it is fairly pleasant. The pub is OK, but not as nice as it looks from the outside. However don't expect to be welcomed with open arms, you may just get a smile if you are very lucky!

May 2005 Just returned from a few days here, not a bad site but the people running it were obviously not the owners and could do with a course in customer care. Site is level and well cared for, as stated elsewhere the shop is never open altough when it was unlocked for us to check in it seemed to be fairly well stocked although I would guess that they sell next to nothing as it is always shut! I dread to think what the sell by date o the stock is!
One bad point is that we were woken up every night by night fishermen returning to their cars on the Pub car park. They used to arrive arround 9:30 - 10:00 and leave Between 1:00 - 3:00. Apparently they were fishing for elvers maybe we just were there at the wrong time of the fishing season. Would go back but pitch well away from the road. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, enough to keep you happy for a week or so.

May 2005 This site is a mixture of good and bad. The recent comments about the unfriendly greeting and the shop being closed most of the time are spot on. We found the chap running the site to be an ignorant curmudgeon who seemed to regard campers as an inconvenience at best (they have several permanent caravans).
There is a smell of sewage near the toilet block, but this wasn't overpowering in May. The toilets and showers were clean but there was a definite cockroach problem in the showers which may put you off the pub on site only yards away. We ate there before noticing the roaches and found the food to be over-priced and resoundingly average if not actually unpleasant. If you've got a car or don't mind a hike of a mile or so make the journey to the Farmers Arms on the way to Tewksbury. Quite splendid food, and a great pint of Wadworth 6X.
Back at the site there are some reasons to put up with the personnel, there is an abundance of birdlife, kestrels, buzzards, swifts and swallows are to be spotted, and the park has resident ducks, swans and quails that are happy to be fed. The pitches are flat, and there is a very big overflow field which is well-maintained.
For me though, the hostility from the staff was enough to keep me from returning. Shame, because this could be a brilliant place.

May 2005 The phone call booking was vague, man didn't seem to know what he was talking about. We informed the "site managers" we would be arriving about 8:30, to be told not a problem. Upon arrival the gentleman was again vague, and said he didn't remember phone call from the previous day. We filled in a small piece of paper with our details, and paid up front for our two nights stay. Staff very miserable, as if we were an inconvenience. On day of leaving we were asked at 11:30am when we were "thinking of getting off the site?" and we were then told that we should have been gone for 11 (the site was near enough empty anyway). We were not told anything about this on arrival and had to cancel our plans for the day and leave for home. We were very upset about this and when we asked for a complaints procedure they didn't want to know and they proceeded to argue that we arrived "out of hours" (8.30pm friday ... out of hours?!) and they didn't have time to explain the rules as we disturbed them getting ready to go out!!
On plus side pub very friendly with a pleasent setting.

April 2005 This campsite as it suggests is at the back of the Red Lion Inn, pitches are very flat. There are some hardstanding and also an open field with hook-ups which leads down to the river. The facilities are clean and heated. There is a little shop and gas available.
The campsite greeter could do with being a bit more cheerfull but the pub staff are friendly. You may share your pitch with a couple of ducks especially if you offer bread!!
The pub is oposite the River Severn and is in a fantastic setting. The pub garden is on the banks of the river with views up and down the river it is beautiful. We sat outside with a pint and watched the ducks & swans and just a little way up the bank a couple of rabbits playing. Bliss!
Access to this site is better from the Ledbury rd (B4213) and not the 2nd turning off the A38 through Norton - the campsites website gives both routes. Through Norton is narrow and winding with a steep hill (down as you approach site)but the other access is flatter and not so winding!
Ideal for those who wish to have a beer or two without the commercialness of a big site.

July 2004 We visited with family, 4 adults and 3 children aged 2,5 and 10. Lovely setting and peaceful site. I must agree with comments about the smell near the toilet block and shower facilities are a little old. Having said that they are kept very clean. Lovely walk along the river and nice food from the pub. One word of warning though, be careful if eating on the riverbank as when our food was ready someone else claimed it! We then waited for 1/2 hour (having had the rest of the families meals delivered and eaten) before we realised what had happened. The pub got us our food but was over and hour later, try explaining that to a hungry 2 year old! We would return to this site.
