I think we picked the worst week weather wise of the whole summer - July 2005. It rained every day and when it wasn't raining it was about to! We had 1 or 2 days of sunshine in the 9 days (with rain at some point during the day). However, it was not a problem to us as we were there for the fossilling and actually the rain probably made the finds even better.
The site is just off the famous Charmouth beach. There is a Fossil Museum on the harbour where you can buy fossils and fossilling kits and get some good advice. The site itself was lovely, I liked the idea of the Toilet Keys as you can sometimes get kids messing around in the blocks. The staff were very helpful and the Launderette proved useful due to the wet weather. We found lots to do visiting surrounding towns and plenty more in the way of walks. I would recomend this site to anyone who is an amateur fossil hunter and it is particularly good for the kids with plenty of space for games and running around.

We were reminded just what a 1st class site this is. Haven't been here for 2 years- it's better than ever, and good value. This site is very well run, the staff are welcoming and helpful and the shop has regular hours and sells a good range of goods. Very lucky to get a pitch- did not book first. Touring site is level and all pitches have electric. It is a level stroll down to the sea front along the river.
There is no Club House or Entertainment laid on but we have never been short of things to do when we have been here. Dogs are welcome and there is a dog walking field, Tennis and bowling and a basketball hoop in the field next to the touring field.
Toilet block has been upgraded, warm, well lit, plenty of hot water (day and night) In the ladies there are 3 showers, 2 wash cubicles and 5 toilets. just outside in a covered are are 2 free hairdryers. There is a sheltered washing up area, a vegetable prep area and chemical toilet point. So far this is our favourite site.

We have been to seadown for several years now (including our honeymoon!) and agree with all previous reviews. Seadown and the Charmouth area are great places to stay. If you like a cream tea try the B&B on the other side of the river from the site, just brilliant ! One word of warning for campers - when we went last June we had rather a lot of rain for 3 days, which in itself was not a problem but we were pitched down by the tennis courts and the whole camp seems to drain into this area. A tendency to get very wet feet ! Apart from this we would recommend that you all try this lovely site.

Can't agree more with previous reviews. Absolutely lovely spot. Beach & a couple of pubs 5 mins walk away. Very clean, very friendly. Had no problems with our large tent fitting on a standard plot (Wynnster Satellite 12).
Took two young children (2 and 4) who loved it. The river is very close by, but the pitches are protected by a steep grassy bank, so we had no problems with it. Beach is shingle except at low tides, but fossil hunting more than made up for it. Will be going back next summer.

We arrived back today after spending 5 days at Seadown, and have nothing but praise for the site and the staff. On arrival the Staff were polite and very helpful, there is a £5 returnable deposit for 2 keys to the shower block. The showers are spotlessly clean all the time, my only complaint would be the number of showers 3 for the men and 2 for the ladies. The beach is only about 200 yards away, with a small cafe on. the site like the shower block is spotlessly clean. Every pitch has electric The play area for children has table tennis, badminton, and tenpin bowling, plus a large area for playing ball games. There is a 5 foot high bank which has warnings on it for children, this runs at the back of some of the pitches. It is only about 3 miles to Lyme Regis, 6 miles to Bridport and West Bay. Les

We have just returned from Seadown, and what a lovely campsite it is. The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean as is the whole campsite. It is also very quiet. The recreation areas for the kids is great with tennis nets, table tennis bowling area and plenty of room for football. The only downside is the stream at the side of the recreation area which unnerved me at first but the kids just ignored it after a few warnings.
The beach is just a short distance away and ideal for keeping the kids busy looking for fossils.
I would definitely go back again because it is such a lovely place.

September 2004 Absolutely fabulous place, we had a lovely week here despite miserable weather. The staff are friendly, pleasant and very helpful, the camp shop is stocked with a good variety of basic needs and the prices are very reasonable. The site itself is impeccable as are the toilets...key entry only. A credit to the people who clean them daily. The walk to the beach is beautiful alongside the babbling river, we took our dog, plenty of walks in this area. We were a bit snookered as our dog will not cross bridges and to get to one side of the beach for a walk over the hill you have to cross a small footbridge. Never mind we still found lots to do, toilets on the beach by the cafe at the front were also spotless. We loved this site and would go back time and time again.

August 2004 Have been going to seadown now for two seasons, beautiful site 150 yards from the beach, tried to get a seasonal pitch without success.... very popular place, special reductions for over 50's. No clubhouse or bar but two very nice pubs in village serving great food and local beers, few shops catering for almost everything. Family run site, very friendly staff, well stocked shop, wanted to stay here with the tourer every week but couldn't so, bought a static here, says it all really ! give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.

August 2004 A lovely, quiet well-kept site, ideal for families and perfect location if you enjoy spending time on the beach. Plenty of hot water for showers and washing up and a lovely large area for playing ball games. The site shop was small, but very well stocked with the essentials. A short safe walk to the beach which was full of fossils. A visit to nearby Lyme Regis is a must.We were lucky enough to meet Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall while we were there who was filming a new series of 'River Cottage' for Channel 4. The Monday market across the main road from the site was rather disappointing, but the nearby camping shop was useful for anything forgotten!! We will definitely be returning next year.

august 2004 Absolutely love this site. Flat pitches, very clean toilets which are never closed even when being cleaned. Loads of freedom for the kids, with plenty to do. You don't really need to leave the site.
The only problem we have had is that both times we have been to the site, we have ended up leaving early as when it is windy you really know about it.
