Stayed for 5 nights over the May B/H. The Site was full but quiet. As you enter the Site you past the Reception / Shop, which we found adequate for our stay. Otherwise the nearest large supermarket is approx 8miles away - unless you can find one closer. You drive past several lines of Statics before coming to the pitches, all of which have EHU. The pitches are in parallel rows with a tarmac drive running down the middle. Tents are mixed in with caravans. Our pitch was very flat and large enough to park the car next to the tent. We didn't have a huge amount of room in front between the tent and the road. Some of the pitches appear smaller.
The shower block was always clean but you have to remember to take the key with you (£5 returnable deposit on arrival for 2 keys). There are sinks for washing dishes, a laundry room, chemical waste room, all in the same block, all very clean and tidy. Ours boys enjoyed the play field - plenty of room to kick a ball, a basketball net, nets for tennis and badminton and an outdoors table tennis table. There's a stream that runs along the bottom of the Site which if you follow leads you to the beach - a pleasant 5min stroll. The Boys again enjoyed hunting for fossils and skimming stones and if you forgot something, it wasn't a trek back to the tent. All in all it was a pleasant, quiet, neat & tidy Site. The only thing we missed was that feeling of being out in the open. We don't usually have EHU to prevent that hemmed in feeling pitched between caravans.
We enjoyed our stay - the weather was glorious which always makes a difference and should we ever find ourselves in that area again, we wouldn't bother looking at any other site.

Stayed here over the Easter weekend and actually extended our stay as we didn't want to leave. The fabulous weather also played a part in this!
We were supposed to leave on the Tuesday morning but paid for a further night meaning we could leave when we wanted. Unfortunately we left it a bit late to return the keys for the washblock and had to disturb the warden around 5.30pm as Reception and the shop closed at 5pm (sorry).
Quiet and peaceful park and only a 10 minute level stroll alongside the river Char down to the beach. Hubby had no problems carting all his fishing gear down to the seafront to go fishing once or twice while we were there. There is a beach cafe, fossil shop and the Heritage Centre which is free (with donations welcome). There are also public toilets at the back of the cafe. Charmouth village itself is only a 10-15 minute walk and has 2 pubs, a chippy / pizzaria, convenience store open til 9pm, cafe, and a gift/hardware store.
The washblock was kept spotlessly clean (helped no doubt by the fact you paid a £5 deposit for a key to the washblock).
Lyme Regis is only about 3 miles away and West Bay is also a pleasant drive (about 20 mins).
I must admit I had some reservations once we'd booked as this site is so reasonably priced, especially during Bank Holidays at only £12 per night for 2 people inc EHU - we needn't have worried and will definitely put this on our list for a return visit!

This campsite is a little gem. We would highly recommend it. Very friendly and helpful staff in reception on arrival. You have to pay a £5 deposit for the toilet/shower block key so go prepared! You obviously get it back when you return the key on departure. We had one of the few hardstanding pitches and although it was quite small, it was perfect for a motorhome. We were the furthest pitches from the shower block but it never bothered us, even after gallons on cider on the Saturday night! The block was kept spotlessly clean by hardworking staff. In the ladies there were 3 showers (one very large corner one, one a bit smaller with separate drying area and a very small one all with lovely hot water and as much as you wanted/needed), 2 privacy cubicles with sinks, 4 or 5 other sinks and 6 or 7 toilets. Even though the site was full over Easter the facilities coped very well. There is also a laundry and information room and a fantastic undercover (with very posh patio doors!) washing up area with 5 sinks. The dog walking area is brilliant along the river bank and there's a large playground area too. Easy walk to the beach and Heritage Centre which houses a cafe and small clothes shop amongst other things. The walk into Charmouth village is also easy with The George being the nearest pub to the site. Very doggie friendly (allowed inside and out) with large beer garden. Choice of local real ales but not enough cider choice for me! Good choice menu, not overpriced, probably all microwave cooked but good size portions and quick service. There's a bus stop on the high street that runs fairly regularly. We used it twice over the Easter weekend. Once to Bridport - £3 per adult return and 40p for the dog (all day ticket!) and then back from Lyme Regis (£1.50 per adult single and 40p for the dog again!). We walked into Lyme Regis via the temporary coastal path and it wasn't particularly hard going (hardest part is the hill out of Charmouth!). The on-site shop sells daily papers, various foodstuffs and camping supplies. We didn't use it as there was a 'local store' in the village open long hours (the freshly baked bread was heaven!). There is also a Newsagents in the village along with a few cafes/restaurants, a butchers and a chippy. This was our second visit to Seadown (first was in 2006!)and it was even better than we remembered it. We will definitely return!

Just returned from a lovely, peaceful 9 night stay. Facilities all very good - shop open daily and toilet and showers spotlessly clean with unregulated amounts of hot water. Mop and bucket left for you to use when you have finished showering although I noted that not everyone was considerate enough to use. Very quiet site at this time of the year although I would imagine it is not the same in high season. Also not sure if the number of showers (3 in the ladies) would be sufficient. Shops in Lyme Regis all open although the coast path from Charmouth is closed due to landslip. Would definitely stay again.

Having read the previous reviews for this site, we decided to book a weeks stay here.
We agree with some of the comments stated earlier regarding the location of the site, it can be a little off-putting driving along a residential street to the site, but once on the site its brilliant.
We had a wonderful weeks stay and would have liked to extend for another week but they were too busy.
A short stroll to the beach, village, car boot / market and a very useful caravan / camping shop.
Facilities were kept spotlessly clean.
We had noticed several people emptying their wastemasters on the edges of pitches, though we emptied ours in the grids near the taps.
All in all, would recommend the site and may visit again in the future

We have just visited this site and compared to some others we have been on for touring caravans my wife and myself think it is very overrated, yes the toilets and the showers are good but the pitches are far to small for some caravans and we got the impression the staff are not to concerned where you pitch as long as they get your money.
They dont point either that this site is virtually in the middle of a council estate, and that charmouth is very hilly not suitable for the infirm [ wife is disabled ].
The nearest supermarkets are at bridport 7 miles and lyme regis 3 miles. We tried the local fish&chip shop fish /chips/peas for 2 almost £10 and are appalling.
They say the beach is close yes it is if you have a car,but not a site for the infirm or very disabled [i.E wheelchair ]

I thought this site was amazing with the beach being right next door as such! We spent three nights here and the weather was awesome, so we spent many an hour on the beach catching the rays and fossil hunting! There are also two great cafes on the beach, we tried both and both were good! On-site, there is a well stocked shop which is open all day for your goodies and the staff were really friendly. You need £5 deposit at check-in for a toilet block key, which you obviously get back if you hand both keys in! As for the toilet facilities, they were spotless & welcoming. In Charmouth there are a few other shops, pubs and an amazing chippy! A gem of a site which we really enjoyed.

Good site. Initially not quite we were expecting lots of statics etc but in fact it was great.
I must say we were a little peeved at having booked for 2 weeks, and booked very early, to find ourselves on 1 of 2 sloping pitches with no grass that we could use whatsoever! then trying to pitch on a sloping mud bath in torrential rain and gale force winds made life very difficlut.
Although the site is good, little thought seems to be given to pitch planning, far grassier pitches were given to tents only staying one 2 nights, when ours needs to recover not 14 days of us living on it!
Only other negative. Keys for the toilets. Not sure of the need for this as it wasn't a site for kids hanging round the toilets (other sites could really use it) but my god you have to make sure you have your key on you in the night or its a very disheartening walk!
Positives
Great shop, fresh morning pastries a real plus! Next to sea. Quiet even though child friendly. Spacious for kids Pitches were quite spacious although no choice of pitch Toilets immaculate even over August bank holiday Great location!
Overall would visit again if in the area!

When we arrived at the site we were sent round to our pitch, upon arriving we found that tents to both sides of us had pitched over the boundary markers which left us very little room, also whoever had been there before us decided that emptying your waste water onto the grass is a good idea because the pitch stank We went back to reception and were told we could try another pitch, which we did and then got set up, The next morning was lashing down with rain so off out for the day to Lyme Regis On returning to our pitch we found about 2" of water inside the awning! the way the site is laid out means there is no where for water to drain away! Thankfully that was the only wet day and the rest of the week was fantastic hot sunshine, but the pitch never really dried out even after a week The toilet facilities are very good and the shop is good for a site shop (fresh bread & croissants every day!) The nearest pub is The George (about 0.5 miles)which was okay, the food was average and playground was good for children The beach is accessible from the site and is great for fossil hunting, swimming or beach fishing, there is a cafe either side of the river so refreshments are easily obtainable Overall the site is an average campsite with acceptable facilities, although if it wasn't between a pub and a beach i'`m not so sure there would be as many good reviews!

May 2007 Stayed over the May Bank weekend, Fri-Mon.
Our requirements were a static van (for the oldies) and 3 tent pitches, with very close access to the beach, on a site with good toilets (for the "Boss", of course).
Booking at the end of March, the Parkdeans place at WestBay (which wasn't necessarily our 1st choice anyway) didn't have any statics available for this period. And we read that Newlands was hilly and further away from the beach.
After a great deal of reviewing of sites in the area we chose Seadown as the best option. The lady on the telephone reception was friendly, even though it was the end of the day, and the booking went through without a hitch. Though she did comment that our 7x5m Gelert Satellite 6 was a "bit big". But things seemed to bode well, and we kept our fingers crossed.
This was actually going to be the first trip out with the "Boss". Been out before with eldest two when they were 4 and 2, but 2 years later now there was also a new addition. And the "Boss".
When we arrived the reception was friendly and we found that we were being charged £24 for our big tent (the normal charge being £12). But it was fair enough, though as we were put in the bottom tenting field, right next to the embankment, which had plenty of space, and I suspect if I hadn't mentioned the size of the tent, no one would have bothered anyway. All pitches have EHU, and tap and drain shared between about 8 pitches. One thing to note is the bottom tent site looks like it would act as a sink for the site's water in heavy rain, so beware! Fortuantely, we had fairly dry weather (only drizzled the last day). But looking at some of the pitches others had got, some right in the midst of caravans, on gravel, I would recommend the lovely shaded and sheltered bottom field if you can get it. It does seem to be reserved for the larger tents though.
The toilets and washing facilities were amazingly clean. The cleanest I've ever seen actually. There was an emphasis on campers keeping the facilities clean and they even provided a mop and bucket with disinfectant to mop up the the toilet or shower block if you made a mess. What a good idea ! Also a key was provided to access the blocks, so random children visits and usual messing about didn't occur.
The washing up area lights stay on until about midnight, so beware if you're thining of a quick trip there to wash up those midnight beer glasses.
The site shop was a bit pricey, but the village shops were only a 5 minute walk away.
The field next to the beach was pefect for flying kites or riding bikes. And at the end of the field is Charmouth and it's beaches! Fanstastic for the kids. If you forget something on the beach, you can actually run back and get it! Part of the river Char has been dammed up to form a small paddling pool which is big enough for rowing canoes and things. Sure beats pool.
All in all, a great time was had by everyone, including the Boss, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone else.
