We were booked in for three nights but stayed on for four. The site is perfectly placed for the beach being just a five minute walk away across the site. We were very fortunate with the weather, and actually had a touch of sunburn!
As per the previous comment we were pitched on hard standing but were rather close to the next unit. This, however was the only downside.
The toilet block was clean and warm and there was lots of local information available in the laundry area.
Very reasonably priced for a nice site.

We have been to this site twice before, the main reason being that it is a short walk to the beach where you can go fossil hunting, there is also a heritage centre, a cafe, the Rock Follies shop where you can buy all sorts of quirky clothes, shoes and rock'n'roll cd's many of which are old Elvis ones. Don't forget to pat the owners lovely labrador.
The sites facilities are very good, excellent toilet block, shop. 5 minute walk to Charmouth shops with a baker, butcher post office and newsagent. Also bus stops to Lyme regis and Axminster one way and Weymouth on the jurassic coast road the other.
Only downside was we were pitched on hardstanding and only a few feet away from the motorhomes either side of us. If we had wanted to roll out our awning it would have almost touched the next van. The reason given for this was in late season the grass pitches are resown making them unusable so while there were many vacant pitches these were not available hence the crowding together.

Warm welcome on arrival. Good first impression. On entry to touring area, very clean with well kept grass pitches. All facilities were absolutely spotless. Pitches varied slightly in size depending on where you were, only downside to the pitches was the ground was very stony/rocky, would advise bringing hard ground tent pegs as we bent 4 or 5 pitching up. Overall excellent site and excellent value for money. ( £21 per night high season ) we would definitely visit again.

2nd year there and we are looking at booking again for next year already.
This is a really great site, the amenity block is spotless. Great private walk to the beach, great well stocked shop and very friendly staff.
The village of Charmouth is a lovely place with 2 pubs that cater for all.
This a a site that people just seem to back to again and again, they have a chip van that visits twice a week and a visit from the Jurassic caterer - sat sun for morning breakfasts then during the week for hog roasts and jacket potatoes.
Missing both Seadown and Charmouth and we have just come back.
Best regards,
Tony.

As with most of the reviews I found this site to be excellent.
The showers & toilets were spotless. The campsite is very well maintained & the grass is well manicured.
I was lucky to get plot 28 which is a corner position in the lower field. This was a double sized plot & had plenty of room for a 4 man tent, extension & car. Some of the other plots were not as spacious & some of them struggled to get both the tent & car within the confines of the boundaries. That to me is the only problem with this excellent campsite.

Can't fault this Immaculate site!
Well stocked on site shop.
Well maintained large level grass pitches.
Facilities were excellent with constant hot water, and proper showers (not push on/off type).
Short stroll through sites private grounds along the River Char to local beach and Jurassic Heritage centre.
A butchers, bakers, small supermarket, PO and a couple of pubs in Charmouth village.
Fish and chip van visits outside the reception twice a week.
Five minute walk to bus stops for Lyme Regis, Bridport or further afield if required.
Most important for us it is dog friendly.

Wow what an excellent site. Been trying sites along South coast for a couple of years now and what we look for is close to the beach (for the dogs and therefore need dog friendly beach)) close to town/village with pubs (dog friendly of course) so we can walk out to eat/drink and great on site facilities with well kept flat pitches. This site ticks all the boxes and not badly priced either. Best one we been to and would definitely return. It shows how good it was when I was moaning about only one hook for towels/clothes in the showers. I need to get a life.

We have just returned from a weekend on this site and all-in-all only have praise for the site. It was spotless - very neat and tidy - as were the shower/toilet blocks (blue for boys, pink for girls!) It was a bit of a pain having to remember the key each time when you wanted to use the loo, but a good idea as it certainly means the blocks were always clean - very warm too which was ideal as this weekend wasn't the warmest!
The touring part is separate from the static vans. Ideal for dog owners - lots of space to exercise the dogs - and easy access to the beach (fabulous fossil hunting!). My only criticism would be that the static vans are very very close to each other - but as we were in the touring part, we were more than happy.
I didn't use the shop so I can't give any feedback on that but the fish and chip van was there when we arrived on Friday night and they smelled gorgeous!
The washing up facilities were also spotless (and warm) as were the areas for vegetable preparation etc etc.
It was peaceful and quiet - I appreciate it's early in the season - the site is probably most suited to people who appreciate the peace and quiet rather than the 'entertainment' of a 'clubhouse site'. There were some young children on scooters but there is no 'play park'. In addition, there is a river which runs along one side of the touring area, so not ideal to let young children roam free.
I had a look around another campsite very close to this one - and this one beats the other one hands down (and cheaper pitch fees too!)
I would certainly recommend this site to anyone who appreciates peace and quiet and loves walking (with or without dogs!) - excellent cliff walking routes.

Showers clean but dated and only three cubicles, toilets very clean. Shop fairly well stocked for the time of year and the staff were very helpful with directions to shops. Pitches rather close together and you could end up within touching distance of a motorhome. Some of the grass pitches had a double slope, making it impossible to use the jockey wheel for levelling.
Despite notices there were several piles of dog excrement along the field leading to the beach, beware!
A superb location, good facilities, children on bikes may be a problem as the few we saw had no road sense.

We stayed for a second time in mid October, weather was glorious and hardstanding pitch was good. My cousin and his wife rented a motorhome for the first time and generally we all had a good 4 night stay. Will definitely go back again but must comment that the staff seemed a little less than friendly upon arrival, but we didn't let that spoil our stay. Perhaps it was because it was near the end of their season!
